Book-Inspired Greenhouse Wedding in the 42°C Melbourne Heat

Ella and Michael’s wedding is the wedding of plant lovers’ dreams. Their venue was the Glasshaus, a plant nursery based in Melbourne, and their styling was simple, green and nerdy – in the most breathtaking way! It’s so beautiful I’d even brave the 42°C heat (yep, celsius, you read that right; Ella and Michael got married on the hottest day of the year) to be there, and that’s coming from a girl who complains at 22 degrees. But enough about me – let’s talk about this STUNNER of a big day, shall we?

The couple had decided early on that they wanted a big dinner party with food and drink as their focus. Unusually, Ella and Michael chose their caterer before they chose anything else, then working with The Farm Café and their wedding planner Amelia to find a venue that was suitable.

Minimalist & Tropical Maui Beach Wedding

Underground rapper and producer, Eli (Eligh) married Jessica at the Aloha Aku Inn & Suites in Maui, a place they have loved and visited together for a long time. They wanted a simple and beautiful ceremony followed by a low key celebration with their nearest and dearest.

“The inspiration for our wedding was just to get married in our favourite place and have everyone there with us”, said Jessica. “We decided to rent out Aloha Aku for both of our immediate families and stay there with them prior to and a couple days after the wedding. It was really fun to walk out onto the lawn where we stayed and basically get married in the backyard. It felt more like our home for the week than a venue. Spending the first couple of days with our family as a married couple, prior to honeymooning, was such a unique experience and I’m so glad we did it that way.”

The bride wore a stunning, yet simple, dress which wasn’t a wedding dress at all. “My dress was from Camille La Vie and I found it for $200 dress in the evening gown section. I knew I wanted something simple and beach appropriate – it even had a train. Wedding dresses at Camille la vie started at $800 so this was a total bargain.” Eli kept his outfit simple too with trousers from Topman, a shirt from Urban Outfitters and Reef sandals.

Minimal Cat-Themed Wedding in Philadelphia

Simple and Minimal Wedding in Philadelphia (11)

Leila and Dan’s Philadelphia wedding was simple, minimal and took place in an urban loft space, Power Plant Productions.

“We wanted to make our wedding have more of a party feel instead of a stuffy affair”, said the bride. “I didn’t really have any inspiration as such, I don’t use Pinterest, so I just found things I liked! We had our reception cocktail style with a mix of high tops and low tables and three food stations (a mac and cheese bar, a build your own taco satiation and an Thai food station). There was no assigned seating either so people could move around however they saw fit.”

They were married in front of a homemade backdrop and the venue was decorated throughout with simple mason jar and baby’s breath centrepieces. They also had a slight cat theme with their cake topper and some of the decor.

An Anti-Cookie Cutter and Unscripted Wedding

Melissa and Matt wanted a day that was the ‘anti-cookie cutter’ wedding. With vintage and bohemian influences but in a modern setting, their November celebration was relaxed and intimate with a small guest list.

“We began the day with a non-religious, unscripted ceremony which was very short and sweet” explained Melissa. “We didn’t have a rehearsal, we just organically said our vows in front of our favourite people, then went right on to cocktails! We had the open bar set up outside in the garden and the weather was perfect.”

Low-Pressure & Intimate Colourful Celebration

Allison and Cameron’s colourful wedding took place in Austin in October. They wanted a simple, low-pressure day, with minimal stress. “Cameron and I honestly never wanted a wedding”, said the bride. “I get anxiety when I throw an event, and I am always worried if everyone else is having a good time that I forget to have a good time myself. However, since our mothers would never forgive us if we didn’t have one, we decided to do it our way. We wanted something low-stress and intimate, where we could mingle with all the guests and have a great time.”

The Sunday wedding was a morning and early afternoon event, meaning they served brunch and the whole thing was over by the evening. “Having a brunch wedding felt unique and alternative”, she explained. “Brunch may be the most popular meal in Austin, TX, and our wedding meal was no different. It was fun day drinking with our closest friends at a long family-style table. Our friends and family cheered us off on a ‘Just Married’ pedicab, and we took a brisk ride around downtown Austin taking it all it. After the reception we met up with some friends at our Airbnb across the street! Early in the evening Cam and I were able to split off and have a romantic dinner together and recall all of our favourite parts of the day! It was a really special moment.”

Simple Yet Elegant Purple & Grey Wedding

Simple Yet Elegant Purple & Grey Wedding (24)

Amanda and Jake were married in January. “The theme of the wedding was simple and elegant”, explained the bride, “and our colours were purple and grey. The inspiration was based on the colours I love and just basically how I always pictured my dream wedding! I wanted it to be at night, to be romantic and for there to be lots of lights.”

The ceremony was held at a local church. “The ceremony was beautiful!” Amanda continued. “One of the best moments was when Jake said ‘I do’ because he not only said it to me but also to my two little girls. That was really significant. My favourite parts of the wedding was hearing his vows, listening to the speeches from the people we love, and dancing with my friends and family.”
