Dr Who Themed Wedding with Glitter, Magic & Tonnes of Fun!

When the groom is a magician and the bride a comedian, you know their wedding day is bound to be packed with entertainment! In fact there wasn’t a dull moment in Robyn and Martin’s October wedding day, with musicians, magicians, singing waiters, a flashmob and a first dance to Baby Shark! “We just wanted a day full of fun,” the bride told us,

“I’ve been to so many weddings and had hours of making polite conversation and twiddling my thumbs that I was adamant ours would be the opposite. If a family like ours can’t put on a show then who can!”

Their day was held at Tilehouse Street Baptist Church in Hitchin before moving on to the Hilton Garden Inn in Luton for the reception. The bride and her mum did tonnes of DIY, spending months in the lead making props and doing almost everything themselves with the help of family, bridesmaids, children and anyone else they could lay their hands on! From custom wine-glass charms as place names to handmade favour boxes, birdcage centre-pieces to a life-size tardis for the couple to secretly make their entrance from for the reception! “I probably took on too much,” the bride admitted, “and should have delegated a lot more but I was so secretive about all the little details that it paid off to do it all myself!”

Gothic, Harry Potter Inspired Wedding

Julia and Roo met at a metal club in London over 11 years ago. When it came to planning their October wedding, they knew they wanted to go for a very dark theme; they based it around their love of Harry Potter, the moon and general witchy things. They chose a full moon for their wedding date and crammed in as many personalised touches as their £10,000 budget would allow.

The couple were married in a short ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall, with custom vows, before heading over to The Escapologist; a cocktail bar in Covent Garden. “Our reception venue had never done a wedding before, but they were perfect for the informal style party atmosphere that we wanted, with pizza, nibbles, cocktails and prosecco (with custom ‘Acio Prosecco!’ glasses to drink it from, no less!) We decided very early on in planning that we wanted to avoid a sit down dinner,” explained the bride.

Dark, Moody & Whimsical Wedding Inspired by Movies, Astrology & Magic

Christopher and Emily reflected on their own likes, interests and things they have in common to draw inspiration for their October 2018 wedding. Their vision for the day was dark, moody and whimsical, with nods to Halloween since their wedding date was October 13th. They planned the whole day themselves, and wanted it to be a true reflection of their style and personalities, focusing on themselves rather that what was trending online, and didn’t listen to other people’s opinions on what a wedding should, or should not, include.

Emily and Christopher met working at a movie theatre, so with their shared love of films they used that to guide their soundtrack for the day. Christopher and the groomsmen walked into The Godfather’s main theme, the bridesmaids walked in to Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter, and Emily’s procession was to You Are The Pan from Hook, one of the couple’s favourite movies of all time. The bridal party intros at the reception were movie based as well, and they chose songs that reminded them of one of the bridal party – a few gems included the Jurassic Park theme and Ghostbusters.

“The songs were a surprise and no one knew what they were walking out to so it made the moment even funnier seeing the look on their faces,” said Emily. “My husband and I grew up watching WWF/WWE and were introduced via Stone Cold Steve Austin’s intro music. We walked in with the glass shattering and proceeded to chug our drinks appropriately.”

Minimal Meets Magic & Witchy Wedding

There is so much to love about Roxanne and Andrew’s wedding and although they got married in June, the witchy theme, which included tarot and crystal elements to the decorations, makes it perfect to share at this time of year! One of the things I love the absolute most about this wedding is how paired back and minimal everything is – less is more and all that! This gorgeous celebration proves that you don’t have to go completely overboard with the decor and theme to still have a fantastic looking event.

“We were inspired by our personal aesthetic and interests”, began the bride. They also wanted the day – well, weekend – to be laid back and enjoyable for their guests so they invited their closest friends and relatives stayed at the cabin, where the wedding was held, all weekend.

Magical ‘Harry Potter in the Mountains’ Themed Romanian Wedding

Diana and Vlad’s wedding was an actual dreamland, and I don’t think you’re prepared for what your eyes are about to feast upon. They had three parts to their wedding and each was as incredible as the last: first, their gothic Romanian city hall wedding; a week later, their “Harry Potter in the mountains” themed reception; and finally an after-wedding photo session in Ireland, where they now live. It is just delicious from start to finish.

Their church service and civil bit took place a week before the main reception, giving guests a chance to enjoy a weekend in the mountains – it was important to Diana and Vlad to pay for their guests’ accommodation, so that they didn’t have to worry about their journey home which would have been at least two hours, if not more!
