Bowled Away

Jessica & Nik had a completely KICK ASS (and that had to be in capitals because I am literally shouting that as I write!) wedding at Northbowl in Philadelphia. The couple, who love all things rockabilly, kitsch and retro - certainly put all of themselves into their freakin' awesome day. This is one of those weddings that is certainly going to do the rounds of Blog-Land so I am honoured that Amanda & Carina have elected Rock n Roll Bride to be the first blog to share them! As artists (Jessica a graphic designer and printmaker and Nik an illustrator) they were certainly the perfect pair to pull off such a stylish gathering. Jessica even made the adorable fawn cake topper to accompany the cupcakes (supplied by Brown Betty) herself! For the frames they scoured TJ Maxx (TKMaxx if you're in the UK like me!) and Michael'sand spray painted them themselves Jessica's dress was from Vivien of Holloway, she made her own red shrug (swoon!) and her hair piece was from House of Telsa on Etsy. Nik wore a suit from J Crew and a wicked tie from Cyberoptix TieLab. These two certainly are doing it for the girls. What a fantastic day! Thanks, as ever to the faaaaabulous Amanda & Carina for sending me the images and info. Love you guys! ps If the photos below aren't enough for you, then be sure to go check out Love Me Do's flickr - super yum! Credit: Love Me Do Photography

Worth The Wait

Sometimes a wedding comes along that is so damn fabulous that it's worth the wait for. I was sent an image of the bride trying on her stunning Elizabeth Dye dress by a reader, boy must have been about 6 months ago, and since then I have made it my mission to find more about the wedding, the dress, the girl, the guy and the stunning photography - it's all a bit too delightful for words huh?I am so excited to finally announce that I have the results right here! You are going to be completely gaga over these - I know I am! Ali & Danny were married on the 6th June at Bend, Oregon. The ruffles, the flowers, the cute cute shoes...I just love it all. Gina & Aris' wedding was infused with gorgeous details reflecting their stunning venue - Portland Classical Chinese Garden. I think it does without saying that Gina's Stephanie James Couture dress is ridiculously gorgeous (it's one of those dresses I never tire of seeing!) but I am also loving their adorable flower girl in her oriental inspired outfit + parasol, the origami paper flowers and the cute teeny tiny cupcakes and pink & blue bird cake topper. Thanks to Sean for sending these my way! Credit: Sean Morrison Photo

God Only Knows What I’d Be Without You

Kat

July 30, 2009

"Good morning, starshine... the earth says hello!" Boy am I one crazy blogger - got to bed at 3am last night and at 8.30 this morning I am raring to go again. Sleep? What's that? Prepare for another day of wowing by the way... Lets get going with this simple yet beautiful backyard wedding, given a little bit of a retro feel with Danielle's stunning dress which was made by Siri and Wade's suit which was from Banana Republic. Photographer Carey, loved telling me about this wedding: When Danielle came out to the Beach Boy's "God Only Knows', you knew it was going to be a great night. It was out at Wade's family farm (just outside of Regina, Saskatchewan), and was just a really relaxed fun day. There wasn't too much of a theme, but the little pieces added gave it a really comfy feeling. The food was bbq'd, little homemade Canadian honey was given to the guests, there was music and dancing all night, fireworks, a firepit with smores and weiner roasting, and people camping to stay the night. Thanks to Carey for sharing the love...

Standing Out From The Crowd

Kat

July 22, 2009

What you'll probably first notice about this set (apart from the Bride's wicked tattoo and the wedding's cute daisy theme) is that the photography is a little different. Photographer Katie Malone uses a variety of techniques to make her work stand out from the crowd. First we have the Holga images, an inexpensive 'toy' camera that produces distorted and low-fidelity images. The effect is dramatic light leaks (the red intrusions) blurs and vignetting (the soft dark edged images). She accompanies this with the use of infra-red (in black and white and with complete colour washes) and TTV (Through the Viewfinder) images. The latter looks a little like a Polaroid and produce a vintage looking, square image with a dark black border. These techniques aren't for everyone, but I'm sure any Rock n Roll Bride can appreciate the originality and quirkiness of the result. Thanks to Katie for sharing...

Skater Chick

I am super duper excited about this wedding/wedding day shoot (as you can probably tell because I've featured about 40 photographs!) I saw this wedding on one of my favourite non-wedding blogs Rockstar Diaries. The enviable gorgeous girl behind the site also produces her own hairpieces which is how I first got a glimpse of the gorgeousness. I immediately emailed the photographer and couple begging to be able to share their god damn crazy awesome wedding. Thank you to Cristi Dame, Naomi of Rockstar Diaries and the couple Amy & Matt for sharing this kick ass skater chick wedding!
