Urban Neon Elopement in an Old Berlin Military Base

ARE. YOU. READY. For the best thing you’ve ever seen? Rock n Roll Bride was founded on celebrating alternative weddings that are totally different, and this is going to blow your mind. Laura and Florian’s Berlin wedding was a neon wonderland, including the coolest neon stationery and glow-in-the-dark eyeliner. Techno? More like Tech-YES.

Having seen neon more and more in the fashion world, Laura and Florian had the idea to use it as their wedding theme, mixing neon yellows and greens with white and grey for a classy take on the colour palette. There were neon green details on everything, including on the soles of Laura’s heels, the buttons on Florian’s shirt cuffs, their ring box and their stationery, all from Braune Biene. They had a neon green acrylic menu card and even sent their family a cute elopement card afterwards.

Dia De Los Muertos Meets Psychobilly Wedding in a Berlin Nightclub

Daniela and Thomas’s wedding day was a mixture of Rock n Roll, psychobilly and Dia De Los Muertos, which the bride describes as a “Happy, loud and without any conventions” kind of day. They had ‘first look’ photos taken and also stopped in at an Oreo pop-up store on their way to the ceremony, which was held in an old circus tent! Their reception party was in a rockabilly club in the middle of Berlin where they had a live band playing so it was like a gig – they first met at a psychobilly concert in the bride’s hometown of Munich, so this was a lovely nod to that.

Daniela said they were inspired by, “The Latino feeling and understanding of life and happiness. Colourful but Rock n Roll. Our wedding planner, Svenja of Freakin‘ Fine Weddings, and I came up with Dia De Los Muerto for our main theme.”

Fifth Time Around Vow Renewal at a Secret Location in Berlin

Mina and Nathan didn’t want their wedding day to be the ‘one big day of their lives’, so instead decided to celebrate their wedding day every single year! This year was their fifth vow renewal (!) and it was the right amount of crazy and weird, laid back and a little industrial.

“We have lived together in many beautiful different places around the world,” began Mina, “but there is something particularly special about Berlin and it’s vibes. It’s a place where it’s seems everybody can choose for themselves how to live. It is an absolutely mixed city, culturally and architecturally, and is a place of contrast and individual perspective. Ugly can be beautiful, chaotic and messy can be perfectly organised, rude can be friendly. All of this was an inspiration to us for our wedding renewal and the reason why we wanted it to be in Berlin.”

Hipster & Urban Wedding in Berlin

Rishad and Andreas were married in Berlin. The Bangladeshi bride and her German groom had a laid back wedding that really felt like them. “Although there was a lot of planning, we did not have a theme”, explained the bride, Rishad. ” Things just fell into place in the organic semi-chaos that is our life. Some of our guests described it as ‘hipster’ but we’d say it just felt like us. It was small and homely, a celebration of all the different relationships that have individually shaped us.”

“We didn’t particularly think our wedding was ‘alternative’ but there were some crucial elements that  made that day slightly different from the textbook wedding. I wore white but it was not a traditional wedding dress. I did not have a flower bouquet but rather, had some in my hair! We had no flower girls, no best men and bridesmaids – just one friend from each side, who would together conduct the ceremony. There were no grand plans for the reception either. We just wanted to give people time to mingle, touch base and DANCE!”

Lo-Fi & DIY Wedding in Berlin

casual berlin park wedding (22)

Fran and Timo are from London but now live in Berlin, which is where they hosted their September wedding. The low key day had a budget of less than ÂŁ6000 and they saved the most money bu avoiding anything “too weddingy”.

“We skipped having an officiant (it was Timo’s brother that shambled us through a ceremony), and we kept everything as simple and relaxed as possible”, the bride said. “The day started in a nearby park with cocktails made by Timo and one of his best men and then we stayed in the same venue until the end of the night. My hen do was at FraĂźlein Wild’s bakery, where we frosted our own wedding cake (it was so special for me to do it with my girlfriends!) and made about 100 mini cupcakes – rolling up the cost of the hen do with the wedding cake at the same time saved some money, and we had lots of tasters as we went!”
