A Johanna Johnson Bride – Belinda & Joel’s Rainy Australian Wedding

Kat

May 13, 2011

Belinda & Joel's wedding is exciting to me for a number of reasons. Not only was it sent over by one of my favourite dress designers, Johanna Johnson (Belinda's dress and headband were by the designer) but the wedding was shot by photographer Marcus Bell, who has just been included in the top 10 photographers in the world by American Photo Magazine (alongside a load of other Rock n Roll Bride favourites including Jonas Peterson, The Image is Found and Our Labor of Love.) So needless to say, this wedding is a crash! bang! smack-you-between-the-eyes-with-awesomeness of a wedding. "Once I found my beautiful Johanna Johnson dress the inspiration came from there!" the bride told me. "I didn’t want to be a traditional bride with the big dress and veil or have my bridesmaids in all the same dress, I wanted the wedding to be unique and individual – to be me."

Lori & Nick’s Boundary-Breaking Day After Sesh.

Kat

February 18, 2011

Lori & Nick were married in Hawaii in November and weren't 100% happy with their professional photographs. While they were lovely, they didn’t have any pictures of Lori getting ready, and very few pictures that broke any boundaries. Lori loved her dress, and she really wanted to have some more shots taken that she could really treasure, "That’s when they found me," explained photographer Sarah Maren. "We got together at the lovely Citizen Hotel in downtown Sacramento where Lori and her Mom had spent a girls night. We were able to get pictures of Lori’s Mom helping her get dressed (something she missed out on doing at the actual wedding because she was busy setting up the ceremony space.) We then braved the cold and rain and rocked out an incredible portrait session of this beautiful couple. We ended things under the freeway with Lori lying next to a drainage grate. It was perfect!"

Sammy & Ian’s Modern Romantic London Wedding

Kat

November 16, 2010

Sammy & Ian went for a quirky, modern and London theme for their Soho wedding. Being a costume designer, the bride made her own dress based on the late 50's early 60's silhouette of tight and knee length, with a bit of Vivienne Westwood influence. "It was made from red silk Dupion, and the corset was white duchess satin with red silk ribbon stripes sewn on top," she explained. Sammy also designed Ian's unusual and fabulous suit which was made out of venetian wool and was based on a 1960's design.

Sweethearts in South Africa

Kat

April 16, 2010

This is my second South African post within so many days and I'm pretty sure you're gonna dig this one just as much as the last. The lovely Laura actually found photographer Kat Forsyth through a post on Rock n Roll Bride so this session is even a little extra special to me. The Australian bride-to-be will be marrying her South African sweetheart Gustav (who she met in the UK - boy are these guys travelled!) back in Australia later this year and judging from the coolness of this engagement session, I just know their wedding is going to be Rock n Roll Bride worthy!

English Country Garden

Kat

March 26, 2010

Jennifer & Ian's vintage garden engagement shoot is just so British - I love it! The slightly damp weather, the funky patterned wellies, the wheelbarrow and the greenhouse... I'm very much looking forward to seeing this couple's vintage themed Scottish wedding in May and I hope photographer Fjona will be sending the images straight over to me afterwards - think VW van, Scottish tablet in jam jars, old fashioned luggage labels and more wellies. It's going to be awesome I'm sure!

We Love Rain

Kat

December 28, 2009

Alissa & Phil were such an amazing couple to get to know and we were instantly stoked to shoot their wedding. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the church, it was raining, and there was no end in sight. Now, usually at this time we are looking for other inside options to do the photos, but rain didn’t phase Alissa or the bridal party AT ALL. So we headed out to a super cool location we found just a few days before and completely rocked it. I also just have to say, usually when a photographer asks a bride, “Hey, there’s a sunflower field over there that would be awesome for pictures, but there is a ditch you have to hop, and it’s kind of muddy, and you’ve been standing out in the rain for an hour, and you have your wedding dress on, and it’s freezing” there is an awkward silence and usually a “NO” at the end. But, again they proved me wrong and were up for absolutely everything we said. Alissa + Phil + Rain + Cold = Awesomeness Thanks to Brian & Amy for sharing this rainy and fun shoot with us today

Funky, Farm Wedding

Kat

December 10, 2009

Neil & Hayley wed at The Rare Breeds animal farm, in Ashford Kent on the probally wettest day of the year! All was not lost however as not only to Hayley get to rock her bridal look with some wellies, but the laid back couple just took it in their stride. We didn’t really have a theme. We just wanted a wedding that was simple, elegant and pretty with a choccy cake! My dress was from a shop in Ashford, UK called Brides of Kent ltd. I found it the first day I even looked for a dress. It was the 3rd dress I tried on! Everything seemed to fall in to place easily with the wedding. Fate. Thanks to Martin for sharing this funky, laid back and UK wedding with us today

Wet.

Clayton Austin seems to be the new beau of blog land. I've seen his vintage inspired shoots on many-a gorgeous wedding blog so when he sent me a slightly more modern feeling shoot to feature I jumped at the chance. When Marisa & Trey's shoot was plagued by torrential rain their first reaction was to call the whole thing off. "To hell with it" Clayton said "Let's get wet!" Thanks to Clayton for not only sharing but for getting so wet to bring us these images - you know we love you for it! Credit: Clayton Austin Photography

Green – The New Red?

Kat

October 5, 2009

I think this year green may be the new colour de jour for rock n roll brides. I have been sent a couple of gorgeous green girlies recently...do I see a new trend emerging? You will probably remember Amy from her stunning bridals that I shared recently. Well photographer Brandi was nice enough to send me the full wedding to report. I am crazy about the florals (I'll probably never tire of peacock feather bouquets!), the bridesmaid's and groomsmen's awesome purple combos which looks fab against Amy... and still of course, her shoes! Enjoy my lovelies...and special thanks to Brandi for sending these to me. I will be sharing some more green dress brides soon! Credit: Brandi Thompson Photography

But Rain = Rainbows!

Kat

July 14, 2009

One thing you can always count on in England is the rain...it will always come when you don't want it too. In some circles rain on your wedding day is considered the worst thing that could ever happen but it others it is seen to be a sign on good luck and prosperity for the marriage to come. I am likely to think myself that neither her of these are true and as long as you still get some damn good photographs it's all good! Asian weddings are full of tradition, colour (the Bride traditionally wears red) and are always an absolutely massive party (I have a friend at work who got married a few months after us and she had about 350 people at her wedding!) They also go on for about a week, with all the celebrations climaxing with a ceremony that lasts for many hours. Thanks to Craig & Chanelle Segerius Bruce for sharing..and I am very excited because I am actually doing a photo shoot with the guys tomorrow!
