Nathan & Marianna’s DIY-Fabulous New York Wedding

Oooh I am so excited about Nathan & Marianna’s diy-fabulous New York wedding (although this is doing nothing to quench my desire to sign 2 weeks off and jet off to NYC!)

The couple got married at St. Luke’s Church and then had their reception at Sea Cliff Yacht Club. “Both are in the small one square mile town (22  miles from NYC) where I grew up in Long Island, NY” Marianna told me. The couple only splurged on the things that really mattered to them – one of them being the band that played their reception “This was probably the best splurge (and only) of the wedding.  I highly recommend getting a live band, we had a great fun dancing ALL night long” the bride explained. “I thought we were just going to go the ipod shuffle route, but was convinced that the band makes the party and to have one.  It was great advice, and is probably (most definitely) true.”

Marianna also put huge effort info her outfit to make it perfect for her – second best was not an option. She found her perfect dress, knew it was the one and went for it! Everything she wore had meaning and thought behind it.

“I am not sure who made my dress, I never even looked at the tag.  I had to buy a dress off the rack since I had a minor dress problem in June.  Strut bridal is a plus sized bridal store, it was great and the owner is fabulous.  If you live in Arizona (Phoenix) I highly recommend it. I had to have the whole thing completely tailored to fit since it was way too big.  But I loved the dress upon first glance! I had all the train cut off, made it ankle length and added some serious sweet heart necklace.  It was pretty much like making a custom dress.  But really Strut bridal comes highly recommended from me, I felt comfortable Ann (the owner) was extremely helpful. Words of advice even if a wedding isn’t your cup of tea don’t settle on a dress early in the game, it will come back to haunt you-even if you are hard to fit and dreading the dress process.  Also go with who ever you feel comfortable with, even it is the groom!”

A Spider Ring, A Diamond Skull & Empire State Building Shoes

I think the phrase ‘off the hook’ was invented for engagement sessions like this. Danielle & Ed have such amazing style! First up her ring is a custom made creation by Greenlake Jewelry Works…and it’s a spider! The heart diamond in the ring actually belonged to Danielle’s Grandmother.

Secondly her shoes are in the design of The Empire State Building (wow!) by Geox and thirdly they have a crystal encrusted skull lamp that they found unadorned in a vintage shop. Danielle & Ed added all the sparkles themselves…I  love it. In fact I want one!

The couple are getting married in August and are having a Marie Antoinette theme – now that’s a wedding I’m going to want to see

The MOST INCREDIBLE Alice in Wonderland Wedding Ever. FACT.

I’ve seen a lot of Alice in Wonderland shoots and weddings this year but none as fan-bloody-tastic as Jessica & Wade’s. The couple said they came up with the Victorian Alice theme on a whim (even before the film came out this year) and decided to run with it. Unbelievably the couple designed and came up with everything for the wedding themselves. This is a wedding I wish I’d be at! I literally don’t know where to start when it comes to talking about how awesome this wedding is so I’m just going to make a huge list of all the bits that I love about it.

Their officiant was from a death metal band (Chuck “Mandaddy” Ellis from Gargamel)
The groomsmen had tails
The bride had ‘bride-dudes’ instead of bridesmaids (they were all men!)
They all entered the ceremony to The Funeral March of the Marionettes and Jess entered to The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies
They solidified their vows with Tea Sipping Ceremony
There was a white rabbit
Most of the guests dressed up in either vintage or Alice in Wonderland-themed costumes
The bride had 2 dresses which she wore stripy socks and little hats
The had mis-matched crockery (which they found at thrift stores mostly)
The a tower of cup & saucers with cakes inside
The topsy-turvy wedding cake with a mad hatters hat and a teapot as seperate layers
They had ‘eat me’ signs
They had moustaches for people to play with
They had a fuji instax camera for guests to play with
They had their own Mad Hatter’s ‘Tea’ made and bottled (wine)

My mind is officially blown, how about you?

Retro Art Deco Kitsch

I LOVE a bit of retro kitsch and Caroline & Jim couldn’t be more perfect at pulling this off if they tried. The shoot took place in their own Art Deco apartment in Brighton (just check out the exterior shots!) which has been decorated with an eclectic mix of bits and bobs collected from all over and ranging in era from the 1920’s right through to the 1970’s. I adore everything from the authentic mirror, clocks and Princess Anne collectible mugs to the incredible wallpaper and all the retro furniture.

Jim is ‘Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer’ , a brilliant musician playing  all over the country at gigs, weddings, parties and festivals. Caroline has a complete passion for fashion as she works in the fashion industry in London. The pair both embrace everything retro and nostalgic in fashion and styling, so their style was spot on for this style of shoot. The couple both wore all their own clothes to give a completely genuine portrayal of themselves and who they are as a couple.

City Hall & The Seaport

Courtney & Jon got married at New York’s City Hall in February with just their baby with them. Afterwards they headed to The Red Lion in Greenwich Village for a few drinks and some photographs.

However this month they decided to have a big reception at Bridgewaters by the South Street Seaport to celebrate with all their friends and family. Courtney looks incredible in her modern J Crew ruffled dress and Miu Miu shoes- in fact so much so that someone stopped them in the street and asked if they were models or if they were actually getting married! The reception looks like it was a lot of fun – fake glasses, moustaches and lips never get tired!

A Sunday Kind of Love – The Moustache & The Crown

I’ve been thinking long and hard about who should be my Sunday Kind of Love victim this week…it’s getting increasingly hard as so many of you are so awesome to me! So I’m going to pick something a little bit random but something I know you’ll enjoy!

I had a total Tatty Devine fest. this week and I am in utter love with my new purchases. Therefore I dedicate this week’s post to my new Moustache necklace and Crown ring. They are pretty, they are funky and they are random as hell. Love!
