A Runaway Bride Styled Shoot

Kat

May 2, 2012

London wedding photographer Ann Charlotte set up this morning's editorial shoot in order to showcase an idea she'd had running through her head for a while. "I love fairytales and this fictional fairytale wedding/fashion shoot was inspired by Alice in Wonderland and the idea of a runaway bride. I wanted to shoot a misunderstood bride, running away from her wedding in tears. After some soul searching she eventually came back home to a waiting husband-to-be and a reconciliation."

A Neo-Victorian, Steampunk Wedding: Jasmine & George

Kat

January 24, 2012

"We are both crafty, artistic and creative," the pink haired bride told me. "We wanted a mix of romantic gothic, neo-Victorian, vintage and steampunk for our wedding. We really wanted to make it our own and original with still trying to keep a little tradition for our families. We decided we just wanted hints of each. That's why we decided to DIY as much as we could." After an 11 year relationship, Jasmine & George were married in The Greenhouse at The Foundry, NY by groom's cousin, John Russo. "We got our wedding rings from Gemvara," Jasmine continued. "My ring has black and white diamonds and his had black diamonds added to it. The inscription says 'True Love Waits' after a Radiohead song because we waited 11 years before we got married."

An Alice in Wonderland Wedding: Marisa & Noah

Kat

October 24, 2011

The love for Alice in Wonderland themed weddings has been around for a while so I don't often share that many of them...however an Alice theme done really well is something I just can't resist. Marisa & Noah's wedding falls into this category like a glove. The couple were married at Mendocino Coast Overlook, with a reception at Spring Ranch, Mendocino CA. The bride, dressed as Alice, wore a Betsey Johnson dress and shoes by Manolo Blahnik and the grrom rocked out in a Mat Hatter get up including a hat by Scala Hats.

A Bride in Black: Bethany & Doug

Kat

October 18, 2011

Bethany & Doug were married at Houston Station, Nashville. The bride wore a black Betsey Johnson dress. "My dress was a big deal," she began. "I had originally purchased a vintage inspired white dress and the bridesmaids were going to wear black but I kept thinking about a photo I had seen of a model bride in black that our photographer had used as an ad for her studio. I really wanted to wear black but I was having a hard time finding one that didn't look goth, since that's not my style at all."

Jess & Brian’s Backyard Holga Wedding

Kat

March 29, 2011

I spied Jess & Brian's wedding, shot almost entirely on Holga, on one of my regular scouts around Flickr. I was not only blown away but the stunning photography by Laura Burlton (who doesn't love a bit of Holga magic?) but the actual wedding itself, and all the love and attention to detail that the couple put into it made it super duper Rock n Roll worthy. "I didn’t want the standard cheesy wedding photographs," Jess explained when I asked about her decision to have her wedding shot on a toy camera. "I am a photographer myself and I have a love affair with my Holga. I went searching for a photographer who shared the same love, but also did weddings. No easy task! I found Laura Burlton though and she’s won quite a few awards with her Holga work. And joy, she also does weddings! My parents and I are both happy now and I love the way the Holga shots perfectly portray the feeling of the day."

Charly & Kelly’s Pink, Red & Valentine’s Backyard Wedding

Kat

February 9, 2011

I've got another couple that you might recognise adoring these pages this afternoon. Do you remember this incredibly gorgeous vintage, floral and tattooed bridal shoot? Well the wedding to go along with the stunning shoot is just as visually gorgeous. Charly & Kelly has a beautiful back garden wedding in June at the bride's parent's home. The couple were married at 7pm by Lisa Torti, a mutual friend who had introduced them. They filled the garden with twinkly lights, giant pink bows and candles. The bride started collecting candy, cupcake and valentine themed items early on in the planning to use as decorations. The awesome spider candle holders used as centrepieces were purchased during Halloween, to which she added pink and red bows. The invitations were made by the groom’s aunt and included a vintage valentine that was used as the reply card.

Sarah & Jason’s Perfect-for-Them Wedding

Kat

January 26, 2011

One of the (many) things I love about Rock n Roll Brides is how different you all are. You are diverse and fabulous in you own unique ways and that makes me so happy! I love the way I see you all bring who you are to the table, to create the perfect wedding for YOU. It's great to get inspiration from wedding blogs like this one, but at the end of the day it's you + your fiancé who should create YOUR perfect wedding. Sarah & Jason did just that.

A Locally Sourced Pool Party Wedding

Kat

September 7, 2010

Carmen & Gary had a laid back pool party wedding at Commons Ford Ranch, Austin. The couple actually had their first dance in the pool too! "The reception was supposed to be a dance party on the patio, with possible swimming as an afterthought, as there is a really nice pool at the ranch," the bride told me. "However as soon as dinner ended, guests were taking over the pool. We decided to move the DJ over to the pool deck since that was where the party was happening, and it became a full-blown pool party. We even had our first dance in the pool, after the official marital cannonball."

London Punks vs Americana Kitsch

Kat

August 6, 2010

Kate & Mike's London punk wedding took place a few weeks before the couple moved to LA (Jealous!) so it had a distinctly punk rock vs Americana theme. The couple booked Celine Chaplin to take some portraits and to document their fun-filled reception. Kate told me all about their day - including a very funny story about Mike's wedding day hair cut! "Since we were moving to Los Angeles a couple of weeks after the wedding, Mike & I were totally hectic so we really needed some help with the wedding. My sister and my Mum were amazing at putting the wedding together. My Dad even chipped in and sorted the meal out! i'm a total control freak but on this occasion, I'm glad i let someone else take over because they did such an awesome job."

Rules are Made to be Broken

Kat

July 27, 2010

As many of you will already know, I like to pride myself and my blog on individuality and posting some of the best, exclusive and new weddings out there. However rules are made to be broken right?! I actually saw and loved Alicia & Jack's wedding a while back on another wedding blog (I even included it in a Thursday Treats post) but when their videographer Thomas of Vantage Point Films sent me the link to their gorgeous video (which hasn't been seen elsewhere) I couldn't help but as if I could share some of the photographs taken by Carla Ten Eyck Photography too. Sound good?

A Pop of Colour

Kat

May 21, 2010

II love Jeff & Manya's wedding for so many reasons. The first has got to be Manya's gorgeous 'McKenzie' Modern Trousseau dress complete with swarovski crystal belt, Betsey Johnson shoes and hair piece by Lani Fisher (who works with Jill of Darling Bride who did her hair) and the second is those gorgeous flowers by Jen K Floral Designs. Seriously, aren't those yellows just amaaazing. The wedding overall had a yellow and blue theme - and it really works! The colours of the bridesmaids dresses looks awesome next to the uber 'pop' of the citrus blooms...and don't even get my started on Manya's fuchsia pink lipstick. Epic!

Ashley & Hunter’s Brightly Coloured Wedding

Kat

February 19, 2010

Ashley & Hunter's wedding had me smitten as soon as I saw it. They went for a fun fair theme with brightly coloured and fun pinwheels, noise makers, rock candy, pumpkins and a BBQ from Buz n Neds Barbecue. This pair both have a self-confessed obsession with shoes so Ashley wore an amazing pair from Betsey Johnson with a Marylin Monroe portrait on the sole and Hunter wore red, black and white high top Vans that matched their brightly colored wedding...the bridesmaids even wore red pumps to match. Ashley dress and veil were XX and teamed it with an amazing antique brooch which she found at Ant Hill Antiques in Carytown in Richmond, Va. Their flowers were vibrant and sunny to match the theme and the bridesmaids all wore their own purple mis-matched dresses.

Amy & Jay and Their Way too Awesome New York Wedding Day

Kat

February 4, 2010

I may well be stating the obvious here, but Amy & Jay's wedding is freakin' awesome. Hell to the yeah...I love to blog this stuff! We were married on 01/02/10 in Brooklyn, NY. We really love our neighborhood and wanted to keep it local, allowing our guests to fully experience the day in Williamsburg Brooklyn. We had our ceremony and three course vegan meal at a place called Monkey Town. As a wedding gift, one of our best friends/dancer/aerialist/choreographer, Sarah Wollschlager, did an aerial performance to Etta James' "At Last," which contributed to the uniqueness and beauty of our ceremony. Our officiant, from the Brooklyn Society of Ethical Culture, Tasha Paley, also made the ceremony even more personal- she brought laughter to our guests and made several of us shed a tear while reading an excerpt from "The Little Prince." We then had the reception at Trophy Bar, which included an open bar, dancing, vegan cupcakes, and a photobooth. For the photobooth, two of our best friends created a caution tape backdrop and set up a wireless remote, allowing the guests to get ready and pose! As far as vegan cupcakes in NYC go, Babycakes is the absolute best...we were so relieved that all of the non-vegan guests really loved them! They also made us a 6" cake, where we put our super cute monster cake toppers, created by Leslie Levins. It was absolutely an incredible day and it wouldn't have been what it was without our amazing friends! Amy had two dresses - the ceremony dress was found on Ebay and was a similar design to Maggie Sottero's Rasharna dress, which she loved but when she saw the less-fussy Ebay version she was sold! Her reception dress was from Betsey Johnson's Spring 2008 collection. She carried a felt bouquet by Jennifer Rae of Ribbons n Bows Boutique (who she discovered through Rock n Roll Bride!) Wanna see more? Check out their slideshow! Oh...and their wedding invitation video is too damn cool for words (check it out after the jump...)

Backyard Beautiful

Kat

January 9, 2010

Lauren & Alexander got married last summer in their own back garden, surrounded by 35 of their closest friends and family. The who day was a DIY affair and a perfect reflection of who they are as a couple. Lauren looks amazing in her simple Betsey Johnson dress and Moschino Chic & Cheap shoes, while Alexander bucked all the trends by wearing a casual T-shirt and Jeans from Nordstrom and by spending the whole day barefoot! The wedding had a very comfortable, home-grown, relaxed party feel. The details weren't really that important to this couple, ignored in favour of what really mattered to them - family, friends, home and love. Thanks to Kristi for sharing this, her first ever wedding, with us today. I am in love with this couple and their laid back, chilled attitude

Garden Shoot with Betsey Johnson

Kat

December 29, 2009

Jeff & Maggie got married at the courthouse in Seattle but met with their photographer Dana Pleasant a couple of weeks later to do this rad photo shoot. Maggie wore this beautiful Betsey Johnson dress that she also wore the day they got married. She really wanted some great photos in it - what an excuse! The trio headed to the international district to Kobe Terrace, which is a community garden. Thanks to Dana for sharing these. I look forward to seeing more of her work soon!

Indie Rock

Kat

November 23, 2009

Hello again you gorgeous creatures, I hope you didn't miss me too much this weekend (although I was pretty rubbish at staying away - my phone kept me up to date quite nicely with Twitter and Facebook!) I'm starting this week off with a bang, firstly with the adorably indie Leanne & Nate and their beyond perfect engagement session. Photographer Noa has really been making waves in blog land over the last few months and as always it is my absolute pleasure to share this session that she sent me. As always thanks Noa. You rock my world! People, hold on to your knickers and pop back here in a few hours to find out your three finalists for the Erica Berger Trash the Dress contest. In the words of Dermot O'Leary "They'll need your votes!" (I understand that only makes sense if you're in the UK but oh well!) Credit: FeatherLove Photography

I Love This!

Kat

August 24, 2009

So I saw this wedding on I Love Lolliblog the other day and was instantly smitten. Then when photographer Christine Chang submitted the wedding to me as well I thought 'what the hell' and have decided to break my self-imposed rule of not re-blogging. This wedding is too damn special and too damn rock n roll to pass up! The gorgeous Bride Kristi, who owns her own jewellery company named Diamond Willow designed and DIYed the whole wedding - from the centrepieces to her stunning peacock bouquet, the boutonnieres and her own flower hairpiece. She wore a sample gown designed by Lian Carlo and her Mum altered the neckline and made the train detachable for dancing. The Bridesmaids have got to be some of the most gorgeous I have ever seen, rocking their Betsey Johnson frocks, white platform shoes, babies breath bouquets and personalised 'knuckleduster' rings designed by Kristi herself. Thanks to Christine for sending me these and to I Love Lolliblog for sharing them to begin with! Credit: Christine Chang via I Love Lolliblog
