With the overall message of issue 67 being ‘ freedom‘, the desert felt like a natural starting point for the main editorial shoot. Our models were Sydney and Steven, a real couple who eloped in Vegas a few years ago and whose wedding we previously featured. Their familiarity with each other brought an ease and authenticity to the shoot that simply couldn’t have been manufactured. In fact, many of the accessories they wore were their own!

Styling focused on relaxed desert fits in warm, neutral tones, with a subtle rock ‘n’ roll edge. Hair and make-up took cues from the 70s, the brief being to make it look worn-in rather than overly polished.

The energy of the day was loose and unpressured and many of the genuine moments between the set-up shots results in some of our favourite photos. The result is an editorial that captures two people as they are, in a wide-open landscape, with the freedom and permission to do things their own way. It honestly doesn’t get more rock ‘n’ roll than that.
