Brad and Jazzy tied the knot in Highland Park with a wedding that looked nothing like a showroom and everything like them. The day was gothic, DIY, and fuelled by karaoke and a bit too much booze! Jazzy had one rule for herself: it was to be a black wedding dress or nothing. Think Wednesday Addams at prom with a side of blood red and burgundy.

The ceremony was small. A handful of family and friends attended and Brad’s best man played guitar. Their dog wore her own black dress and acted as ring bearer. Old Brown House gave her the perfect backdrop, a chapel stacked with antiques and not a trace of white in sight. “I don’t say this often, but it was perfect,” Jazzy said. “I have always been a fan of gothic style, whether its architecture, clothing, or home décor. The chapel we got married at was perfect for what I envisioned. There is no white in sight. It was a pleasure to work with them and I wish their cute little chapel all the success in the world!”

But the wedding was never meant to be a one-night thing. First came the chapel, then a backyard reception with mariachis organised by Jazzy’s dad, roses strung from the patio and lights across the garden. Finally came their post-wedding rager at Hot Shot Muffler, an old auto shop turned party zone. Full bar, pool table, beer pong, and a slideshow of their relationship set the scene before things descended into competitive karaoke. With two musicians at the centre of it, and most of their friends also musicians, it was less Sweet Caroline and more battle of the bands.

Everything was built by their people. “It felt like a week long celebration of friendship,” Jazzy continued. Friends decorated, family made cakes, siblings DJ’d, parents threw in surprises, and the flowers, hair, make-up, and planning all came from the people closest to them. Apart from the photography and venues, there were no outside vendors running the show.

They kept they budget to $10,000, with most of it going on food and alcohol (which they definitely over-ordered and they’re still working through months later!) Their outfits barely dented the total as they both spent under $200, tailoring included. Jazzy’s dress came from an online shop and fit perfectly, Brad’s suit came from a local suit store, and his bow tie matched his bride’s hair.
“Ask for help and work on your patience because it will be tested.” Jazzy advices in conclusion. “Also, remember to have a good time in the process!”
