An old elevator and a creepy, deserted boiler room made for the setting du jour for Patrica's Trash the Dress shoot. The venue was actually the basement of the hair salon she works in (Celebrity Hair in Edmonton) Photographer Elizabeth explains: The elevator in the building is just awesome with old scuffed hardwood floors, wood grate and brick walls surrounding. Patricia worked a pretty traditional looking dress, but the photos are far from traditional! We had some fun with a big chunk of tulle that looks awesome in the photos! We ended he session in the very scary pitch black boiler room. The only light in there was the flashlight that I was using to light the session. It was so quiet and creepy down there and then every so often the boiler would roar to life! Was scary, but totally worth it because look at how awesome the photos are! I trust you had a good Christmas? I trust you had a good Christmas and Santa was nice to you? Down my chimney fell a swanky new 18.5" wide screen monitor (droooool) a Fuji Instax, a PINK Vivienne Westwood bracelet and an 'eco cup'. These are my favouritest presents. Santa obviously knows me very well - that I am a total blogging and photography geek, that Vivienne Westwood makes me happy and that I drink way too much coffee! I am muchly looking forward to playing with all my new toys and will certainly be scanning in some of my Instax shots soon. Was Santa just as good to you?Anyway, it's nice to have you back, it's been lonely without you dear reader. Although I am going to keep blogging between now and new year, the posts maybe a bit sparcer than usual. I'll still be here, plugging along though, so please don't hesitate to still get in touch if you need too.. Well the winter submissions have poured in over the festive period so I'm going to get right back into it with this snowy graveyard shoot from Jeffery Chan Tin. Bridal shoots in graveyards always seem to provoke some kind of controversy (who knows!?) but how can anybody argue that these images aren't ridiculously stunning? I really do love the snow... This bride actually bought a prom dress to wear on her big day as she wanted a little black number! It fitted in perfectly with their venue (an estate) and it's beautiful and old demeanor - it was full of antiques which suited the couple and their style perfectly. The reception was outside held and decorated with butterflies and moss which certainly made for the perfect backdrop for photographs. With an English family who love football (soccer!) they had to get a game in there. The bride even bought wellies - black and pink of course - to play along in the rain too. Burle & Martin had a creole glamorama wedding at The Metro Hotel. Their vintage New Orleans theme was culminated with a plethora of fishnets, feathers, masks, beads and Fluevog shoes. One of my favourite details has got to be the cupcake bouquet by Cookies by Kin...hello - how awesome!!? Burle's dress was by Venus Bridal and her veil was found at Etsy. I know I say this a lot but eeek I am so excited to share Vince & Amanda's wedding. I have been lusting over it ever since Lisa of Ophelia Photography showed me a sneaky peak and the full wedding certainly lives up to my hype! The candy coloured wedding took place at Minoru Chapel and UBC Boathouse in Vancouver and Amanda's dress was handmade by her Mother - how rad is that!? Lisa you rock my flipping world girl. As photographers, Emmy & Aaron are more comfortable being behind the camera then in front, but for their one year anniversary (this week!) they decided they deserved some gorgeous photographs of their own! Emmy told me the whole story: When we took a little anniversary trip to a cabin on Cowichan Lake (Vancouver Island BC Canada) I pulled my dress, by Demetrios, out of the closet and took it with us. We had a great little cabin on the beach and there were some other perfectly decayed old buildings on the property including this great lime green shed. The owner expressed some concern that we were making photos in front of "the biggest eyesore on the property". I think that old shed is perfect!. We met over a conversation about our shared love of photography. Pretty soon we also loved each other and now we love making photographs together. We can't believe how lucky we are that we found each other and that we both have the same passion. I don't let him shoot me that often - I like being behind the camera as much as he does - but putting that dress on tends to let you become somebody else for a while. Doesn't hurt that its my hot hubby behind the camera! Everyone should do this on their anniversary – let those dresses out of the closet girls you look fabulous in them and they want to be seen! I have a distinct lack of a day filled with snooze myself as I plan to share some gorgeous and rockin' trash the dress sessions with you (and knowing me probably more!) Dave & Pam sure let their imagination run wild with their gorgeous wedding at Canada's Kopje Regional Park. The Bride is particular loves bright colours and so decided to reflect that in their day by organising and designing the whole thing herself. Her dress was by Maggie Sottero and the awesome stripey cake was made by Wedding Cake Creations. For the flowers they relied on the expertise of Art Knapp Plantland & Florists, which meant they got the perfect pink, orange and red (who says they don't go together!?) flower combo to compliment the rest of the decor. I love their completely non-boring group shots too! The photographers wanted to find something different and were worried that they might not in such a small town. However when driving one day, the spotted the a mechanic's garage on the side of the highway and after asking a pretty confused owner permission to use the site they had found their perfect spot. The antiquey sofa and the fun masks add a great finish to the shots and transform them into something that is anything but dull. Glamour. Pure unadulterated glamour. From the gorgeous Bride and her girls all in their stunning custom made hairpieces from Heather Mandin to the Groom and his boys arriving at Grouse Mountain (the Peak of Vancouver) in a helicopter, the whole day just screams magnificence! It goes without saying that the locations is spectacular, but it's the ridiculous fun they look like they had that does it for me. Canadian photographer Tara McMullen told me all about this gorgeous day: Keira + Joe were married on June 13, 2009 on Algonquin Island in downtown Toronto, Ontario. The special part about the Island is that it is car-free and inhabited by just a small group of "Islanders" who live in the fewer then 300 homes on the Island. This is pretty remarkable considering it is located just a 15-minute ferry ride from the very busy downtown area of Toronto. It is a very intimate community :: an intimacy that was reflected in Keira + Joe's day - everyone felt like a friend by the end of the night. The ceremony and reception took place at the Queen City Yacht Club where Joe races boats in his spare time. A DIY-bride, Keira strove to save where she could - including creating her own centre pieces using potted plants. Every person wishing to attend the wedding was brought across Lake Ontario by a ferry that dropped them just outside the Club. The ceremony was held on the lawn, overlooking the Toronto skyline - it was stunning. The attention to detail was remarkable - the theme nautical. Their place cards were boating flags, and old fishermen figurines stood guard over the fruit trays during the cocktail reception. And it wasn't cheesy at all -- not an easy feat with a nautical/boating theme! One of my favourite parts was the kissing game during dinner. Guests were asked to create Haiku poems which were then read to the crowd. A poem earned a kiss. A memorable keepsake for the couple, and many good laughs were had over some of the poems! Keira's dress is an Alfred Sung, which she purchased from the The Bride's Project. The Bride's Project collects donated dresses from designers and sells them on behalf of several cancer charities. In Keira's words, "I got lucky, saw it as it was being delivered, and snatched it." :) What a stunning dress, and helps charity, too - amazing!
