Beach Party Wedding on a Boat

beach party boat wedding (28)

Sanita and Vinko wanted their wedding to feel like a big party, and what could be more fun than a party on a boat!? “We wanted to surprise our guests with our wedding”, said the bride. “Most of them expected a wedding at a restaurant (which is where we had our meal) but the majority of the day was on the boat! We will never forget that look in their eyes when they realised that the ceremony was going to be on a boat!”

The ceremony began just as the boat left the dock. “One of our friends, who acted as DJ, started to play one of my favourite songs, Hungry Eyes from the Dirty Dancing. Vinko was standing on the stern while I walked toward him, dancing. When the song had finished the registrar started a short speech. During the ceremony the waves started to get bigger so the boat stopped in the middle of two islands.”

Alternative Beach Elopement in Lisbon

Alternative Elopement in Portugal_Adriana Morais Photography (64)

Anja and Almir eloped in Lisbon, Portugal. They started the day with a legal ceremony, followed by some photographs around the city. However their second ceremony, on a beach in Bafureira was the one they felt most connected too.

“Our wedding was about celebrating ourselves and starting our new life together the way that felt most natural”, the bride said. “We did it just for the two of us. We were inspired by Lisbon itself for the photos we had taken.”

“Nobody knew about our plans to get married”, she continued. “We informed our family and friends after our ‘weddingmoon’. We also did things very quickly, planning it all in under a month. In that time we booked flights (we are from Vienna), our hotel, hair and make up, flowers and made a wedding arch. We spend less than two hours finding out outfits. My dress was from H&M. We had no formal reception, we just booked a restaurant for dinner the day before! We also booked a tuk-tuk for a ride across Lisbon’s oldest parts to take photos.”

Costume Wedding on the Beach

Kristina and Florian were married in a tent on the beach in northern Germany. After their small ceremony, they danced, played and got messy on the beach with all their guests… Oh and everyone was in animal fancy dress!

“Our wedding was crazy and out of the box”, said the bride. “Our daughter loves animals and it was her idea to have everyone dressed up! The Germans tend to be very conservative, especially in the northern part of the country where we are, so it was very hard to get our dream wedding – we had to fight for it!”

Julie and Arthur wanted something colourful and relaxed, with a Latino and ethnic touches to reflect the bride’s Colombian heritage. The wedding took place in France in June.

“We wanted more on an American style wedding”, said the bride. “We wanted to be outside and we didn’t want a traditional church ceremony. We rented this amazing house with a view over the ocean for a week. This gave us time to prepare everything and to welcome our family and friends for longer. It was more like a holiday with a wedding in the middle!”

Ocean View Family-Focused Wedding

Ocean Kave competition winners wedding (44)

Lee and Lowri were the lucky couple who won the free wedding photography contest that I recently hosted with VeVi Photography. Their wedding was held at Ocean Kave in Devon, which proved to be the perfect spot for their family-centric, colourful chaos wedding!

Lowri told me all about the amazing day. “We are still floating, after the incredible day that was our happy ending. We have both gone through a lot of painful times to get to it which made it all the more special. I had gone through a very acrimonious divorce and moved to Devon, to heal by the sea, near where I grew up. Gradually colour and happiness began to return to my life and once I decided to dip my toe in the water of dating I met Lee!”

“As soon as we got engaged we knew we wanted this to be a celebration of all the amazing close friends and family who had supported us both”, she continued. “We also knew we wanted nothing to be impersonal or super traditional. We both wanted to get married by the sea but finding a venue that would let us have our wedding our way seemed impossible. Then I stumbled across Ocean Kave and we booked it the day we saw it even though at this point the reception room wasn’t even built! We loved it because they said we could really personalise the space. They suggested we got married in the kave (yes it’s an actual cave) at twilight, having kicked off the party at 2pm, which sounded great to us. We loved that we got to enjoy the fun we had planned first, and it removed formality.”

Waterfront Garden Wedding: Mallory & Euan

Jonas Seaman _1087

Mallory and Euan’s wedding was held in the bride’s Grandparent’s house in Seattle. They had the ceremony in the front garden, overlooking the ocean, and the reception in the back! “I would say the biggest thing that defined our wedding was he fact that although we live in London, we decided to have the wedding in my hometown, Seattle”, Mallory began. “Ever present in our minds were the constraints of logistics, timing and budget. We both arrived in Seattle three weeks before the wedding for a marathon of final preparations, crafting and trying to squeeze in quality time with all the amazing friends and family who helped to keep us sane.”

“I have to say our wedding (like our relationship come to think of it – we met on a website that matches people based on music they listen to) was an internet baby. I can’t begin to add up the countless hours I spent scouring the web for vendors, DIY ideas and how to locally source them. It wasn’t all stress, however, as we were so lucky to have the rare opportunity to surround ourselves with the people we love and that we had friends and family willing to fly across the world, from as far as Australia (where Euan is from), Hong Kong and London to join us for the big day.”
