Born To Raise Hell (And Get Married)

Lucy and Buzz were massively inspired by Rock n Roll Bride for their bold and unapologetically ‘them’ wedding. “The suits, the bike machine everything was Rock n Roll Bride in mind!” Lucy told us. “I adore your magazine and have for years!” But their wedding was ultimately for them, we just gave them permission to really go full throttle into what they already knew they wanted.

They filled their day with the things they love and they didn’t hold back. Motorbikes, tattoos, metal music, Halloween… The vineyard setting featured rich autumn tones and a Halloween inspired décor. Pumpkins and skulls sat alongside horror DVDs for the centrepieces.

Their brief for the photographer was to make it feel more like a magazine shoot than a wedding. “We said to imagine if Pam & Tommy, Sharon & Ozzy, or Sid & Nancy all got hitched, and walked straight through the paps!” Lucy told us.

Guests arrived to the ceremony to an instrumental mash up featuring of Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Evanescence and Linkin Park played on the harp. Buzz arrived to a harp version of the Rocky theme and then Lucy, wearing a black gown, then walked down the aisle to I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.

“I’ve always worn black, it’s when I feel most confident and myself, so why change that for one day?” she told us. Buzz wore a custom white suit with blood-drip detailing. Their entrance traditions shifted too. Lucy walked with both parents because choosing between them never made sense. Her nephew also had bubbles blasting from a machine instead of having a flowergirl dropping petals.

Their entertainment was just as wild as the aesthetic, from a harpist playing metal anthems; singing waiters at the wedding breakfast, and a motorbike wheelie machine which really turned up the adrenaline post-ceremony. They even had a real a tattoo artist and a metal DJ set to round off the night.

“Our reception was pure chaos in the best possible way”, Lucy continued, “loud, fun, and totally unforgettable. We wanted it to feel like a gig and a party rolled into one, not a typical wedding.”

They kept the guest list to just 55 guests so they could spoil the people who mattered. They had an open bar with unlimited drinks, canapés and a full three-course meal. “We rather have our nearest and dearest and spoil them instead of inviting 100+ guests we don’t really see.” she explained. “The whole night felt wild and electric, surrounded by our favourite people, good drinks, and killer music. It wasn’t about tradition it was about celebrating love, our way: bold, loud, and a little bit rebellious.”

There is only one thing Lucy wishes she had done differently. “I wish I was more present at the time in lead up, I do have anxiety and I don’t think I really allowed myself to enjoy it and take it all in. It’s not until it’s over you wish you just soaked it all up and not worry about things that can’t be changed. At the end of the day, me and Buzz were the only ones who knew what was happening and no one cares if things did or didn’t go right.”

“There isn’t a right way or wrong way of doing things”, she concluded. “This day is about you two and it should completely reflect that. You will never please everyone. Just do you guys and allow yourself to be completely creative.”
