What No-One Tells You About Eloping (And How to Make It Still Feel Special)

Kat

Jenn and Pawel

March 23, 2026

For a long time, eloping meant running away to get married in secret. But today it usually means the couple have chosen to elope because they want a wedding that feels calm, intentional and focused on the two of them rather than the expectations of everyone else. Some elopements even include a small guest list (although these should more accurately be called micro weddings). But while elopements are often portrayed as effortless and carefree, there are a few things people rarely talk about when planning one. So, if you’re thinking about eloping, here are some practical things to know and simple ways to turn it into a meaningful experience rather than just a quick legal formality.

Kelsey and Reese's wedding was inspired by something they already loved - the annual Renaissance Faire. Their day featured costumes, swords, mead and a full cast of enthusiastic guests. The whole thing was DIY, with the couple spending no more than $12,000 in total! The day played out like a festival gathering with a ceremony in the garden followed by a reception full of theatrical touches, handmade details and a joust.

Prague Stag & Hen Parties for People Who Don’t Want the Clichés (Hidden Gems Edition)

Guest Contributor

March 19, 2026

When you hear “Prague stag do” you’re probably picturing all the clichés: Matching T-shirts, plastic pint glasses, and a loose schedule that really just revolves around getting as drunk and disorderly as possible. You can do that if you want, but Prague has a whole other side that makes way more sense if your group leans more alternative, creative or you don’t just want to be herded between bars all weekend. If you’re planning a Prague stag or hen weekend and want something that actually feels like you, this is where it gets interesting.

March 19, 2026

Andrew and Becca gathered their friends and family at an off-season summer camp in northern Vermont. They had already eloped before planning the gathering, so that really took the pressure off. The legal part was done so this was their chance to just bring their people together and celebrate. The couple wanted the weekend to feel open and relaxed. Guests stayed on site. They swam, cooked meals together, played music, and wandered between small pockets of activity across the camp.

Cheap Wedding Ideas That Don’t Actually Feel Cheap

March 18, 2026

A cheap wedding and a bad wedding are not the same thing. Some of the most joyful, memorable weddings cost very little money, and some of the most expensive weddings feel like a corporate conference with flowers. The difference is rarely the budget. It’s how couples choose to spend it. If you’re planning a wedding without a huge budget, your goal probably isn’t to make everything as cheap as possible. It’s to spend money where it matters and skip the things nobody really notices anyway. Here are some genuinely cheap wedding ideas that still feel thoughtful, fun and completely intentional.

Stag and Bird

March 17, 2026

April and Brandy married twice, both in ways that made sense for them. In July, under a willow tree in the garden of their friend and photographer Courtney of Stag and Bird, the couple made it official. By autumn, they decided they wanted a second day that marked the marriage in a different way. So, in October they drove four hours south from where they live in Kansas City to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Waiting for them were Courtney and her assistant Kendal, along with a loose plan to say some vows at sunrise at Lover’s Leap, a scenic overlook just outside the town.

Finding a unique wedding reading can be surprisingly difficult. The internet is full of the same handful of poems, movie quotes and Bible verses that have been appearing at weddings for decades. They might be beautiful, but they don't always resonate if your teenage years were spent in band tees, lurking on music forums or writing questionable poetry in the margins of your school books. Wedding readings don't have to come from traditional wedding sources and the best wedding reading is rarely the most famous one. Look through the books on your shelves, revisit the novels and movies that shaped your teenage years, read the lyrics that got you through difficult times. If you're planning a wedding that leans a little darker, a little stranger or simply a little more you, here are some places to start.

What We Can Learn From Vintage Wedding Magazines in 2026

Kat

June 1, 2026

A few weeks ago, a reader reached out to say she'd found a stack of wedding magazines from the 1970s in her mum's house and asked if I'd like them. Er, would I ever! I love old magazines and have picked up many a vintage copy of Vogue from car boot sales and reclamation shops over the years. Wedding magazines, though, are surprisingly hard to come by. I knew they'd be fun to look through, but what I didn't expect was how much I'd end up learning from them.

The Wedding Dress Shopping Questions Nobody Thinks to Ask

Alexandra Merri

Spring Summer Collective

May 29, 2026

Most brides go into wedding dress shopping focused on what they want their dress to look like. You’ve probably saved necklines, silhouettes and sleeve details to Pinterest boards for months… but once you actually start to try dresses on, it will suddenly start to dawn on you that there are a lot of practical considerations too. A 20-foot train may look incredible on a mood board, but in reality, it will frustrate you before the ceremony is even over. A long sleeve gown may be the vison in your head, but if you’re getting married in the height of summer, think again. That basque waist may be stunning, but can you sit down and eat while wearing it?

Casey met Dwayne in 2005 while looking for a tattoo artist. Appointments turned into years of friendship. In November 2022, when they realised they were both single, Casey invited Dwayne to a local venue to watch a friend’s stand up set after a session. Sitting in the booth, he reached over, grabbed her face, and kissed her. “He said he’d been waiting to do that for a long time and we’ve been inseparable ever since."

Birgitte and Anthony met when they were teenagers, but didn't stay to fall for each other until a lot later in life. They went to a theatre with mutual friends, and sparks started to fly. "The theme for our wedding was forbidden love", Anthony told us. "This is because our love was a little secret in our early days. We we didn't want anyone to know about it from day one so we had a lot of secret dates."

Electric Honey

Kimmy and James planned a 14-person micro wedding with a black, gold and orange palette inspired by Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando, where James proposed during their annual trip. The ring came in a black velvet coffin box and featured an opal stone surrounded by skulls and roses. From there, the aesthetic unfolded naturally. Matte black stationery with gold foil lettering sat alongside tiger lilies, skull candles and a coffin-shaped card holder.

Wedding themed photo shoots and editorials often follow a very particular formula, but when wedding planner Catalina Rojo of Celebrations by Catalina set out to organise one, she knew she'd be taking a very different route. Rather than focusing on a couple, or a single bride model, she called in help from a diverse collection of models and suppliers who she knew would help her celebrate inclusivity, creativity, and some really bold design ideas.

A few weeks before this shoot took place, the venue wasn't exactly wedding ready. The lease for Continental Square Ballroom in York, Pennsylvania, had only recently been signed. Furniture left behind by previous occupants was still scattered throughout the space and construction was ongoing. Most planners would have waited until the dust settled before bringing in photographers and models but Kyla Edwards of Eternal Moment saw it's potential.

With the overall message of issue 67 being ' freedom', the desert felt like a natural starting point for the main editorial shoot. Our models were Sydney and Steven, a real couple who eloped in Vegas a few years ago and whose wedding we previously featured. Their familiarity with each other brought an ease and authenticity to the shoot that simply couldn’t have been manufactured. In fact, many of the accessories they wore were their own!

Nick and Lauren

November 25, 2025

When Nosferatu flickered back onto cinema screens, Lauren from Nick and Lauren Photography left the theatre feeling inspired by the film’s shadowy beauty. “I was inspired by the cinematography used in the movie, and wanted to do a wedding shoot that emulated that same aesthetic, but without being vampire based,” she told us. “We decided to combine the elements of country meets alternative, and started joking about what Nosferatu's wedding would look like if it were in the West. Everything snowballed from there!”
