Steampunk and Funfair Wedding

steampunk funfair wedding at a museum (46)

Jody always wanted a steampunk themed wedding, but their theme really came to life when they booked their venue. It came complete with a funfair! “When it came to planning our wedding there were very few surprises for anyone who knew us”, Jody began. “I have never been one for anything traditional and after 12 years of catering weddings James did not want anything traditional either.”

“Our starting point was to find a venue so I listed every wedding venue in Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales and started crossing them off if they did not fit our criteria of size, budget and quirkiness. We ended up with six venues that were slightly unusual and visited them all. The last one (which was my secretly favourite) was The Ironbridge Gorge Museums. They had so many choices of areas and rooms that we could use for the ceremony and for the reception. We went for The Covered Bays for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, and Blists Hill Victorian Town for the reception. The fact the latter has a fairground sealed the deal for James!”

“For me it was a no-brainer to have a Steampunk themed wedding,” she continued. “I am a huge fan of steampunk and a complete science fiction nerd, and we both love museums, so the idea of having a steampunk themed wedding at the home of the Industrial Revolution made me just a little bit excited! We actively encouraged all our guests to dress up and extended the dress code to cover Victorian and gothic for those who weren’t comfortable with going full steampunk. We also built up a list of people and companies providing costume hire, hat making and dress making services to pass on to everyone and links to websites for inspiration.”

Handmade and Eclectic Wedding in Brecon Beacons

SianNathanAssassynation-10669

Sian and Nathan’s wedding was a celebration of ‘them’. They wanted to put their own spin on everything so they handmade all the decorations for the reception, had their dog in attendance and, just for fun, had little Lego men on the groom’s buttonholes!

“We met in February 2009 and spent our first date playing Guess Who and chatting about our mutual love of Spaced, which 5 years later inspired the name of our miniature schnauzer Colin!” wrote the bride. “Colin was always going to be a part of our wedding as he’s such a big part of our lives (although we heard rumours that he snored through the ceremony!)”

“We didn’t exactly know what we wanted our wedding to be like at first, but we knew what we didn’t want, so we tried to steer clear of traditional ‘wedding’ styles by reading Rock n Roll Bride and scouring Pinterest for inspiration. We pretty much just chose things that we loved so we had quite a mix of ‘styles’ or ‘themes’. The Lego (Nathan’s favourite thing), the day of the dead cake toppers, and the wristbands (my hen was at a festival).”

Super Budget, Totally Kick Ass Alice in Wonderland Wedding

KayleeJakeAssassynation-10718

There must be something in the water because I’ve now featured three brides with blue hair in the past week. Well, it is the best hair colour after all!

The reason I fell in love with this wedding has nothing to do with Kaylee’s tresses though, and everything to do with the fact that they had the most kick ass day, on a minuscule budget. I love sharing weddings like this because they prove that it is completely possible to have an awesome wedding without spending a fortune. You just have to prioritise what you really want (in Kaylee and Jake’s case their only big expense was the photography) and be smart about where you get everything else. The bride found her wedding dress in a vintage store for £20 for example!!

“We set out to have a vintage theme which mixed with our love of all things crazy turned into a mad hatter’s tea party”, began Kaylee. “We wanted the wedding to reflect us an also make our friends and family all feel at ease. From the beginning we both knew that we really did not want any part of the day to be formal.”

Genuinely Terrifying Halloween Wedding Shoot

SassterclassAssassynation-10031

OK, so I told you my second Halloween inspired shoot of the day was worth the wait… now do you believe me!? Shot by the EPIC Sassy of Assassynation at a workshop she put on recently, this is a Halloween shoot like no other! Some of these shots are genuinely terrifying.

SassterclassAssassynation-10035

“I put together a styled shoot as part of my workshop, the Sassterclass. My styled shoots always tend to be out of the ordinary… something a bit different to your standard wedding stuff. Mainly I love doing them just for fun, and to push people out of their comfort zone a bit. Each attendee gets time to direct and shoot the couple so that they can then introduce their own creativity and style.”

Skulls and Tattoos on Friday 13th: Nic & Dan

NicDanAssassynation-10713

Nic and Dan were married on Friday 13th July at 13.00 at St John the Evangelist Church in Brigg. The day started with them both getting ’13’ tattoos and ended with a pub reception at The Exchange Coach House. Nic didn’t want a traditional dress, so she wore a black one lined with skull fabric! Skulls were a recurring theme throughout the day, and were also on her custom Converse,  their cake, and the DIY bunting that decorated the venue.

“It’s always been an aim of Dan to get a 13 tattoo on Friday the 13th so we decided that we would do this on our wedding day!” Nic began. “The two best men, and one of their wives also got ‘13’s to remember the day… as did our photographer Sassy! We also chose to meet at the pub for a pint before going to the church too. This was a very wise choice, I was really relaxed by the time I had to go and get married!”

Warm and Summery Bohemian Wedding: Rachel & David

RachelDavidAssassynation-11006

Summer brides take note! You are going to looooove Rachel and David’s amazing wedding which took place this May. They went down the DIY route for nearly everything and added personal touches wherever they could.

“Taking on a lot of DIY for your wedding can seem daunting and time consuming”, explained Rachel. “It also might end up stressing you out a little bit, but you should DEFINITELY try and get some bits in there that you have done yourself. You will feel so proud when you see everything set up with all those personal touches you spent time on,  and people DO notice. We had so many compliments on some of the little touches we put in on the day with our table numbers, cards and wishing tree.”

RachelDavidAssassynation-10318

“We started off our planning by both knowing very specifically what we wanted with individual aspects”, she continued. “For example, I knew I wanted Sassy to photograph our day, and I knew I wanted to design my own dress. For David the most important thing was giving everyone a good meal.”
