Gothic Red & Black Wedding With Peaky Blinders Groomsmen and a Hint of Horror

Taking inspiration from their own home décor along with weddings featured in Rock n Roll Bride Magazine and a shared love of horror films, Jodie and Matthew were determined to create a day to remember. Planning through various lockdowns, their day was a chance for friends and family to meet up again.

“We loved hearing the excitement about our wedding as it was going to be the first big get together since COVID had started meaning there were people we hadn’t been able to see in ages attending. There was a buzz around the big day for over a year and to see everyone’s faces light up when they could see what we had put together, watch us get married and be able to enjoy themselves surrounded by friends and family was such a lovely thing to witness.”

Horror-Inspired Wedding in a Cinema with a Drag-Queen Celebrant

Terri-Sian works in the music business, so when it came to organising her December wedding to partner Stewart, she had a head start on the organisation side of things. The couple found strength in their conviction to be able to plan a day that was based around them and their interests; in fact, the only traditional things they did were have speeches and cut the cake! “We were the inspiration for our wedding; we chose things that made us happy and just did things our way.”

They went to the cinema on their first date, and Stewart is a film buff, so having their ceremony at The Duke of York’s Picture House in Brighton was a no-brainer! As guests arrived, they were handed a glass of fizz and a bag of popcorn, then lead to their seats in the screen. They were entertained with a montage of clips of classic black and white horror films while Terri-Sian and Stewart had their first look on the balcony with their bridesmaids and Harrison Ford (the dod) dressed as jaws.

Horror Themed Ohio Wedding with a $3000 Budget

Heather and Timmy’s outdoor Ohio wedding was horror-film inspired, even down to the date – 27th May was Vincent Price aka the King of Horror’s, birthday!

Although they met through a mutual friend when they were younger, it was only later on that Heather and Timmy found each other. Their connection wasn’t during the happiest time in either of their lives –  Heather was dealing with her son being hospitalised by a poisonous spider bite and Timmy’s girlfriend had just passed away – but they were able to help and comfort each other through it. Heather explains,”Timmy was there to help me go through very tough times and I knew instantly that I wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. Timmy’s not only my best friend and the love of my life – at the same time he saved it.”

Inspired by Edgar Allen Poe, Vincent Price and the Bride of Frankenstein, their colour scheme was deep reds and blacks. Heather’s wedding dress  featured a coloured lace-up corset back for a splash of colour, and was a bargain at $75 on eBay, as were Timmy’s suit and the bridesmaid dresses.

Horror Film and Leopard Print Wedding… With Sphynx Cats!

Gothic Halloween Wedding... With Sphynx Cats (37)

When I shared a preview of Fran and Lewis’ wedding on my Facebook page, you all FREAKED OUT – and with good reason too. I mean, just check out Fran’s killer Couture Company dress, those leopard Crown and Glory kitty ears and their guests of honour – their sphynx cats!

The pair were married at Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire and they had their reception of pizza and movies at home. “Our wedding was just ‘us'”, said Fran. “We wanted everything we love to be a part of the day. That meant cats, pizza, leopard print, Him (our favourite band) Frankenstein and horror films!”

“Our ceremony was a hand-fasting and it was our favourite part of the day. Jumping the broom was amazing… and we got to keep it afterwards! We did it outside so it was really cold and really windy (my Nan had 3 coats on!) but it was wonderful. We also loved having our ‘reception’ back at our own house. Just having our best friends there and watching Pet Semetary (our go-to horror film!) and relaxing was amazing.”

Horror Themed Museum Wedding

Horror themed museum wedding (21)

Teri and Carson planned their horror themed wedding completely by themselves. They also handmade everything from the bride’s accessories (including her Slayer garter!) to all the flowers, and the stationery to all the reception décor. The wedding was held at the Orlando Science Center with the ceremony on the rooftop and the reception down with the dinosaurs!

“Our inspiration was horror movies, and other things we both love like Freddy Krueger, Beetlejuice, Jaws, Godzilla and dinosaurs”, began the bride. “Our main goal was to make sure that the wedding had us written all over it.”

“We choreographed the whole ceremony with lights, fog and music, and each bridal party member walked down to a different song. The groom walked down the aisle alone to Slayer’s Raining Blood and I walked in to a string quarter version of Sweet Child of Mine. Our officiant read our vows from the Recently Deceased book from Beetlejuice and our wedding arch, which we also made out of foam, was inspired by Beetlejuice wedding arch. The gargoyle pillars were also homemade.”

“We played a video during the ceremony that had a montage of clips of us over the years. It was projected onto the wall of the building behind our arch. We also had a video of bats flying and the moon projected on the building wall before the ceremony.”

Classic Horror Movie Lovers’ Gothic Wedding

gothic horror film lovers wedding (32)

After being set up by mutual friends, Kim and Richard quickly realised they had a lot in common, first and foremost their appreciation of the macabre and all things gothic. So when we married, five years later, they decided this had to be the theme of the wedding.

“We went for a 50s rockabilly aesthetic but with touches of goth and lots of mentions of a shared love of classic horror films”, Kim said. “All the tables were named after Hammer Horror actors. We also had a splash of kitsch glamour because I love leopard print. Like, really love it.”

Both the ceremony and reception were held at Stockport Town Hall. “One of the reasons we chose our venue was due to the gorgeous marble staircase that, as an option, couples could get married on”, Kim continued. “We both embarked on our own DIY projects for the wedding too. Richard made the seating plan and centrepieces. The skulls candles were purchased at Asda over Halloween and the candelabras were an exceptionally impressive eBay deal! I made three button bouquets and a number of buttonholes. As it transpires, that was easier said than done but I managed it and I think I did a pretty good job too!”

Halloween and Horror Wedding in a Cemetery

Halloween Wedding in a Cemetery (17)

Courtney and Todd were married on October 31st and had a Halloween wedding at Bradley Chapel at Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn, NY.  The cemetery made for the perfect location for their portraits too!

“I love cemeteries and I have always said that if I ever got married, it would be in one”, Courtney wrote. “We’re both big horror fans so getting married at a cemetery on Halloween just made sense! We really wanted to capitalise on the whole Halloween and horror theme. We used real toe tags as escort cards and instead of table numbers we assigned every table a horror movie. We also incorporated ‘jumping the broom’ into our ceremony, which is something that none of our guests had ever seen before.”

The bride wore a beautiful princess style dress from David’s Bridal with gothic style accessories that all came from eBay. “For years I had told everyone that I would be wearing a black dress when I got married”, she explained. “I looked and tried on a few black dresses but I never got that ‘bride’ feeling until I tried on a white one. I fell in love with the third white dress I tried on, and purchased it without even giving it a second thought. From that day on, I had to keep the colour of my dress a secret from EVERYONE!! I wanted it to be a huge shock when the doors opened and I came out in white. It was especially hard to keep the secret from Todd. Especially since I made my own veil. He asked me one day why I was making a white veil and I had to tell him that it was for a friend who was getting married as well. So imagine his surprise when I walked up wearing a white dress and the veil that I made right in front of him!!”

A Day of the Dead, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Taxidermy-Filled Wedding

taxidermy and alternative wedding at Aynhoe park (22)

Aynhoe Park might be one of the weirdest and most wonderful wedding venues in the UK… because it’s stuffed (boom boom!) full of taxidermy! Everywhere you look the walls are adorned with animals. They even have a full sized giraffe being held up by balloons! Rosie and James wanted somewhere unusual to host their alternative wedding and Aynhoe Park was just perfect.

“We really just wanted our wedding to totally reflect our personalities and us as a couple”, explained the bride. “We didn’t want to be restricted by following traditions. Instead, we wanted everybody to be involved and for it to be a celebration of all our family and friends coming together as well as our love for each other. We chose two long banquet-style tables for this reason, forgoing the tradition of a top table, and included our family and friends in the ceremony with readings. James and I also wrote our own vows, something that was very important to us, as we could include some personal, silly and soppy touches.”

“I had seen Pete at punk shows for years, all through high school to be exact”, began the bride. “I would always try to go to see his bands play but would have to leave early because I was too young to drive myself. We finally ended up talking and meeting through mutual friends years later and things just clicked.”

A Macabre Sweeney Todd Inspired Wedding Shoot: Amy & Paul

AmyPaulGothicShootAssassynation-10004

I’m not going to lie, I’m a little freaked out by this shoot… in fact I’m downright scared. I don’t think I’d like to get stuck in a dark alley with this pair, as lovely as I bet they are when they’re not covered in fake blood. Amy & Paul went all out with this post-wedding shoot – murder, fake blood, suicide and all!

Warning: this baby is not for the faint hearted. I’m under no illusion that not everybody is going to like or ‘get’ this. But Paul & Amy do and isn’t that all that really matters?

AmyPaulGothicShootAssassynation-10050

“Paul and I decided on going for trash the dress shoot because we were disappointed with our wedding pictures (not taken by Sassy who shot this for us!),” began Amy. “We went for a gothic steampunk feel that fit in with the theme of the day…. Halloween!! In the evening reception, we had a fancy dress theme and we dressed as Mrs Lovett and Sweeney Todd. Because we felt that the official wedding pictures didn’t do our wedding justice, we decided to have a photo shoot afterwards with a similar theme. We had seen Sassy’s work on Rock n Roll Bride and particularly loved Toni & Colin’s wedding and really felt that Sassy would get where we were coming from, so I contacted her straight away.”
