Colourful Sci-Fi & Bookish Themed Wedding with Dinosaurs & Back to the Future!

Lara and Alistair met on the internet in 2011. Although they’d lived in the same town forever, they didn’t have any mutual friends, so they’re very grateful to the free dating site they both took a punt on!

When it came to planning their day, Lara’s main source of inspo for the eighteen months in the lead up was none other than Rock n Roll Bride, of course! “I spent hours trawling through your site and magazine, completely in awe of how unashamedly themselves your previous couples were,” Lara said. “Rock n Roll Bride made it crystal clear to us that it was OK for us to have the day we wanted, and not one that everyone else expects you to have!”

Vintage Rockabilly Meets Back to the Future Inspired Wedding at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

Are you ready for a little touch of wedding magic? Because Carrie and Bill wedding held at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens is about to bring it! This has got to be one of Philly’s coolest and most unique venues, what an incredible spot to say “we do!” It is a non-profit organisation, folk art environment and gallery space that you can hire to get married in! So cool right?

The wedding itself had a vintage Rock n Roll theme with with rockabilly and tattoo culture plus punk vibes thrown in for good measure. The decorations at the reception included cassette tapes made into vases, lanyards as escort cards (VIP passes!) and vinyls as table markers.

“I have been enchanted with Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens for many years,” the bride began, “so when we decided to go for a centre city wedding I jumped at the chance to have our ceremony there. It held it’s own beauty and whimsy. As a quirky couple into into art and fantasy as well as alternative punk scene, it was a deal. We exchanged vows in a fashion that is us and Bill even quoted Doug Stanhope ‘Baby I love you so much I want to get the government involved.’ Everyone had a chuckle from that! We walked out to a lovely instrumental version of Ho Hey From the Lumineers. We had a bubble send off and record shaped hand fan programs. It was a truly a magical experience.”

A San Francisco Elopement, A Yorkshire Village Hall Reception & A DeLorean!

Charlotte and John decided to get married while on Holiday in San Francisco. They had just a photographer there as their witness. Afterwards they planned a low-stress village hall reception back home in North Yorkshire with all their friends and family. It was inspired by kid’s birthday parties and the groom’s pride and joy: His DeLorean!

“John didn’t want the pressure of organising a big wedding”, said Charlotte, “and I don’t think I could have organised a full on wedding day with out some kind of breakdown! So we decided to go to off and get married on our own. “We had booked our holiday to San Francisco before getting engaged and I had been Pinteresting things we could do there. I then made a joke about getting married while we were away… One thing led to another and the next thing I knew I was asking my mum if she would be OK with it!”

Back to the Future Wedding on ‘BTTF Day’

Jewish Back to the Future wedding (13)

I am an ENORMOUS Back to the Future fan, so when I saw Yael and Magen’s wedding, which took place on October 21st 2015 (hands up if you know the significance of this date!) I was so excited to share it.

The Jewish wedding was held in Jerusalem. “Getting married in Jerusalem was a big deal for me”, began the bride. “Jerusalem is where I was born and grew up and where Magen and I first met and lived throughout most of our mutual lives together. Our dream was to marry in a basketball court in town (like in the prom from the film…), but it didn’t work out. We ended up getting married in a venue inside the University in which we both studied. That was cool.”

“Our wedding date wasn’t random”, she continued, “October 21st 2015 was celebrated around the world as ‘Back to the Future day’, the day in which Marty McFly arrives to the future in the most brilliant trilogy ever – Back to the Future. As huge fans of the film we knew a chance like this can only come once in a lifetime and did everything in our power to make it happen.
While others around the world partied that day mostly by watching the film, we were getting married in a Back to the Future themed wedding!”

Back to the Future Wedding on October 21st, 2015

back to the future wedding (20)

Any Back to the Future fan will know that October 21st, 2015 was a very special day. It’s the day that Doc and Marty went forward to in the second movie. As super-fans of the film, Sally and Jordan not only wanted to be married on this date, but they wanted their wedding to have a BTTF themed as well!

“We’re both massive fans of the film, and we always used to joke around saying if we ever got married that we’d get married on October 21st, 2015 and have a Back to the Future wedding”, said the bride. “So when Jordan proposed, it was automatically decided that it’s what we would do!”

They had it all – a Delorean, a ‘Welcome to Hill Valley’ sign, a chalkboard table plan, and so much more! “Of course we had to have a Delorean, and the night ended with a band called Outatime playing! I walked down the aisle to a recording of the main theme tune played on string quartet.
When signing the register, Huey Lewis, Power of Love was playing.”
