A Vintage Shoot with Lucy Ledger Designs

If you’re a regular reader of Rock n Roll Bride I’m sure you’ll already be aware of the amazing Emma Case (she shot the image that I’m currently using as my blog header/my ‘Punk Rock n Roll Bride’ shoot) and Lucy Ledger Designs. Lucy makes gorgeously creative vintage-inspired stationary (I’ve also been lucky enough to feature her before as well as meet her in actual real life!) After Lucy saw Emma’s work on Rock n Roll Bride she got in touch asking if they could get together to do a promotional shoot for her vintage stationary company. Hello!? Match made in vintage Rock n Roll heaven or what!?

“A few months ago I was reading your blog and I stumbled across Emma Case and I fell immediately in love with her style of photography” Lucy told me. “It was about that time when I was looking for a unique way to showcase my wedding collection at exhibitions because I felt that Stationery stands were a little samey and unimaginative. I really wanted my brandto stand out and wow people and that’s when I got the idea of asking Emma to do some publicity shots for me. As we exchanged emails we thought it would be fun to incorporate a ‘rock the dress’ style shoot in with it – any excuse to wear my wedding dress (Maggie Sottero ‘Ireland’) again! I got married in the Winter so I thought it would be fab to try the dress in a totally different season and accessorize it differently to create a fresh new ‘look’ that reflected my brand – Rustic and a little bit Boho! So I thought it would be fun to pair it with my fave pair of cowboy style boots! Now I needed accessories. I have met so many amazing suppliers over the last 6 months I thought it might be nice to bring some together for the product shots and to help with my accessories. I approached various different vendors that I admired and was overwhelmed with the response – the generosity of everyone donating products to the shoot was amazing.”

THIS is What it’s All About – Forget the Details & the ‘Blog-Worthy Wedding’ Obsession

There is always a lot of chatter around blog land about details details details. Photographers are obsessed with getting couples with detail-heavy weddings so that the blogs and magazine will want to feature them. While this is true (after all wedding blogs and mags are primarily read by brides-to-be who want to see weddings with ideas they can steal for their own big day) do you ever think that this obsession to have a ‘blog-worthy’ detail heavy wedding might be a little excessive?

I’m not one to slag aaaanybody’s wedding off but I do see some weddings circulating around blog land that just seem so…well…contrived. Like a circus almost. Like a made-for-blogs-wedding-circus. The results are pretty much always gorgeous and inspiring but do you ever look at weddings like that and feel depressed or inadequate about your own wedding?

I wonder sometimes if a lot of us have actually forgotten the whole point of the wedding in the first place. Two people, in love standing there saying “I Do”. That’s it. That’s what’s important. Lets not forget that.

A Beautiful Elopement

I love a good elopement story. I bet sometimes when the pressure of all this wedding planning rubbish really gets to you that the thought of it is a pretty attractive one huh? Well an elopement can be beautiful, meaningful and gorgeous – it’s not just all running off to Vegas and getting married by Elvis.

Sarah & Travis decided that elopement was for them as they wanted their wedding to be on their own terms – they wanted to do it their own way. The pair live Seattle but they hopped on a float plan to Canada to elope. Their photographers, Emmy & Aaron of E/A Photography, told me “When they called us they told us they wanted something different and sexy for their images so we really wanted to capture the emotion of their love in the images. We did the shoot in Bastion Square in downtown Victoria and then at the old E&N railway roundhouse.  Right around the corner from the roundhouse is a bunch of condo developments and in the middle is a little hillside exploding in wildflowers – perfect spot for a champagne picnic! These two are total sweet hearts and so crazy about each other.  We barely had to say a word they were just so into each other.  We love their story of meeting at a wedding and just knowing they were meant to be together. ”

So gorgeous!

A Whimsical, Dreamy & Vintage Engagement

Edgy, retro, stylised. Athena & Branden’s gorgeous vintage toned engagement session took place in San Francisco. They used a red balloon, a vintage suitcase, a fabulous old car, a deserted barn and wildflowers to create this really whimsical, dreamy setting and overall look.

Pinkness & Tattoos

“I thought you might like Sophie & Jonny’s engagement shoot”  Marianne Taylor wrote, “as there is pinkness and tattoos involved.” Well looks like she was right! Oh yes I do like. The shoot took place in Green Park and Marylebone, London. The couple are getting married in September in a 1950’s, burlesque  and black & white bash and I’m pretty sure I’m going to love that too. I can’t wait to feature it already!
