People always ask me what makes an ‘alternative wedding’. I think a lot of them assume that the label must only apply to the most ‘out-there’, wacky and crazy weddings and that it’s all jumping out of planes or all-out goth themed days. While, of course, I adore featuring those types of weddings, I also really love sharing the ones that just have a few personal, quirky touches. Just like Corbyn & Lucas’.
They were married in September at the
Belle Isle Conservatory in Detroit. “Our wedding was themed around Love and an indoor garden party. We also had lots of gold”, the bride said. “One of my favourite moments was our ‘first look’ where Lucas was blindfolded (so he didn’t actually see me before the ceremony). Just being able to hug him and have a quiet moment to hold each other, away from everyone and everything going on. It was a beautiful moment. Our ceremony, in the golden hour light in front of the conservatory was also amazing.”
“I would tell other couples to make sure you focus on things that are important to you”, she concluded. “It is your day and there are no rules. Make it YOUR day. ”

Historic Cemetery Wedding with the Bride Arriving in a Coffin: Kristen & Jo
March 26, 2013
It feels weird to start a real wedding post with a disclaimer of sorts but this is just one of those weddings that I share with a small sense of trepidation. Without wanting to sound like anybody's mother, let's just remember that this is two people's actual wedding day and their way of expressing their love. I am under no disillusion that parts of the wedding may well divide opinion, but as always, let's keep the comments constructive and remember what Rock n Roll Bride is all about...

Soya and Skip met in a rock club in Lincoln and after just a year of dating she proposed on 29th February! "From the beginning we knew we didn't want a traditional wedding", the bride began. "They are lovely and all, but they can really lack personality. We used things that we love to decorate. My favourite part of the whole day was the ceremony. It was emotional but with lots of light-hearted laughs. Our readings and vows summed us both up perfectly. We even had mention of our ever growing number of pet rats, Batman and Robin and a zombie apocalypse in our vows which were followed by a hand fasting."

An Intimate Australian Wedding & A Bride in Blue: Fiona & Andrew
August 17, 2012
Fiona & Andrew's DIY wedding in Victoria, Australia was themed around the things they love - vintage items, 1950s styling, cherries, hearts and flowers. They took these ideas as the starting point and built their wedding around them. "We wanted the guests to be able to feel as much a part of the day as possible, hence the small guest list of only 45 and the extended weekend long celebration", began the bride. "We made a lot ourselves. I made a ring cushion from the same fabric as my sash/bolero and a piece of fabric from my mum's wedding dress. We had a ring warming ceremony before I arrived where the cushion was brought around my my 5 year old nephew, Oliver, and guests where asked to send a blessing our way."
