After knowing each other since school, and five official years together, Gemma finally proposed in a graveyard after a deeply emotional Taylor Hawkins tribute gig at Wembley. Marnee returned the favour six months later, mid-set at an All Time Low concert.
Their wedding day took that same irreverent, emotional, and unapologetically ‘them’ energy. Held at Le Petit Château in Northumberland, It was important to them both that they really lent into the weird, the wonderful, and the wildly personal side of wedding planning. “You could say our wedding theme was ‘autumnal rock ‘n’ roll glamour” or ‘alternative autumn with a touch of tropical'”, they said. “But If you asked our guests to describe it, they’d probably just say it was very Gemma and Marnee”.

One of the most distinctive elements of the day was the ‘branding’ – a custom-designed tattoo inspired skull logo which they used throughout the stationery, signage and on top of the cake. They even had it tattooed on their bodies by their favourite artist, Polly Thompson!
They got legally married at 10am, in their pyjamas. There was no big audience, just their closest people and rollers in Marnee’s hair! They wanted the official bit out of the way early and to have a celebrant-led ceremony later on.

Their cousin Sean played the role of ‘shot boy’, kicking things off by handing out baby Guinness and Tequila Rose as guests arrived to YMCA blasting through the speakers. Hugh Grant’s speech from Love Actually played and then Gemma and her wedding party entered to an orchestral version of Disconnected by 5 Seconds of Summer. Finally Marnee and her wedding party made their grand entrance to Fallingforyou by the 1975.

In fact, their music choices were important throughout the entire day. Their last dance surrounded by their guests was a huge singalong to to McFly’s All About You. They even squeezed in a circle pit to All the Small Things and an emo hour dance floor takeover.
The party felt more like a festival than a formal reception. Temporary tattoos for guests, multiple dress changes (Marnee’s second dress was a black sequin dream), emo bangers, and a bacon sandwich food truck kept the energy up all night.

“One of the highlights for us during wedding planning was going to Rock n Roll Bride Live“, they explained. “It was the shining shine in our planning process as it gave us access to so many other suppliers that truly enhanced our day and brought colour to proceedings. We were so lucky to find you guys and weave you into our day – we wouldn’t have met our celebrant Chloe without you, our temporary tattoo station, our ring designer or wristband company! So many of the touches that just added the touch to our day to make it great.”

They ended the night as they’d started it – just the two of them. Back in pyjamas, debriefing the day with wedding cake in bed. “Our advice to other couples is learn to say ‘fuck it!’ and listen to your gut”, they concluded. “You and your partner as you are the two that need to be leading it. We had two rules with inviting guests – would we give them the cash per seat if they needed it, and do you want to catch their eye as you walk down the aisle. We stand by that but, also add, do you want to spend five minutes of the biggest and best day of your life talking to them? If not; why are they there?”

“Remember at the heart of this is you and your loved one, don’t let shit stop you from celebrating that. Wear what you want, dance to whatever you like, leave people walking away thinking ‘That was such a THEM wedding!'”
