Love is Blindness: A Dracula Bridal Shoot

July 16, 2015

Like any good teenage goth, I grew up with a slight fascination with vampires. From Blade to The Lost, Boys, From Dusk till Dawn to Interview with the Vampire... I even not-so-secretly loved the universally panned Queen of the Damned (well, the soundtrack was good!) So when photographer Lisa Devlin showed me the Dracula inspired bridal shoot that she created at the last Photography Farm workshop, I was super excited to share it!

Flower Beard Bridals with Harnaam Kaur

Urban Bridesmaid

June 30, 2015

Harnaam Kaur has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which meant she started growing a beard from aged 11. Battling to remove her hair every day, and bullied at school, she started to self harm and considered suicide. Harnaam is now a body-confidence and anti-bullying activist and she fully embraces her unique look and hopes to encourage others to do the same. So when this bridal shoot using Harnaam as the model was submitted to me I nearly jumped out of my skin with excitement!

Voodoo and Pagan Witch Wedding Shoot

Paola De Paola

October 1, 2014

As an ex goth, I can’t help being attracted to dark art in general", began Lauren of French Made, who provided the cakes for this shoot. "Plus my recent obsession with the series called ‘Vikings’ and their Pagan way of life gave me inspiration. I was lucky enough to find a fabulous team of wedding suppliers as ready as I am to push the boundaries and willing to get involved and create the most eye pleasing alternative bridal styled shoot."

Spooky ‘Three Brides’ Wedding Editorial

Lashmar Creative

January 12, 2014

It's not often that I feature styled wedding shoots these days, quite simply because I have so many incredible real weddings to share with you! However when photographer Gary of Marshal Gray sent over this 'three brides' editorial that he shot at Belt Craft Studios, I had to bend my rule. I love the style of this session, especially how odd and slightly creepy it all is. This is certainly not something I see very often in wedding photography.

Dr Who Wedding Inspiration

August 31, 2013

This shoot is certainly going to appeal to all you Whovians out there. Come on then, tell me, who's having Dr Who influences in their wedding? "Ever since I became a fan of Doctor Who I’d wanted to do a styled shoot and combine it with one of my other favourite things in life: weddings, of course!" explained photographer Kat Forsyth. "I’d seen a couple of Who-themed shoots around, but I always felt that none of them got it quite right; they were either really pretty, floral and sparkly, or a little too much like a cheesy costume party. I was sure that by assembling a hand-picked team of Doctor Who geeks (read: experts), we could come up with a shoot that not only captured the quirky and fun aspect of the show, but also the atmosphere."

Creative Without Any Restrictions: Alternative Bridal Shoot at Belt Craft Studios

Lisa Jane

August 10, 2013

When some of my favourite wedding suppliers get together for a shoot at one of my favourite locations (we shot the Crown and Glory headpieces in the same studio!) I get very excited indeed... and even more so when they ask if I'd like to feature the results afterwards! Wedding photographer Lisa Jane explains, "Elbie posted a picture on twitter one day, asking if anyone wanted to get involved in an inspiration shoot inspired by it and I took one look and jumped at the chance to collaborate with her. Within minutes we also had the lovely Jo from The Couture Company offering to design us a dress for it and Abby From Cherished Vintage offering headpieces. It was amazing to be able to get creative without any restrictions. Everyone let their imaginations run wild."

A Day in the Life…At The Wedding Magazine Cover Shoot

Kat

April 27, 2011

So last week I was invited by Catherine Westwood, editor at Wedding Magazine, if I'd like to go hang out at a cover shoot with them. Ermmm... let me think about this for like two seconds...YES PLEASE! Before you go getting all excited, no I wasn't asked to model! It will probably be a cold day in hell before any wedding mag can have a pink haired chick on the cover. These publications have to appeal to the mass market and I feel that a neon-headed, inked bride might alienate a rather large proportion of their readership! I was up early last Thursday and on the train to London, excited and honoured to have been invited...even though a little (no, a lot) tired. I arrived at the shoot at 9.30 to be greeted by a familiar face in hairdresser Sev of The Hepburn Collection who had been invited to do the hair, and Julia Ford, art editor of the magazine. I also got to hang out with the rest of the team, many of whom I'd met briefly before at various wedding shows and events. Alison from Pollen Nation (who I worked with on The Big Fat Wedding Bloggers Photo Shoot) was even there to supply some of the gorgeous flowers.

Photography Friday – Behind the Scenes at a Tattoo Magazine Shoot (+ EXCLUSIVE Photos from Al Overdrive)

Kat

September 24, 2010

I am so excited about today's Photography Friday post because I am revealing some behind the scenes shots from what I got up to this week. As always, I was a mean old tease on Twitter & Facebook and I was pretty coy about what I was doing, but I think most of you probably twigged that it was another photo shoot. However, what was kept top top secret was that the shoot was for a brand new super sleek tattoo magazine! The article on me, Rock n Roll Bride and tattooed weddings (hello, how awesome?!) but it isn't out until November, so unfortunately I can't share the favourite/final shots that are going to be used in the mag until then. However photographer Al Overdrive was kind enough to take and edit some especially for the blog so I hope they and these sneaky sneak peeks will keep you entertained until then.

The Original Tattooed Brides

Kat

December 24, 2009

The original tattooed bride photographers, Allebachsent me these this morning and I had to get them up right away. What could be better to gaze at right before Christmas that tattooed beauties looking shaaweeet!? The images came from a 'shoot out' in Philadelphia, where a bunch of photographers gets together and shoot the same situation together to learn from each other and generally get some kick ass imagery themselves... So the Philly Photog Shootouthappened. In case you haven't heard a Photog shootout is an event where photographers meet, photograph models and learn from each other. Anyway Rob "Ninja" Nicholson contacted me because he wanted to get a punk rock bridal theme going and needed a few more models. So I reached out to the most amazing couples in the world (my clients) and got a few responses. Jess an amazing bride (and rollergirl) married earlier this year was one of the first to respond. Patty DeCasere (my old punk rock band's drummer's former band's singer's wife - got it?) did an amazing job giving Jess a mohawk. Another friend Alicia from the 20s flapper shoot we did at the historic Stotesbury Mansion handled the costume design (available for wardrobe at belle_morte66@yahoo.com) Robyn & John an engaged couple took a day and drove up from Annapolis and found the inner model in them. Really they just acted like themselves and everyone got great photos. Erin Proud (wedding planner of Lori & Kevin's Eastern State Penitentiary wedding) channeled her inner anger and teenage angst for the shoot, along with an amazing wedding photographer turned model, Leslie Gilbert. Despite shooting photos in what felt like subzero conditions in Center City Philadelphia, everyone seemed to be having a great time, networking and learning. Thanks to Mike for sending me this little Xmas gift! Credit: Allebach Photography
