A London Mod Wedding: Maddy & Victor

I seem to be featuring a lot of weddings with pub receptions at the moment but I love the idea and the fact that they are a cost effective venue option. However the thing I love about the particular pub weddings that I share is my readers. Even with similar venues the weddings couldn’t be more different from each other! Take Maddy & Victor’s mod-esque wedding for example…

“Our reception was at Clissold Arms in North London”, Maddy began. “The ceremony was at St Michael’s Church in Highgate and Victor wanted a good exit from the church and journey to the pub. Whilst we discussed leaving in a Delorium and re-enacting a scene from Back to the Future, there just wasn’t the budget! But Victor is a huge fan of scooters, and had the idea of leaving with an entourage of vespas following us was born. So we gave the local scooter club, New Originals North London Scooter Club, a call and they were more than happy to help!”

A Brazilian Restaurant Wedding: Rebecca & Gabriel

Rebecca & Gabriel’s Canadian wedding took place in November. Toronto City Hall hosted their ceremony, and they selected Caju Restaurant for a low key and casual reception. Gabriel is from Brazil so the cuisine of the restaurant provided a nod to his family and heritage.

“Gabriel and I met online, and deleted our dating profiles after our first date,” Rebecca told me. “We moved in together after a month of dating and knew we were going to get married. We both just knew we had finally met the right one, and something about the way we worked together just made complete sense! He is from Brazil, living in Canada and I moved to Toronto to meet people. None of Gabriel’s family was able to come to Canada for our wedding, so we had our small 30 guest reception at an authentic Brazilian Restaurant so we would at least incorporate Brazil through the amazing food.”

“On the day of the wedding Gabriel drove his scooter for 45 minutes to get our big red balloon. It was the only ‘task’ I had given him to take care of, and to get it home from where he found it he tied it to the back of his scooter and drove it back home! It is currently still with air in it (barely!) in our house. We loved that red balloon! He also forgot his wedding ring on the day of the wedding, and had to zip home on his scooter, and battle rush hour gridlocked traffic to get to City Hall on time!”

The bride opted for a short white dress from Fashion Crimes instead of a traditional wedding dress, and with it she teamed a vintage fur wrap and a homemade headpiece. “I made my own birdcage veil, very simply from a website I found online”, the bride continued. “I decorated all of our floral mason jars with mismatched lace and fabric (from my own personal stash!) I made drink straw banners and cupcake bunting and hand stamped our envelopes, made our invitations, and of course made all of my own flowers! I’ve been a florist for over 10 years, so it was very important to me to do that.”

Melissa & Alan’s Multi-Outfit Wedding

Melissa & Alan are a pretty awesome couple aren’t they?

“We just wanted to be ourselves,” they write. “No magical fairy tale kind of wedding, no heels, no leather shoes, no cummerbunds. Super down to earth and casual that says ‘This is Melissa and Alan’.”

“Every details signified us, as an individual as well as a couple. Things that we love are incorporated into the wedding. Vespa, sneakers, badges, boots, dreadlocks, beach, surf culture, reggae, live band, tulle, corset, and many more.”

Their outfits (yes plural!) were inspired by fashion magazines and blogs. They pieced their ensembles together themselves, taking from these sources the bits that they loved to create a really unique and totally fabulous wedding day look.

Rotterdam Rock n Roll

I love these guys! Normen & Priya are from Holland and had their engagement shoot in Rotterdam with Tapas Maiti. This is just pure Rock n Roll and the couple have got a GREAT story. “I met Priya at the Asian Wedding Exhibition last November” Tapas told me. “It was an hour to go before closing and I was about pack up when she came to my stall and we got chatting. Priya & Norman are from Holland, her mother was a Hindu who arrived in Holland via Surinam whilst her father is a Sikh from the Punjab. Many Indian Hindu’s have settled in Holland by way of Surinam through the Dutch Indian Empire, its a fascinating story and shows the complexity of the Indian diaspora.”

Sweetpea

The very gorgeous engagement session of the equally gorgeous Abby & Erik was just sent over by their photographer friend Mary Wyar. She had the pleasure of hanging out the back of her car to get the ‘riding the scooter’ shots as well as the much less strenuous task of shooting the pierced and tattooed couple having a Rock n Roll picnic (complete with pink flamingos of course) and hanging out with their dog, Sweetpea.

Just Sassy

I recieved this adorable email yesterday…how could I say no?

Now, this couple isn’t tattooed (that I know of) or super outrageous, but they are pretty damn sassy.  We shot these in Duluth, Minnesota and we brought out their dog, their scooter and braved a decaying deer to get some sweet graffiti shots.  I had the HARDEST time choosing which ones to show you, so if you want to see the cute pooch and graffiti pics, you will just have to ask to see more!
