Ash and Alex wanted moody romance, Doja Cat, lightsabers, and a cake that actually got eaten for their wedding. The bride was dead set on wearing a black dress an the groom wanted to wear a deep purple suit, so that was the perfect jumping off point for their colour scheme and bringing their dark romance fantasy to life.

They kicked things off with their flower boy vibing down the aisle to Paint The Town Red by Doja Cat (his choice!). They then had a shot girl head down the aisle, handing them out to guests. Ash walked to Turning Page by Sleeping at Last, living her Twilight: Breaking Dawn fantasy, after a Swiftie-coded soft launch with Applause and You Don’t Own Me – yes, the same songs that play before the Eras Tour. If you know, you know.

They cut the cake mid-ceremony and served it straight after as canapés. “That cake was expensive, ya’ll are eating it,” Ash laughed. “Cakes often go uneaten at weddings and we didn’t have any leftovers doing it this way!”

At the reception, Mario Kart was on standby for non-dancers, but emo hour stole the spotlight. Ash changed into Converse to scream-sing A Little Piece of Heaven with six equally hyped-up friends. Instead of a seating chart, they made a wall of envelopes – each containing a handwritten thank-you note. “We wanted our guests to know why they mattered to us,” she said. The DIY was plentiful, from the flower towers to the signage to their plywood ceremony arch. They also had a temporary tattoo bar filled with custom designs by Ash herself.

They planned for two years. Ash describes herself as a Type A planner with a 60-page wedding bible. “My psychotic 60-page wedding bible was a godsend”, she explained. “Every vendor had a copy. Nobody needed to ask us a thing on the day.” Still, even with the spreadsheet energy, the last few months were tough. “I burned out a little. There were so many unfinished projects right at the end”, she explained.

“I wish I’d realised earlier that the only opinion that needed to matter, was ours. That at the end of the day, you can get caught up in all the stressful moments, the panic over a napkin that is one shade too pink or whatever but what matters most is marrying your perfect person. Also, I did it and do not regret it; Cut off RSVPS at the date and don’t chase people. I made a promise to myself that the people who wanted to be there wouldn’t forget to RSVP and we held that boundary quite strongly. We are both so proud of sticking to that!”
