Horror Themed Ohio Wedding with a $3000 Budget

Heather and Timmy’s outdoor Ohio wedding was horror-film inspired, even down to the date – 27th May was Vincent Price aka the King of Horror’s, birthday!

Although they met through a mutual friend when they were younger, it was only later on that Heather and Timmy found each other. Their connection wasn’t during the happiest time in either of their lives –  Heather was dealing with her son being hospitalised by a poisonous spider bite and Timmy’s girlfriend had just passed away – but they were able to help and comfort each other through it. Heather explains,”Timmy was there to help me go through very tough times and I knew instantly that I wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. Timmy’s not only my best friend and the love of my life – at the same time he saved it.”

Inspired by Edgar Allen Poe, Vincent Price and the Bride of Frankenstein, their colour scheme was deep reds and blacks. Heather’s wedding dress  featured a coloured lace-up corset back for a splash of colour, and was a bargain at $75 on eBay, as were Timmy’s suit and the bridesmaid dresses.

Gothic Fairytale Wedding Inspired by Tim Burton

Amy and Andy had a very clear vision for their October wedding: Halloween and Tim Burton. They wanted to use their day to celebrate his magical films that they both grew up with and loved dearly. They also touched upon Halloween by using orange, purple, black and silver in their decorations.

They were married on October 21st (as close to Halloween as they could get) at St Augustine’s in Westgate-On-Sea near Margate. “Halloween has always been a huge yearly event for our family and always one of the happiest so we wanted to choose to celebrate every anniversary as close to it as possible!” Amy began. “For our venue, we wanted somewhere that was a blank canvas and we were delighted to find that St Augustine’s had everything we wanted. It was filled with Victorian and gothic décor with rich reds and gold. They also have a stunning chapel within the building. The gardens were filled with willow trees and made a beautiful backdrop for our photographs.”

“After discovering Rock n Roll Bride magazine we stocked up on every issue to build our confidence and expand our knowledge down the ‘non-traditional’ route to creating a wedding. We raided TK Maxx’s Halloween section the year before. We mixed all of this with an enchanted forest feel to give it a sparkly Halloween base in which we could build upon. Everything we made incorporated some of the smallest additions from the characters and script to make our guests feel like they had entered in to Halloween Town.”

Tim Burton Inspired Wedding in Italy

Patrizio and Roberto met on an online. Although they lived 250 miles apart, after a few weeks of chatting they decided to meet up and the rest, as the old cliche goes, is history. They were inspired by Tim Burton for their wedding, which took place in Asti, north Italy. They took ideas from his films for the wedding decor including their table centrepieces, stationery design and the cake.

“We did all the decorations by ourselves all following our Tim Burton theme”, they explained. “On our wedding invitations we placed Victor Van Dort (The Corpse Bride) proposing to Jack Skellington (Nightmare before Christmas). Below you could see desperate loves Emily and Sally. On our wedding bunting there is the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland saying that he was late for our reception. On table chart we placed Absolem asking ‘Whoooo are yoooou?'”

Vintage Circus Inspired Costume & Reenactment Wedding

Fay and Michael met in the most bizarre way – they were set up by Michael’s ex-wife! After 10 years together they decided to get married and wanted their wedding to be an eclectic mix, representing all of their passions and loves. They included ballroom dance, costume, circus, art, festival, sugar skulls, Tim Burton and vintage influences. They also wanted it to be an opportunity to show off their creative artistic flair to their family and friends.

“We were inspired by everything we loved, ranging from Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride to vintage circus’ with hot air balloons”, Fay explained. “As reenactors we spend a lot of time during the summer camping in fields, fighting on battlefields and then socialising with friends in the beer tent. We wanted to share the atmosphere and feelings we get at reenactment shows with all our friends and family. We didn’t want to be constrained with a ‘reenactment wedding’ though, so we decided to bring lots of things we loved into the day.”

Creepy Gothic Wedding

Creepy Gothic Wedding (37)

The inspiration for Laura and Martyn’s wedding came from their mutual love of tattoos, skulls, Halloween, metal and rock music, and Tim Burton. They wanted their wedding to be modern, but also gothic and romantic with creepy aspects!

“We have always liked creepy things so for our wedding we wanted to take something creepy and turn it into something beautiful,” explained Laura. “We searched through Pinterest for inspiration but we could never see anything that we really liked. We found it hard at first because kept worrying about what other people would think, rather than focusing on it being our wedding. We were worried people would think it was horrible and find it too creepy if we had skulls everywhere.”

“We had a lot of dark colours rather than the traditional white or ivory which a lot of people stick to. My make up was quite bold too. We also didn’t have any speeches as we really didn’t want to put any stress on my dad and Martyn who don’t like public speaking. Our aim from the beginning was to just get married, eat, drink and party! We sure did we party… until 3:30am!”
