Movie Themed London Wedding Kicking Cancer’s Ass

Sarah and Shaun’s boho movie-inspired wedding is incredible, for many reasons. Their venue, Rich Mix Cinema, looked like SO MUCH FUN,  and their styling was sensational (any couple who gets married in front of Leonardo DiCaprio’s face on a screen is a winner in my eyes). But above the awesome alternative styling and the delicious photos from faves Through The Woods We Ran, Sarah and Shaun’s wedding is amazing because of their story and their planning approach in the face of major adversity:

“Shaun and I got engaged last April, and began planning our wedding immediately, setting the date, buying the dress etc,” Sarah said. “However, in June I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After the initial shock had subsided, my response to the doctor was ‘I am getting married in nine months so let’s get this cracking!’ Anyway, over the next few months I underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. My treatment finished on 23rd February 2018, one month to the day before our wedding!” Although she was originally going to wear wig, Sarah decided against it – and we totally agree that she absolutely rocked being, as she described herself, a “cancer bride”.

Relaxed 1920s Wedding with Foxes and an Engagement Squirrel!

Amanda and Edward’s wedding was 1920s art deco themed with a gothic twist! They had three separate venues so their guests could walk about and experience the beauty of York, but they wanted their reception to be intimate and have a Peaky Blinders family gathering kind of vibe. They had a small room with dimly lit with candles for their 30 guests.

“We love the glamour of the 1920s Art Deco/ Gatsby era,” began Amanda, “We also wanted to included foxes somehow because when both Edward and I travelled separately back from one of our our first dates, we both saw foxes run across the road. Also, when we were on the train in to Birmingham to get our wedding rings from the jewellery quarter, there was a fox running along the side of the tracks. We also talked about the crack fox from The Mighty Boosh before we had even met so foxes are very significant to us. Squirrels are also significant as I fed one right after we got engaged, then again the year after when we had chosen our venue and also the year after that, quiet miraculously, when we were having our wedding photos taken! All captured on camera and in the same place. We wonder if it was the same squirrel who we’ve named The Engagement Squirrel.”

Their ceremony was emotional and relaxed, even though Amanda was 25 minutes late! “I’ve been told it’s the bride’s prerogative to be fashionably late although it certainly wasn’t on my agenda”, she laughed. “My lovely make up artist’s train was very delayed but she caught up very well and was as cool as a cucumber. She kept me very calm and we all looked amazing even though we were against the clock.”

Vintage Pin Up Wedding with a Touch of The Great Gatsby

Bre and Matt’s wedding had a vintage yet moody theme with some Great Gatsby references. They were married in British Columbia in Canada in September. Their ceremony was on a rooftop overlooking the Okanagan Lake.

“We met when were were 13 and aged 17 we agreed that if we weren’t married to other people by 25 we’d marry each other!” Bre began. “Life took us on separate paths for a while, but we reconnected and actually started dating when we were 23. Not long after we started dating, we went on a big road trip, and one night on the California coast Matt told me he loved me. Fast forward two years and Matt planned another trip for us, which brought us back to the exact same place he told me he loved me. That night he proposed to me on the balcony overlooking the ocean. That promise we made when we were 17 had been kept, and at 25 we were engaged!”

Great Gatsby & Art Deco Inspired Pub Wedding

Great Gatsby & Art Deco Inspired Pub Wedding (35)

Brooke and Reece first met in high school and were married in Australia in September. The main inspiration for the wedding was their venue; The Provincial Hotel in Fitzroy. It had the laid back feel they were after and had lots of rustic charm. Their theme was mash up of rustic, handmade details and the Great Gatsby. They decided to not have a first dance, cut the cake or throw the bouquet as they didn’t want a scheduled wedding with time frames and things to remember, they just wanted to party!

“We have a love for the art deco era but didn’t want to fully base the wedding on a theme so we chose certain aspects to be art deco inspired and the rest rustic and laid back,” explained Brooke. “We really wanted a venue that was in Fitzroy as that area means a lot to us. We were so happy to find out that The Provincial Hotel does weddings as we frequent there often and we wanted the venue to show a little something about us.”
