Rock n Roll Bride - The ultimate guide for alternative brides

Sweet Tooth

Kat

December 2, 2009

I actually featured newbie photographer Shannon McLaughlin's own wedding waaaay back in February - many of you may recognise her as Mrs Candy Corn from Wedding Bee. Well, like many of us recent brides, the thought of giving up all things wedding once she'd tied the knot was too much to bear so she decided to venture into wedding photography herself...and oh how pleased we are that she did! She has only had her professional camera for a little over a month and look how awesome she is already! The recently engaged Veronika & Bryan acted as models for this shoot. Veronika owns her own vintage shop called Sweet Tooth Vintage through the fabulous Etsy so she had lots of amazing outfits to wear. I am also loving the various props and locations used for this shoot - an environmental centre in Philadelphia, the couple's own home (including their insane number of pets!) and a cuuuute tandem bike! A Huge Rock n Roll thank you ro Shannon for sharing her work and this amazing couple. I am so excited to see more of her in future! ps go check out her blog - it's super duper cute! Kind of A Big Deal

Kat

October 16, 2009

So I may have written a massive article about how fab Erica Berger is just a two days ago, but when she showed me these photographs and told me the couple found her through Rock n Roll Bride...well I wasn't going to say no to sharing these little beauties was I!? Leigh & Corbett are kind of a big deal (was that a line from Anchorman?hehe). He is the co-creature of the "Saw" franchise and she is an actress and was in The Young & The Restless - I have famous readers don't ya know?! Apparently they love me and went nuts when they saw Erica's work on my blog. I'm a little bit over-excited about that. Woooooo. Oh. And their wedding absolutely rocked. Thanks Erica, Leigh & Corbett...love you too!

Just Sassy

Kat

October 11, 2009

I recieved this adorable email yesterday...how could I say no? Now, this couple isn't tattooed (that I know of) or super outrageous, but they are pretty damn sassy. We shot these in Duluth, Minnesota and we brought out their dog, their scooter and braved a decaying deer to get some sweet graffiti shots. I had the HARDEST time choosing which ones to show you, so if you want to see the cute pooch and graffiti pics, you will just have to ask to see more! Well Stephany was right - cute, sassy and certainly rock n roll worthy. Me likey... Thanks to Stephany for sharing these with us Credit: EyeSpy Weddings

A Blue-tiful Mess

Kat

October 10, 2009

As soon as I laid eyes on this beautiful bride in her STUNNING blue dress I knew I had to share and after speaking to Chloe herself and getting all the hot gossip and details from the day, well I couldn't resist but to post these immediately. Take it away Chloe... We got married at Junior Ranks Mess on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and didn't actually have a theme - I am far too eclectic to pick a just one and definitely even less likely to find one my hubby would have agreed with! I basically chose everything I liked and knew it wouldn't match but it would make sense to everyone who knew Kevin & I, because we are both such open and free people. We chose blue as a color but did not limit it to any particular shade or tone, and the result was a beautiful mess of all colors of blue imaginable - it was a huge hit with the wedding party and guests and took so much stress out of planning (who wants to have to order swatches?) Decor was came to under $100 - I hand folded 200 tissue pompoms to hang, hand folded 300 paper cherry blossoms for bouquets, centrepieces and ceremony decor and Kevin hung 300 blue and white balloons. Even the candles and vases were dollar store and I don't have any leftover because people went crazy for them and brought them all home! We did everything possible it seems to drive my traditional in laws crazy - we asked for money instead of gifts, we served hor d'hoeuves instead of a dinner, I had a bridesman, I designed a dress to showcase my ink when my father in law suggested I get a turtleneck gown to hide them (seriously!) Oh, and Kevin insisted on rocking the ceremony and marched in there to Sweet Child O Mine by VitaminStringQuartet, and we rocked right out of there to Dance,Dance by VitaminStringQuartet. I tried on traditional gowns but looked like I was playing dress up, so in the end I ordered my dream dress - I saw it on Project Runway season 1 years back and said "that will be my dress" (the white dress). I found a great seamstress on etsy AtelierTami in Greece, who made it for $120! It was exactly what I wanted - plain. I have enough skin decoration and planned on accessorizing on top of that! I got my blue, reception dress from Sarah Seven also on etsy. I had a beautiful birdcage veil made by another etsy artisan, 5eizen and got my shoes from Betsey Johnson (Vixen) but I added the shoe ruffles myself which I made. and Kevin bought his outfit at a skateboarding shop for under $100. My bridesmaids/men chose their own outfits, I told them blue and white and something you will wear again. I wanted them to look like themselves, since I chose them because I love them as they are. I want to give a shout out to all these amazing etsy sellers that I used: White Gown by AtelierTami Blue, reception dress by Sarah Seven Birdcage Veil by 5eizen Gloves by Creonodo Shrug by LolaShowGirl Bouquet by YandeBridal Corsages, Boutonnieres and pompoms by CocoCupcakes Earrings by SweetLobe Thanks to the lovely Chloe & Kevin for sharing their blue-tiful (!) day with us! Domestic Bliss

So I received a link to this amazing lifestyle style engagement session last week and I have been waiting with baited breath all week to share them with you! I love the concept. It's like a day in the life of...series. It really reminds me of that Brangelina W Magazine shoot. It's got a great 1950's vibe to it all. Either way it's flipping gorgeous and Sabina & Andres make for fantastic models. Thanks to Molly & Matt for sharing this awesome set with us! Credit: Mathieu Photography

Multi-Coloured Tresses

Kat

August 12, 2009

My life as a blogger is a pretty damn busy one. I'm not just saying this for effect, but I get sent so much amazing stuff to post everyday that I almost can't keep up! The next post of this early Wednesday morning ( have no clue why I'm up so early, I even drank a whole bottle of wine last night) belongs to one of my brand spanking new sponsors, Stacy Able. As soon as I saw this set I knew she not only had to send it to me for posting but she had to make it the image for her new sponsor link. The multicoloured tresses, the splattered paint, the cute dog...oh yeah baby my sponsors are the bestest. Credit: Stacy Able

Vibrant.

Kat

August 9, 2009

Dave & Pam sure let their imagination run wild with their gorgeous wedding at Canada's Kopje Regional Park. The Bride is particular loves bright colours and so decided to reflect that in their day by organising and designing the whole thing herself. Her dress was by Maggie Sottero and the awesome stripey cake was made by Wedding Cake Creations. For the flowers they relied on the expertise of Art Knapp Plantland & Florists, which meant they got the perfect pink, orange and red (who says they don't go together!?) flower combo to compliment the rest of the decor. I love their completely non-boring group shots too! The photographers wanted to find something different and were worried that they might not in such a small town. However when driving one day, the spotted the a mechanic's garage on the side of the highway and after asking a pretty confused owner permission to use the site they had found their perfect spot. The antiquey sofa and the fun masks add a great finish to the shots and transform them into something that is anything but dull. Thanks to photographers Emmy & Aaron for sharing this hot damn gorgeous wedding with us! Credit: E/A Photography

Days Gone By

August 5, 2009

Emma & Chris had their engagement shoot at home with the french bulldog Colby for company. Chris' sister photographed them using film and digital to get these great shots. I have had such a resurgence of love for film photography recently, I am loving reliving days gone by with the gorgeousness of real film photography so these are right up my street. Thanks to Emma & Chris for sending me these gorgoeus shots and I can't wait to see their wedding photographs (which will be captured by the wonderful Katherine O'Brien) Credit: Kelly Lynn James for Williams-Matson

Retro Italy Wedding

Kat

August 3, 2009

I'm well aware it's very unlike me to blog so little on a Monday but I have been a bit of a busy bee today. Please forgive me and fret not because Janel & Jim's 'retro italian' wedding is here y'all! (I don't know where that 'y'all' came from either) The couple continued to rock their awesome kitch/rockabilly style whist still managing to pull of a pretty damn elegant wedding. The dog was of course there being his cutie-pie self and the styling was second to none. From the vintage vespas (again) to the retro suitcase, from the kinky killer heels to the merrygoround - this wedding is one of pure rock n roll class.

Wonderful Waves

Kat

July 12, 2009

You are going to totally adore these. Nancy's dress is just gorgeous and all those wonderful waves throughout the skirt make for some pretty dramatic shots. I am just loving all the portraits (especially the ones with the cute doggie, sorry Edward - i.e. Groom!) Make sure you go check out their wedding slideshow to see the rest of the day too, it's worth for all the detail shots alone. Thanks to the wonderful Amelia Lyon for letting me share these with you all.
