The Julia Boggio Studios Grand Opening

Kat

May 7, 2010

Last Thursday I was lucky enough to be invited to the fancy pants grand opening of the Julia Boggio Studios in Wimbledon, London. Not only was it the very studio that Julia and I did my vintage boudoir shoot but I was able to meet a load of new people from the UK wedding industry as well as catch up with some old friends. I headed up to London with the lovely Lisa of Magpie Vintage. Before the party we paid a visit to our friends at Luella's Boudoir in Wimbledon who kitted us out with sparkles and shoes (Lisa nabbed some gorgeous Emmy shoes and I borrowed a beeeautiful Magpie Vintage headband - and yes I wanted to keep it!) We then all piled back in Lisa's car and made our way to Merton Abbey Mills where Julia's studio is located.

Elegant & Classy 1930s Inspired Boudoir Sesh

I don't feature a whole lot of boudoir on Rock n Roll Bride, not because I don't like it or approve or anything like that (hell, I did one!) But it's quite rare that I get sent boudoir submissions that have a Rock n Roll edge. A lot of what floats around the internet is all sexy, see-through underwear, airbrushed to perfection, lying on a messed up bed...page 3 inspired...you catch my drift. Anyway, when this session from Jessica Zais landed on my desk I saw none of that. Courtney showed up to her boudoir session ready to go with two vintage swimsuits (the black one belonged to her grandmother and was actually a lifeguard uniform - sexy!) The result is a classic, 1930's elegance that I just can't get enough of.

British Boudoir

This fabulous Boudoir/Pin up style shoot was set up by British photographer Shaneen Rosewarne Cox. "My Make up artist is fabulous at creating that seductive, lashtastic pin up look" She told me "She also styled the models hair and I loved how the retro bouncy curls turned out. Accessories are all mine and are mostly props from the studio. The STUNNING blue Manolo Blahnik shoes are actually my "something blue" from my own wedding day. All in all it was a really fun day full of bucks fizz, pearls, blue shoes and vogue magazine!! A perfect way to spend a Sunday in my opinion. "

Tasteful, Elegant & Edgy Boudoir

Kat

January 28, 2010

Prompted by my own soiree into the art as well as the fiery debate on the issue on Eastside Bride, I've been thinking about boudoir shoots a lot recently. So, it was almost certainly meant to be that I laid eyes on these perfect examples of tasteful boudoir on Kiss the Groom. Elegant, classy, edgy, ethereal and sexy all at the same time. Yes, I am definitely pro-boudoir...just as long as it's done right. Thanks to Elizabeth for allowing me to share these with you Credit: Elizabeth Messina Photography / Kiss the Groom

Deluxe Boudoir

The vintage boudoir style is everywhere right now and it really seems to be sparking people's imaginations! I love how different people perceive things in their own unique way... Obviously my recently shoot was miles away in style to this one sent to me the other day by Courtney Wilson, but the brief was the same - to create some stunning boudoir images with a vintage flair. Courtney told me all about her inspiration behind this shoot: There was an image from Destry Rides Again (1939) where Marlene Deitrich is posed oh-so-sensually in her deluxe boudoir. I saw this image and was completely inspired to theme a shoot around it (the black and white shot was my interpretation of the actual image). The model is my sister, Eva, and she was a very willing subject on a rainy day at my home. After ransacking the whole house, we pulled together our favorite vintage accessories and went to town! Eva wore all her own clothes and I styled the shoot myself. her amazing shoes were from Shoegasm in Manhattan. Thanks to Courtney for sharing her vision with us

Wow what an exciting weeks it's been so far. Not only are things hotting up (as ever) with the votes for the winners of the Kat Braman Free Photography Contest (if you haven't voted yet then go ahead and do it already!) but blog land exploded with excitement over my Vintage Boudoir shots with Julia Boggio. We knew they'd go down well but we never expected anything like the response we got. Thanks so much for everybody who commented on the blog, on twitter and on facebook. I read every single one and they all brought a smile to my face. Extra special thanks to all the other bloggers who took the time to write about and share the photos on their blogs already - Hot Pink Brides, Little White Book Blog, Charley Beard, Plans and Presents & Boho Wedding and Events.

Those who follow me on Twitter and Facebook will know I've had a rough few days of late. I've been letting things (or should I say certain people!) get to me and it must stop! Arrgh... so I apologise for that right now. However, in a much more positive vein, I am very excited to get going with this week's Thursday Treats as it always cheers me to share such internet wonderfulness with you all, my dear readers and loyal fans :P ♥ First off - erm..hello? How fabulous are the photos at the top of this post? It was taken by the amazingly fun, cool, quirky and chatty Leah McCormick who I was lucky enough to meet on a cold day in London just before Christmas. I took her for a walk around Soho and down Carnaby Street where she went nuts over the Christmas decorations. Well they are pretty gorgeous aren't they? ♥ 10 of the weirdest wedding invitations - I think they're all pretty damn cool actually!
