A traditional, all-white wedding was never on the cards for Stephanie and Ernesto. The couple based the day around Warped Tour, as well as all the other concerts they’ve been to over the years. The bride initially didn’t want to wear a white dress, but when she found one which was white, but with black lace accents, it just felt right. “We are elder emos and knew from the beginning that we wanted a rock festival theme,” she said.

Instead of traditional favours, they set up a merch table stocked with t-shirts, tote bags, stickers, pins and sunglasses, all designed by Steph. “Whenever we’ve gone to concerts, we always get merch, specifically band shirts to take home, so we wanted our guests to be able to take home some of their own merch from our wedding.”

The seating chart followed the format of a festival line-up poster. Each table was named after a band they had seen together. Behind each name sat details of how many times they had seen that band live and a favourite song.

They removed any parts of a wedding that did not fit. They read their vows privately to each other before the ceremony. Their dog, Peanut, and Stephanie’s sister’s dog, Pepper, were the ring bearers.

There was no bouquet toss or garter toss and instead of cake they had an ice cream cart where guests could choose their own toppings. The guest book was replaced with handmade records printed with their photos, which they then displayed in their home afterwards.

With a rock festival theme, of course the music was a huge consideration and the couple loved planning the playlist for each part of the day. Some particular highlights were the groom’s entrance Highway to Hell and the bride’s to Turning Page by Sleeping at Last. They entered their reception to Bad Bunny’s Despuez De La Playa and during the evening they did LA Vibora De La Mar, a Mexican traditional dance “It was fun getting to see family participate. It functions kind of like a conga line where guests dance through an arch formed by the bride and groom standing on chairs, holding onto each other by the veil. It symbolises support and the couple navigating life’s challenges together.”

And, of course, no rock themed wedding is complete without a mosh pit! “We had emo night for 30 minutes where everyone joined in for the mosh pit. It was chaotic, people fell, tripped, bumped into each other, but it was a true concert experience. It was so much fun, and my bustle actually got ripped but that just made the moment that much more memorable!”
