Moody Romantic Winter Wedding

Taylah and Ben met when they were 15 and 16. Although they were at the same school, they’d been in different year groups so didn’t really get the chance to connect until the end. But once they did, they were inseparable. They’ve been together ever since.

For their wedding, they chose the a ’til death theme as they wanted their November celebration to feel romantic, but with an edge. Pinterest became the unofficial third planner, where much of the aesthetic took shape. There were plenty of unique touches which they came up with all by themselves though. “I had my ‘something blue’ tattooed on me (literally),” Taylah explained, which probably tells you everything you need to know about the attitude they brought to tradition.

The ceremony was designed to be low-pressure and unfussy. “We wanted an easy going ceremony as neither of us like being centre of attention,” she continued. “Whilst guests arrived we had acoustic covers of Red Hot Chili Peppers songs and I walked down the aisle to stripped-back version of I’ll Be There for You from Friends.” The walk back up the aisle was shared with their daughter, soundtracked by Life is a Highway, a nod to her love of the movie, Cars.

The couple had a total budget of £10,000, with the venue taking the biggest slice. Still, they were pleasantly surprised by how affordable it was, especially considering it handled both the ceremony and the reception, and included an onsite cottage they used for a low-key minimoon. To save money, a lot of the rest of the day was DIY. They handled the decorations, the favours, the seating chart. The temporary tattoo station turned out to be the surprise MVP of the whole day.

Despite the traditional expectations that come with wedding planning and knowing they wanted to do something different, they both enjoyed the process. “I genuinely loved every minute of it and would do it all over again tomorrow!” the bride beamed. “Choosing the colour scheme and hunting down bridesmaid dresses were my favourite parts!”

“White is not a must. You don’t have to invite anyone you don’t want to, and no one else’s opinions matter”, she concluded. “Tradition is a trap! Weddings can be so formal but we think you should have fun with it!”
