Bridal Shoot/Trash The Dress

The Eyes Have It

Kat

August 11, 2009

Erm....woaaaah... I have lost all words right now. Those fake blue eyelashes really make this shoot for me - 80's-tastic baby! You have got to love these right? The shoot can be described as my attempt to take a whimsical, expect the unexpected, approach to what we normally think of when we think of a typical bride, what she should be wearing and what she should look like, etc. For example we had this gown that looks like it was straight from the 80's contrasted with perfectly styled up hair. The bride is fully made-up but in crazy colours that you would usually only see on a cabaret dancer. Even the backgrounds we chose, sitting on a haystack, waiting alone on a bench....imagery that causes the viewer to double-take and basically cause a reaction whether it be a laugh, confusion, wonder - that's what we were aiming for! Magical Meghan

Kat

August 7, 2009

Yep, Meghan's trash the dress/bridal shoot pretty much rocks. She actually had the session over a year after she married JP because she really wanted to do something a bit more 'outthere' in her dress (which is gorgeous by the way and made by Demetrios.) Her natural skills and comfort in front of the camera combined with her glorious wedding dress and awesome personality made for one of the most enjoyable shoots I’ve ever done. We started out in downtown SD on the prowl for some graffiti, we lucked out when we found an old parking lot with a sweet car and bright graffiti. She was willing to try whatever we suggested with a smile on her face the entire time (like hold a sign on the side of the freeway…..Meghan, did I mention I love you? It’s true). After downtown, we went to Ruby’s Diner where her and JP had their first date…..I remember walking through the mall where everyone was staring at us, and I ask Meghan, “do you feel uncomfortable with all these people staring and pointing?” her answer? “I LOVE IT!” Which made me love her. After Ruby’s we headed to our house for some night shots, where Meghan displayed her magical powers (check out the last picture and you’ll totally understand). Meghan and JP, we had such a great time with you and I can’t wait until we hang out again very soon. In the meantime, I’ll be watching for you on America’s Next Top Model!!!!! Vintage Rural

Kat

August 3, 2009

Part three of Caroline Ghetes' modern vintage bridal sessions landed on my online lap this afternoon and it's a corker. This final installment has much more of a country feel - the shed, the field, the horses, the cowboy boots, the rustic, casual florals (made by Caroline herself!) - but that doesn't stop me from having a hell lotta love for them. The model's dress was supplied by etsy seller Lorimarsha (it's the same dress as used in the 'aviation' shoot) and her pink hairpiece was by Chamberry Cherry, who can also be found onEtsy. Clicky here for part one and two... Thanks to Caroline for sharing her newest work with us.

An Urban Fairytale

Kat

July 30, 2009

Hurrah! Part two of Caroline Ghetes' amazing vintage inspired bridal sessions is live! This second installment has a much more modern twist to it as Caroline wanted to show how vintage fashion can work in super modern, urban suroundings. She scoured Etsy for the majority of the gorgeous pieces to go in this shoot. The ever so popular 50's style tea dress was from ghmarketplace, the sparkly tulle veil was handmade with vintage material from the 1940's by Liaison, the pink and the peacock hairpieces were by Chamberry Cherry and finally the dramatic bouquet was actually made by Caroline herself. (Just in case you missed it, Part one is here) Thanks again to Caroline for sharing these with us. I am waiting with baited breath for the third and final installment!

Mischievous

Kat

July 27, 2009

I was lucky enough to meet both Eliza (the photographer) and Ly (the model) who sent me this trash the dress session to me a while back on a now rather infamously drunk night out in London! I can safely say the fun and frolics you see below perfectly reflecttheir slightly mischievous personalities. Isn't the shot with the sun coming down just phenomenal? ...and the deers are just amazing, you don't get this is California! (I knew there was a reason I lived in England after all) Credit: Eliza Claire

Suicidal Bride!?

Kat

July 22, 2009

I love this shoot and I love the inspirational Bride in her 'something blue' Doc Martins, but more than that I love the story that goes along with this set. Photographer Jennifer Williams explained: The highlight of the shoot has got to be being pulled over by the Kern County Sheriff! Heather and I took a few shots at a bridge. Little did we know what a scene it would cause. When I left Heather sitting at the bridge while I went to get the car (her shoes were cute but not so comfortable) people called in reporting a suicidal bride getting ready to jump! Lucky for me, the sheriff thought it was really funny. When I explained we were doing a photo shoot, and there was not a run away bride wasn't about to jump off the bridge, he sent us on our way.

Revival

Kat

July 21, 2009

Vintage cameras are all the rage right now. I've seen them used as props in various engagement and wedding day shoots. However, New Yorker Robert Christian Malmberg has taken it one step further, by reviving a photographic technique popular in the 19th Century. He uses is own Bellows camera and 'wet plate collodion' to create the effect you see below. His thinking is to make timeless images that contemporary Brides will love. Thanks so much to Robert for sharing his gorgeous and totally unique images. Credit: Robert Christian Malmberg

Candy Coloured Cuteness

Kat

July 11, 2009

Maria of Squaresville Studios has the kinda style I love - she adores candy coloured cuteness just like me. She ran a contest on her site entitled 'Bride with pink shoes rock' and Sally was the obvious winner as she wore pink Converse on her wedding day. Sally's gorgeous birdcage veil was made by Tara To The T, her make up was done by Holly Evans and Marlena Isbell was responsible for her faaaabulous 50's style hair do. I am also going a little bit nuts over those cotton candy walls! Thanks to Maria of from Squaresville Studios for sending me these sunny, neon , happy happy shots. Credit: Squaresville Studios

I Like Blog Stalkers!

Kat

June 24, 2009

Okey dokey I think this most be the last post for today because I appear to have gone a little overboard in the old blogging department plus I am secretly hoping the hubby will be taking me out on a date tonight! These are an amazing set to round the day off with however as I got the cutest email accompanying the submission from Bride-to-be Soila Elena, who said: Hello Kat Let me start off by saying I'm your biggest blog stalker. I recently had my bridal session done with the coolest Angela D Photography- I told her what I wanted and showed her some of your posts and we went to work- I'll be married soon and so I asked her not to post any with my face and she did a great job! I hope you like them -because I loved them and it was because of you, so thank you very much. Now come on, am I gonna really say no to that!? See you all tomorrow you gorgeous creatures, and if you're in California, be sure to enter the Tinywater Photography contest!
