Bright Mexican Inspired DIY Lawn Wedding

Liz and Ade decided to have a wedding that totally reflected what they wanted, getting rid of ALL the traditions they didn’t find important – and we have ALL the love for their beautiful day! They transformed their dry hire venue into a bright and relaxed fiesta, held outdoors in some gorgeous (and unusual!) June sunshine.

“I’d always wanted to get married outside, but it’s not as easy as you’d think in England!” Liz warns. Despite this, once they found their dream outdoors venue – Huntsmill Farm in Buckingham – everything fell into place. “We chose to have a handfasting ceremony in the gorgeous grounds of Huntsmill Farm, having legally married at a pretty registry office one month previous. Martin and Rhiannon from Perfect Handfastings were amazing and lead such a meaningful ceremony – everyone commented on how beautiful it was! No one had been to a handfasting before and all enjoyed something a little different.” During the ceremony, they handed out cake and mead to everyone. They also chose to have an unplugged ceremony: “It means so much to me that you can see everyone enjoying the ceremony rather than looking through their phones.”

Tuscan Pool Party Wedding With a Frida Kahlo Bride & All the Guests in White

Round here, we all know that you don’t have to wear white to your wedding – Rock n Roll Bride couples adorn themselves in all colours of the rainbow! Here’s a couple that did just that by wearing outfits in warm tones of blue, but the twist was that they asked their guests to be the ones wearing white! It’s a stylish move (well, they are fashion designers), and everyone looked so bright and glamorous.

Silvia and Paolo married in the countryside of Tuscany in July. The emotional ceremony happened in the small medieval borgo Pozzo della Chiana, not far from Arezzo. The bride said, “It was very intense. We were improvising our vows, so we made everyone cry!”

Their wedding outfits were a last-minute surprise, not only for the guests, but also the bride and groom decided to keep it a secret how they would dress, even from each other. Silvia said, “Just think that even until the last moment me and Paolo also didn’t know what colour the other one would be wearing.” It turned out that they complemented each other perfectly, which didn’t surprise any of their friends or family. Photographer Magdelena of Fotomagoria said, “We all saw it as proof of how perfectly they know each other and feel the same vibes. The stunning bride was a contemporary mixture of Frida Kahlo and Cinderella in her blue gown. The small flower girls, or rice girls as they call them here because we throw the rice at the newlyweds as they exit the church, also wore blue. It was all just stunning, full of tears and full of children who were playing and running around freely.”

An Extreme DIY Colour-Fest Wedding

Rebecca and Will wanted to suffuse their whole wedding day with rich colours to create a feast for the senses! The three main colours they chose were rich orange, ultramarine blue and a bright claret. They decided on a church wedding ceremony and their reception has held at Will’s childhood home.

“We know everyone says this, but we wanted our wedding style to reflect us,” began Rebecca. “I think we both knew it was always going to be quite theatrical and sumptuous as we both perform in concert and opera. Food, colour and music were our theme! So long as all three elements were vibrant and the best quality we could manage, we knew we’d be happy.”

As Rebecca wore a blue wedding dress, her ‘something blue’ was herself! “I was never a fan of white and as a singer, I wanted any wedding dress to be able to be used for recitals after the wedding. We found the silk, which is shot with two shades of blue, in India. I then found a local tailor to make it up in a 1950s pattern that I’d found on eBay. My dress actually ripped 10 minutes before I was due at church! Luckily we had a needle and thread and the tear was minor, but at the time it felt like the world was going to implode. I also felt so awful leaving Will hanging at the altar…Even though it was only for 15 minutes!”

Vintage Hawaiian Weekend Extravaganza with a Custom Made Blue Wedding Dress!

Marie and Nigel’s Oxford wedding had a retro, tropical theme. The bride, a costume designer, even made her incredible wedding dress herself. They were married in June 2016. “I’m a massive vintage fan so always knew that would be part of my day”, said Marie. “We decided to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon and the two themes just worked perfectly together.”

The day was held at Springfield Lake, Oxford. “Most of the weddings we’d been to up until that point had been at a regular ‘wedding venue’, and although we considered these options it just wasn’t for us. We wanted total control and flexibility over what we were doing, and wanted to pick and choose what traditions to follow. Our venue wasn’t registered to do legal ceremonies, but I’ve always wanted to get married in Vegas so we decided to legally marry there as part of our honeymoon (which is totally epic by the way!) but to do a full unofficial ceremony at our wedding venue.”

Budget-Friendly Pub Wedding with the Bride in Blue

Budget-Friendly Pub Wedding with the Bride in Blue (22)

Steph and Ted may have spent less than £6000 on their Newcastle wedding, but they had a fantastically fun day. Their main goal was for everyone to have a great time without spending a huge amount of money.

“My brother Rikki and his wife Alix inspired us”, Steph began. “They had an incredible wedding in London a few years ago. Their day showed us that you can have the most fun without spending tens of thousands. Ted and I didn’t want to look a certain way or try to be anything other than just us having fun like we have done for the past eight years. So we kind of used our memories of places, parties and festivals as inspiration too.”

The bride’s beautiful blue, two-piece dress was made by The Bespoke Bridal Boutique in Kettering. “My two-piece blue wedding gown was really unique. Laura at Bespoke Bridal Boutique designed and made me a dress that fit my style, personality and budget perfectly. Having in independent designer make my perfect dress actually saved us money too. I tried on ‘normal’ wedding dresses and the ones that I thought were only alright were priced in excess of £2000! Wedding dress shopping was hell for me everything looked the same. All I could see was silk, nets and white and I never wear white so it was hard to like anything. I met with Laura to discuss options she literally knew what I wanted before I did. She is an alternative wedding dress hero and blew me away at every point during our journey. On our wedding day Laura sent me a drawn image of my dress framed and signed and it brought me to tears it was a really nice touch.”

Barbora and Daniel were married at Trmalova Vila in Prague. Their wedding was inspired by the venue itself and the bride’s love of the colour blue! Her outfit consisted of a blue dress, blue fishnets and even blue streaks in her hair.
