Krystian and Julia threw a wedding their guests never saw coming. They invited everyone to what was billed as an engagement party, but instead of speeches and finger food, the crowd got a real wedding ceremony! Their biggest challenge was keeping it all a secret, especially since Julia admitted she’s an “oversharer” and still managed to only spill the news to two more people than planned!

“We wanted all things colourful and bright”, Julia told us, “and had decided to opt for a colour palette of our favourite colours – magenta for Krystian and green for Julia. We wanted everyone to have fun in celebration of how lovely we are together. Another themes was ducks (as favours and décor). Ducks come from our first date (which was the best date either of us had ever been on) . We went bowling and they had a drink with a rubber duckies in the blue bath water. I don’t drink, but Krystian asked for a pitcher of iced cold water with some duckies because he knew how excited I was about rubber duckies in a drink! Krystian stole one of those ducks for me, as a memento for our first date, and when we went back on our one year anniversary the staff kindly gifted us another ducky when Krystian shared with them our loved up story.”

The groom entered the ceremony wearing a hot pink suit to Sexy by The Black Eyed Peas as their guests whooped and cheered at the surprise. Julia then arrived, walking herself down the aisle, wearing bright green. They stood in front of giant, inflatable iridescent balls so say their vows. “Our vows surprised a lot of people”, Julia continued. “We are naturally quite fun and playful together, but our vows were very heartfelt and meaningful. I limited my worship of Krystian’s butt to one mention and tears were flowing in the crowd throughout the exchange.”

They DIYed a lot of the décor, not to save money bit because they were very specific about what they wanted – most of which they couldn’t find anyone else doing it! “Picture this: giant iridescent balls, colourful balloons, bright pink love letters and a letter box as the wishing well”, the bride said. “We had an obscene amount of rubber duckies of different sizes, wearing different outfits EVERYWHERE! Our favourite details were the photo frames of those who are no longer with us at the alter – Krystian’s brother and dad, and Julia’s late dog Louey who had affectionately adopted Krystian as his dadda.”

Their advice? Do everything together, “Keep it simple, be true to yourselves and have fun”, they said. “We are so good together. Coming together feels so normal and we were glad to share our special day with our friends and family. We are legit obsessed with each other, next level affectionate and adore our son, Hippo the greyhound. Its so nice to be with someone who matches your energy and allows you the space to truly be yourself.”
