Rooftop Winter Wedding in Kansas City

Jessyca and Hulon met in a plus sized fashion Facebook group and decided to meet up in person… and the rest, as the old cliche goes, is history. They arranged everything for their nuptials themselves. As an operations manager at their own music studio (825 Studios) and VP at Hulon’s record label, Jessyca was certainly well qualified for the job!

They chose to have a winter wedding because they, and their families, love colder climates. Having everything outdoors and on a rooftop was a brave choice but it worked for them! They were married at On Broadway, a rooftop event space with amazing views of the downtown Kansas City skyline.

City Jungle Rooftop Wedding in Moscow

SONY DSC

Alice and Andrew’s 50-guest wedding was held on a rooftop in Moscow. They gave their guests a dress code to wear only black, and the cake was all black as well. As I’m sure you can guess, black is the bride’s favourite colour. They really just wanted to get married and have a huge party – so that’s exactly what they did!

“Our first idea was that we would have a pool party!” said the bride. “But the weather in Moscow in September differs completely from the west. It may be 20°C or it could be 5°C! So instead we decided to have a party on the urban roof with a magnificent view of the beauty of the Moscow city centre. The idea of a kind of ‘city jungle’ themed party came after we found the right rooftop. We loved the idea of a neon tropics theme!”

Alternative Rooftop Wedding Shoot

TattsOutCoutureCompanyAssassynation-10159

When I think about the most alternative wedding suppliers in the UK, I always think of Sassy of Assassynation Photography and Jo from The Couture Company. These bodacious babes are repping the alt bridal world like NOBODY ELSE! Co-founders of the Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza (taking place in Birmingham next month) they wanted to do this photo shoot to showcase some of the coolest wedding stuff out there right now.

A Native American Ceremony, A London Skyline View & A Bride in an Orange Jumpsuit: April & Dennis

April and Dennis_My Beautiful Bride-173b

There are some weddings I see which (forgive me, I know this is terribly unpatriotic) I instantly think, “damn, that’s SO COOL, it can’t be a British wedding”. It’s nice to be completely wrong though, especially with this wedding. In fact “SO COOL” doesn’t even cover it a little bit… April and Dennis are off the richter scale!

The Dutch/Kiwi groom and his American bride met in Amsterdam while they were both travelling around Europe. Long story short, they fell in love and settled in London. They were hitched on the roof of Rockwell House, a studio space in east London that comes complete with epic views of the capital’s skyline.

“When we started planning the wedding we knew we wanted Something completely different than any wedding we’d ever been to”, April began. “In searching for this we really found truly alternative was hard to come by. It all still seemed to be a tweak of the same old thing.”

“It was important to us that everything we did on the day was considered beforehand, that we didn’t do anything automatically just because it’s what you do at a wedding. I think we ended up with a really different, really special, really representative of us, day. We got wedding tattoos instead of rings – two halves of one tattoo actually – a Mexican Day of the Dead sugar skull with the words ‘hasta la muerte’ beneath (until death).”
