Rockabilly

A Punk, Rockabilly, Neo-Gothic, Country & Western Engagement Sesh.

Kat

July 21, 2010

Michelle & Mike's engagement session is a total reflection of them as a couple. They were inspired by Quentin Tarantino for the style and used their "Rockabilly, car kulture, punk culture, antiques, vintage & neo-traditional design and styling, neo-gothic, country/western, low-brow art, tattoo culture, vintage pin-up/greaser" personalities as the theme! They even brought a 1970 Mustang Grande & 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne along for the ride.

We ♥ Miami

Kat

July 9, 2010

Amanda & Marcel's Florida engagement session was a gift from their friend Mireya at Axiom Photo Studio. "From the moment Marcel and I got engaged, Mireya called us up and said...'I have a vision' " Amanda told me. "She told us where and when to meet and she would take care of the rest. I decided to hit up a few Goodwill stores the night before and ended up getting my entire wardrobe for under $20. She knew she wanted to capture "us" and "Miami" and she really did. She took us to some kick-ass graffiti walls in Wynwood and then we traveled back to Little Havana for some cafecito. The whole shoot took about four hours and we all had a blast (including our 2 chihuahuas)."

1950’s Diner-Style Charm

Kat

July 8, 2010

Holy 1950s wedding awesome Batman! I love it when a couple really get into a theme and do it so well - so well in fact that their photographer Al Overdrive even dressed up as a 1950's style reporter (photo below) Michelle & Craig got married in style at Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Everything screams 1950s retro rockabilly charm - from the pink Cadillac and the diner style grub (giant hotdogs, create your own burgers, fries, waffles, pancakes, ice cream sundaes, Oreo cheesecake!) to the Vivienne Westwood shoes (of which I will never tire) and Michelle's custom 'Beverlywood' Dolly Couture dress.

Elegant & Modern with Rockabilly Charm

Kat

June 25, 2010

Erinn & Brandon's Nashville wedding was an elegant and modern affair with a touch of rockabilly and country charm. The couple chose Aerial as the location for their wedding. They had their ceremony and reception on the rooftop, overlooking the city - a perfectly modern backdrop. "We chose Aerial not just because it was rooftop, but because it was above all of the honky tonks that make Nashville what it is" the couple to me. "We wanted it to be elegant, with a glimmer of rockabilly and country in the background. The glow of the city lights and neon from below was perfect!"

Retro Rockabilly & Heart Shaped Sunglasses

Kat

June 15, 2010

I've got yet another bit of retro rockabilly lovin' for you today, in the form of Nick & Jamie's Santa Barbara wedding. The ceremony and reception took place at The Rockwood Womens Club which proved to be the perfect backdrop to their day. Jamie looked stunning in her Maya dress by Michelle Roth, but it had a bit of a story behind it! ""Ohhhhh the dress....it was almost a nightmare! It was a Michelle Roth "Maya" that I bought used on Oncewed. I took it to a local alterations lady who cut it too short and messed up the top! Luckily I have a dear friend in the fashion industry, Denice Dir who saved the day by not only adding the black tulle underneath, sewing in a petticoat and took 45 minutes to carefully seam rip the top and fix what the other lady had messed up. She even made my dog's collar piece out of my dress trimmings and surprised me on the day of my wedding with the special stitching she did inside!"

Antique Market Dreams

Kat

May 7, 2010

I have much love for Chicago photographer Jeremy Lawson and it's always a pleasure to feature his Rock n Roll weddings - especially when they are as awesome as the one of Mary & Alton. The wedding took place at the uber cool Salvage One, which, with it's awesome signage and rustic, almost derelict, antique market interior provided the perfect backdrop to the event. Mary's vintage look was provided by local Chicago design Jess Audey who custom made her beautiful dress and Antje Kastner at Tigerlilie who did her retro/rockabilly style hair and make up.

Sweethearts in South Africa

Kat

April 16, 2010

This is my second South African post within so many days and I'm pretty sure you're gonna dig this one just as much as the last. The lovely Laura actually found photographer Kat Forsyth through a post on Rock n Roll Bride so this session is even a little extra special to me. The Australian bride-to-be will be marrying her South African sweetheart Gustav (who she met in the UK - boy are these guys travelled!) back in Australia later this year and judging from the coolness of this engagement session, I just know their wedding is going to be Rock n Roll Bride worthy!

Retro Rockabilly vs Vintage Hippy Chic

Kat

March 2, 2010

For Jessica's trash the dress, she wanted to go for two different looks. So along side her husband Randy and her photographer Lori she got kitted out twice to create some images she'd always remember. First up was a retro rockabilly style urban session full of graffiti shots and stark architecture completed with her kick ass attitude and fashion including necklaces by Anna Sheffield for Target, the Je t'aime two finger ring (which I adore!) by Erica Anenberg and heels by Steve Madden. F0llowing this a much softer, more earthy style was required, so they all headed out to a local woodland with a gorgeous green chair and had a play around. For this style she wore vintage necklaces and a vintage coat, boots by MIA and a pink disc necklace by Dominique Cohen. Her dress in both sessions was from David's Bridal.

Buddy Holly & Mother Nature

Kat

March 1, 2010

Amy & Nick's wonderful South Austin wedding had a distinct and very individual theme - perfect for them! Big fans of Buddy Holly and late 50's/early 60's music, it was important to them to really have that as a big part of their wedding. Amy walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Every Day played live by a friend on the guitar. Nick waited to marry his sweetheart decked out in a grey suit, Buddy Holly glasses and his favorite pair of Converse. Amy wore a dress by Dolly Couture which was perfectly accented by a Magnolia flower created by Amy Barber of Sweettooth Bags.

New York photographer Aga of Aga Images has always been one of my favourites. Not only is she one of the sweetest, loveliest gals on the internet but she never fails to blow me away with her darling images...don't get me wrong though, this ain't no sissy photography, in fact Karin & John's vintage snow day after session is RAD! I am crazy about this dress and, of course, Karin's awesome tattoos. OMG I have to get myself to the tattoo parlour stat!

Bowling Alley Rockabilly Bridal Shoot

Kat

February 26, 2010

This exceptional Rock n Roll style fashion shoot photographed by Jessica Monnich at Highball in Austin Texas hit me right between the eyes. I've fallen in love with the vintage 1950s rockabilly stylings, the gorgeous fashion, the stunning models, the bowling alley setting...well basically how damn cool the whole thing is! I'm so excited to share this shoot and all the people involved with you..you're gonna love it! "We went with a 50's theme. The location was very hip swanky 50's feeling bowling alley on South Lamar in a bowling alley here in Austin Texas called Highball. In keeping with the vintage theme we did a place setting in the color scheme of the shoot using fiestaware which was popular during that time period. We thought Wizard of Oz Pez dispensers would be fun as that was a popular movie during that time. We also had mock cakes made up for the shoot that had a very rockabilly feel to them as well. The "bride" carried a lotus flower surrounded by sweet peas and the "bridesmaids" carried a combination of flowers including pink sweet peas and poppies." Thanks to Jessica and the whole team for sharing these with Rock n Roll Bride Photography Credit: Jessica Monnich Photography Photo assistant: Gerry Hanan of Hanan Exposures
