A Post Apocalyptic Viking Wedding Re-Shoot

After not getting the photos they really hoped for at their actual wedding, Anastasia and Kenny decided to do a shoot to re-stage their day to do just that! They chose Moreton Corbet Castle as the location, Fran Hansen to do the most insane (in a good way) viking inspired makeup on them both and Birgitta Zoutman to take the photos.

“For our ceremony we wanted something from the heart and soul, and we were drawn to waterfalls for the handfasting location”, Anastasia explained. “Our re-shoot was an amalgamation of themes that we both loved, merging the possibility of a post-apocalyptic dystopian future with Norse / Celtic heritage. The idea that if society crumbles, once the electricity fades, the last battery runs flat and the gods of technology abandoned us. Mankind will turn again to the old gods for guidance and protection.”

Viking Meets Rockabilly London Wedding

Dave and Jana are not massively into the concept of marriage, in fact Jana had said all her life that she would never get married! Fast forward to 2018 though, and after meeting Dave on Instagram and bonding over their love of cooking and tattoos, the couple knew they would stay together for the rest of their lives and found themselves wanting to express it somehow.

They knew they never wanted a huge ‘white’ wedding, and set a date shortly after getting engaged for a Friday in September, as it’s the day that the Vikings would’ve traditionally married on. They also decided that their day should be an equal mix of both the bride and the grooms interests, so their viking rockabilly wedding theme was born!

Gothic, Halloween & Harry Potter Themed Wedding in a Castle!

Marc and Chloe have always been interested in gothic style and an alternative lifestyle – meeting at a metal gig in 2012 – so it was never a question that they’d have anything other than a wedding that reflected their true selves!

Their venue, an actual real-life castle, was the perfect setting for their gothic and Halloween inspired day. Hedingham Castle in Essex is a nine-hundred year old Norman castle, full of medieval splendour. They had their ceremony within the castle itself, before moving to a marquee for their reception.

A Mermaid & A Viking Get Married: Rainbows, Sunflowers & Vintage Hot Air Balloons

Emma and Rayner’s wedding theme started out as ‘vintage sunflowers and hot air balloons’, which quickly expanded to include rainbows too. The whole wedding was DIY and was full of activities for their guests and little nods to all the different things they both love.

“We both love vintage styling,” began Emma, “and I particularly love vintage clothes and shoes. We both collect antique curios and oddities. The hot air balloon aspect is in reference to our late son, seeing them as a link to the skies. The rainbows developed naturally through the multi-colour of the air balloons and also linked into our rainbow baby, Eric. Almost every guest commented on the uniqueness of having it all DIY and what a showing of our personalities it was. We wanted to incorporate different aspects of our personalities everywhere so we had little glints of different things throughout the day. For instance, we are both really into history so the table names were historical characters.”

Their vast range of activities included outdoor games, leaving messages for the bride and groom, and an I Spy game with prizes. “The wedding was mainly outdoors and we had a range of outdoor games like quoits, basketball and giant connect four. We had two tables with activities on, including a thumbprint guestbook made to look like balloons floating a hot air basket, a teapot with notelets for people to write us messages for us to read on our first anniversary and advice cards with spaces for a little doodle of the writer. This proved to be hilarious when we read them back! We had ‘I Spy’ cards was a game with lists of things for people to photograph and prizes for the best entries.”

Norse Pagan & Viking Themed Wedding

I am probably the only person I know not totally watching Game of Thrones but after hearing almost everyone I know raving about it, I’m determined to find some time to give it a go!  I know 99% of the population are all-out obsessed right now, so when Danielle and Donovan’s VIKING THEMED WEDDING landed in my inbox I knew I had to share it immediately! The best part of the whole thing? They pulled the entire wedding off for just $6000!

The wedding took place at the home of one of their friends in Lummi Island, WA. The bride told us all about their day. “We went for a Norse pagan and viking theme. Our families are Norwegian and German, we did it as a shout out to our ancestors. After all, they’re the reason we’re here! One thing we did really differently was that we had our reception before the ceremony. Risky, but it allowed us to play with fire instead of flowers!”

A Viking and a Gypsy Got Married

Meg and Jeremiah’s wedding had a gypsy and viking theme with a couple of special guests – a baby goat and their unborn child! They were married on a friend’s farm in June.

“I have always loved the romanticised version of gypsies and growing up my dad would always say I have gypsy blood”, explained Meg. “Jeremiah’s background is Acadian and Norwegian and we wanted to bring both of these things into our wedding. This was really a natural theme for us.”

“The main inspiration was the Solstice and Full Moon together. After picking the date based on those two things, everything just fell into place. We had tarot cards on all the tables and when it was time to eat, the MC randomly drew cards to see which table went first.”

“About one year before the wedding I started brewing mead, which is viking honey wine”, she said. “I wanted to have it on all the tables, instead of normal wine. I bought glass bottles from Ikea, and had an artist friend draw up a label that said ‘Gypsy Tears’ and the wedding date with a sad gypsy on it. I asked my cousin to make me a carnival cutout for people to take photos with that looked like a giant tarot card.”
