Alex & Claire's retro, 50's housewife engagement is aces! Not only because it was shot by one of my bestest wedding buddies, Emma Case but because it has tea, cakes and scrabble! "Alex and Claire are getting married in August and Alex is my best friend's boyfriend's brother so I know them both pretty well and am ridiculously excited about their wedding as I know what our nights out are like when we all go out together!" Emma began to yell me excitedly. "A special treat is Claire's wonderful rendition of "Oh, wouldn't it be lovely" in a cockney accent...she's actually very Northern (that's usually nearer the end of the night)."

Laundrette Lovers

I've always loved laundrette photo sessions so when Brighton photographer Joanna Brown sent me this set I couldn't wait to share it... "I have been living in quirky Kemptown in Brighton for some time and have always had my eye on the Laundrette round the corner thinking it would be perfect location for a shoot" Joanna told me. "I have always thought that there is something quite lovely and romantic about laundrettes; the sound of the machines quietly whirling that combined with complete strangers just hanging out sharing a really mundane chore. So I have been patiently waiting for my opportunity to arrive and hey presto a lovely couple got in touch and I could not quite believe it. Laura and Rikki met whilst studying at Bath University and had seen each other around the campus; at the bar, in the library and also spied each other at the local laundrette; after sometime Rikki finally asked Laura out and the rest is history. They are simply an adorable couple who have a great sense of humour, Rikki even took Laura on one of their first dates to a Laundrette (how romantic). We had a hoot at the Laundrette (I think some of the regulars thought we were balmy) especially when Laura lay on the floor for one of the shots; hey it is Brighton though anything goes!"

I don't feature that much boudoir photography, which doesn't mean that I don't like it, it means that I don't like most of what I see of it. However when a session like this one from Sergio Mottola lands on my desk, boy do I approve! Sexy, sensual and girlie without being overtly so. That's what I love. The shoot almost has a playful, retro tone and you can't argue that that is way too Rock n Roll for words.

I've got a second picnic-themed engagement session to share with you today, however you'll forgive my repetition when you see these bad boys. Cupcakes + tattoos + bicycles + bunting + everything awesome you could want in one session = LOVE! Candace & Tyler are way.too.awesome. he even calls her 'Cupcake' AND she has the word tattooed on this inside of her fingers. Oh swoon swoon swoon... I can't wait to see/blog their wedding. I might die with anticipation.

Maura & John's slightly damp, slightly vintage and more than slightly gorgeous engagement session is totally inspiring! I love how they incorporated the things they love into the shoot - they collect old schwinn bikes, love going for bike rides and are crazy about all things vintage/retro/antique so they used some antique china for a mini picnic setting. Cuteness.

Stop number two on our whirlwind tour takes us to the windy city - aka Chicago. I have always been a massive fan of photographer Jeremy Lawson so when I saw this latest wedding, in the same antique/salvage shop that we all fell in love with from his last wedding that I blogged, I couldn't wait to get him on board for another feature! Denise & Mark are both self-confessed quirky and creative types - she is an art director for a music and diy magazine and he runs his very own 'nerd blog' Wolf Gnards - so of course their wedding was going to be a super special one. "When it came to the wedding we wanted to create a fun, unique experience for our friends and family" the couple told me. "Our venue was an architectural salvage / loft space which ended up being the inspiration for the whole event-- everything from my dress to the centerpieces took on that unique, vintage, diy feel...Expect for the cake-- that was straight from the future! But it definitely was a crowd pleaser."

Emma Case is my home-girl. I love her. She is a massive (and I mean crazy massive, like totally obsessed) fan of Featherlove Photography so when she found out that Noa was over in London in April, she jumped at the chance to do an engagement shoot with her fiance Pete. As soon as Emma told me of her plans I immediately 'bagsied' the images for featuring as I knew, even without seeing a single frame or knowing the premise of the shoot that they would be awesome...and boy how right I was! I asked Emma this morning if there was anything she wanted me to add to this post and she simply replied "The only thing I would like to add is a big fat thank you to Pete. I cannot begin to explain how supportive he has been over the past six months. I love him with all my heart and he's so friggin' hot in these pictures it's unreal!!" So much cuteness. Now hurry up and get married you guys. I'm waiting for my invite in the post damnit!

Anyone that's been following me in any capacity over the last 6 months will be well aware of my love and devotion to Emma Case. Not only have I featured as many of her weddings as possible (I can't get enough) but I've even been lucky enough to be photographed by her. I'd say we pretty much have communication every day (whether that be twitter, email, text or talking on the phone!) and I am honoured to call the talented and absolutely awesome lady my friend. So when it came to writing this month's 'Best of Blogs' article for uk photography magazine Photo Pro, who else was I going to choose? Enjoy...

I love this shoot because not only does it look like it was a mountain of fun, but the girls that put it together are the best of friends - make it even more adorable methinks! Photographers Michelle & Hanssie had the idea for this 'retro cars and vintage dresses' shoot and enlisted the help of a bunch of their industry friends to help them. The venue, a car museum called Astor Classics Events Center, had been thinking about opening it's doors for weddings and receptions so the shoot provided the perfect opportunity for some publicity...didn't the shots turn out great? I know I'd love to get married there - what a load of awesome locations for photo ops!

Fanni & Ben got married in April at Cripps Barn in Gloucestershire. Bored by the usual wedding stuff they found in magazines and at wedding shows, the pair turned to the internet for inspiration and luckily for them stumbled upon not only Rock n Roll Bride but a plethora of amazing ideas via some awesome American wedding blogs. "Back at the drawing board, I found myself scanning an array of American wedding blogs. All of which featured jaw-droppingly gorgeous weddings that looked amazing but had little or no information about weddings in the UK, and then I stumbled across your site!" Fanni told me "From that day on, Rock n Roll Bride truly was a breath of fresh air for me from everything else I had seen out there previously. Your site was reassuring that we didn't have to be confined to the norm or do things a certain way because it was tradition. Our wedding was our day, our way. We wanted our guests to have the best time and not be left thinking that they were just at....'another textbook wedding.' So, with much planning and evenings spent beavering away we managed to pull it all together."

Kolby & Kennedy are all kinds of cute... and you know what? I still love balloons shoots. I'm sorry but I just can't help it I actually don't care if they're not 'cool' anymore. I mean especially when the couple are this gorgeous! How can you not adore this? Hher dress, his bow tie, those orange balloons, that light! - picture perfection.

This ghoulish, retro horror themed wedding may not be everybodys cup of tea but I can't help but be a little over-excited about it. So. Much. Originality! Photographer Al, who has just been shortlisted for 'Tattoo Photographer of the Year' was keen to tell me all about Ash and Michelle Ghoulmore's (oh yes!) friday the 13th wedding. The couple run retro rebels store and the horror-themed clothing company Kreepsville 666 so their wedding was always going to be a spooky special. 'Ghoulmore' actually is Ash's surname and they pretty much live Halloween everyday, so it was fitting to pick a horror / b-movie inspired Wedding theme. "This meant I had to light the formals in a slightly different way to ensure I got that punchy highly saturated contrasty feel that fits with the mood" photographer Al told me. "This was the first time I've seen a smoke machine used during the ceremony! The archway was decorated with skulls and light like a stage. As you can see form the photos the cake was a skull and all the attendees got to take home a set of cast-silver effect fangs to say 'fangs for coming' [groan]. Zombina and the Skeletones provided the live music for the reception, again fitting the horror-rockabilly theme."

You're going to love Erica & Ryan's homespun, diy wedding...and you're certainly going to love their story. I was over the moon to receive these gorgeous images from photographer Katie and even more chuffed when Erica got in touch with all the juicy details. "Ryan and I originally thought we would just have a courthouse wedding, and then have a big party. Of course, our parents were not so thrilled with the idea. We also did not want anyone else planning or making decisions for OUR wedding/party, because we did not want it to be the same old wedding and the same old reception that we've all attended twenty times before. Nothing against traditional weddings, we're just not traditional. We also were looking to keep it cheap simply because we think it's silly to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a few hours. All we really needed was the two of us looking snazzy and an amazing photographer."

With a name like Devereaux, it was pretty much a dead cert. that her wedding would be cool and chic, and that her dress would be vintage and fabulous. The dress came from Timelessvixen, which she teamed with a feather fascinator from Pegasusmaiden and 'Stephanie' shoes by Coloriffics. She also wore a vintage coat and clutch bag which she already had in her wardrobe.

I have much love for Chicago photographer Jeremy Lawson and it's always a pleasure to feature his Rock n Roll weddings - especially when they are as awesome as the one of Mary & Alton. The wedding took place at the uber cool Salvage One, which, with it's awesome signage and rustic, almost derelict, antique market interior provided the perfect backdrop to the event. Mary's vintage look was provided by local Chicago design Jess Audey who custom made her beautiful dress and Antje Kastner at Tigerlilie who did her retro/rockabilly style hair and make up.

Behold - a new feature! From the various emails, tweets comments I've received over the last few months I've come to the conclusion that you love regular posts - in particular Thursday Treats and I love writing them so I thought I'd try to do a few more... I was lucky enough to be invited to Julia Boggio's grand studio opening (full report and exclusive piccies coming soon!) on Thursday and after much schmoozing with the glitterati of the British wedding industry I came to realise that I know so many amazing, talented and generally fabulous people here and all over the world. My plan is that every Sunday I'm going to share with you someone who's been particularly fabulous to me that week or someone who's work has blown me away. It's my way of saying 'I heart you' as well as hopefully letting you know about some people you might not have heard of before. I hope you can put them all to good use in your own weddings. I also hope this feature will be a popular one as I know a lot of awesome people and I'd like to be able to share them all with you!

Oh baby, you are going to love these! Heidi & Rick's retro engagegement session just oozes 50's and 60's kitsch cool. Heidi wore a dress that she actually bought from GAP about 9 years ago and added the apron that she made herself. The show may also have been a little bit stolen by Ginger the cocker spaniel however!

Rebecca & Michael wanted a French/Hollywood vintage glam style shoot to signify their engagement. They loved the idea of having a whimsical, vintage feel and Rebecca’s inspiration was that she wanted a shoot that really meant a lot to them as a couple. The fascinator she wore belonged to her grandma when she was young for example. "We were able to create some old Hollywood romance in a local cafe" Australian photographer Tenielle told me. "It looksed as if it belonged in the French countryside. The Cafe we shot at was called ‘Cafe Bouquiniste’, and the owner Meredith has a love for Paris, Books and all things French as you can tell."

The majority of the weddings and photo shoots I feature are sent to be by photographers or recently married couples, however occasionally I'll come across a session so damn cool that I have to email the photographer right away and demand to feature it! This was one of those sessions. I'd followed William Massey's work through a group on flickr for a while now yet it was only now that I really stood up and took notice. Philip & Anela were one of those couples that I instantly knew would suit Rock n Roll Bride to a tee - punky, retro, vintage, quirky, cool...they suited all these words that I overuse everyday on my blog.
