Doctor Who & Harry Potter Geeky Fandom Wedding

Choosing their favourite fantasy worlds for their wedding was the obvious theme choice for Jenn and Adam, who were married in Auckland, New Zealand in November. The bride loves Harry Potter, and the groom, Doctor Who!

“Our wedding was inspired by our interests”, said Jenn. “We wanted something unique to us and that’s how we decided on a geeky themed wedding. He’s a Whovian and I’m a Potterhead. We fully immersed our personalities into it rather than going for the usual wedding decorations.”

The bride and her bridesmaids carried paper flower bouquets made from Harry Potter and Doctor Who books, their seating chart was the wizarding world map and there was Doctor Who and Harry Potter bunting everywhere. The centrepieces were made from POP characters, paper confetti, candles and tiles. There where hand made golden snitches hanging from the ceiling. As you can see, they really went all-out with the theme!

Festival Wedding with Campervans, Roald Dahl and a TARDIS!

Manda and Harry didn’t have one specific wedding theme, they brought lots of things that they love into the mix. “Our wedding was a combination of VW Campervans, the 1950s, festivals, geekiness, colour, food, foxes and a hearty dollop of glitter!” said the bride, “We also wanted to use local produce, local flowers, and local vendors because we love Somerset and wanted to celebrate it too.”

The couple were married at Glastonbury’s town hall, “The main hall where our ceremony was held was so beautiful it didn’t need any extra decor. There were also all these amazing hanging baskets surrounding the entrance: when we left the building as Mr and Mrs Steele we felt like we were in a film.”

The reception was held in a circus inspired striped marquee next to a big pink house, “The house was filled with quirky furnishings and the chequerboard floor hallway to our rooms gave off a very ‘Alice in Wonderland’ vibe” she continued. “I love Volkswagens ALMOST us much as I love Harry (maybe more when he’s out of earshot), so a VW Campervan presence at the wedding was a must. When our guests arrived at the reception they were greeted by the Cream Tease Bus serving massive homemade scones and damn fine coffee. Later, we had a second VW Campervan serving ice cream.”

Intimate Doctor Who Wedding

Sean and Kath were married in Maidstone, Kent. The biggest influence for their wedding was their mutual love of Doctor Who! Kath wore a dalek belt made for her by The Couture Company (who also made her stunning dress and headpiece), and their cake had a Tardis on top!

“Doctor Who was the main influence for our wedding, though we did try to keep it a bit tongue-in-cheek”, Kath explained. “I knitted various projects throughout the wedding planning but they had absolutely nothing to do with the wedding and everything to do with my lack of an attention span!”

DIY Doctor Who Wedding

Doctor Who wedding (27)

Attention Whovians! You are going to LOVE what I have to share with you today. We’ve all seen Doctor Who themed weddings before, but I’m going to put my stake in the ground and say I think this is the best one ever. Not only did Leila and Scott only spend $5000 on their wedding, the attention to detail is totally amazing. Check out that blue wedding cake!

“Our wedding was a family friendly Doctor Who wedding!”, began the bride. “Our family
LOVES Doctor Who and we thought that would be a really fun theme that would be
special to ourselves and our kids. We’ve never been terribly traditional people, so we
wanted to do something that was very us and not necessarily what was expected.
During the ceremony, we played various songs from Doctor Who. The Long Song was used for the bridal party processional and the TV theme song for when I walked down the aisle.”

A DIY Whovian Wedding: Lua & Pedro

Luana & Pedro - Botafogo, RJ | Junho.2014 |

Being huge Doctor Who fans, Lua and Pedro knew as soon as they were engaged what their wedding theme would be. The celebration was held at Solar das Palmeiras in Rio de Janeiro.”

“As we are both geeks and great fans of TV shows, we thought our wedding couldn’t be a regular wedding”, began the bride. “We had to choose something that would look like us. We chose the British TV show Doctor Who for our inspiration. With the help of Pinterest, we collected ideas of how to make our special night even more special. I tried to spend as much time as I could making props and decoration items we could use, and the result was awesome. People at the wedding couldn’t really tell it was a themed wedding, but everybody agreed it looked just like us. They said they felt as if they were celebrating at our own house.

When my favourite vintage wedding dress shop launched their own, self designed, collection based on vintage styles (but able to be sized up to a Uk size 22!) I was super excited to be able to host an exclusive competition for one of my readers to win one. Alongside Fur Coat No Knickers founders and designers Emma and Laura, I read every single entry, eventually picking the gorgeous Diana as our winner.  Her story touched our hearts and we were all so honoured to be able to fulfil her dream to feel beautiful on her wedding day.

I am utterly thrilled to be sharing that wedding with you all today! It was held at Chester Zoo.

“Our wedding was us. It was just us”, Diana began. “It was the most laidback, chilled out event ever. Everyone commented on how impressed they were that we’d managed to instil a sense of ourselves through proceedings. Neither of us wanted a big fancy event. We just wanted to get married and have a kickass party and that’s what we did. The Doctor Who stuff was more me than Ben but I loved it and so did the kids.”
