Colourful Woodland Wedding with Dinosaurs

Anna and Ben’s woodland wedding was captivating (geddit?) and enraptor-ing (double geddit!?) All puns aside, their beautiful dinosaur-themed wedding day was a riot of colour and fun, featuring loads of handmade games and outdoor decor to make you properly swoon. Plus, peep the seriously cute bridesmaids’ outfits!

They had their wedding at Applewood and Blossom Barn Weddings in Leeds. “None of the venues we’d looked at had really jumped out as being somewhere we would feel ourselves celebrating our wedding – until we found Applewood,” the bride explained. “The dinosaur theme came into play pretty early on – I’d been looking for ideas for name cards on Pinterest and saw someone had used little gold dinosaurs. I knew that having dinosaurs as a theme in the woodland and would help the idea of a fun wedding.”

Magical & Tropical Wedding on the Scottish Borders

tub of jelly - scottish wedding photographers & videographers

Who says only the bride can wear white? I think this all-white bridal party proves that isn’t the case! Don’t they all look FANTASTIC!?

The bridesmaids in the same colour as the bride wasn’t the only unique thing about Harriet and Jesse’s wedding though. They styled the day in a way that truly reflected them which meant pineapples, flamingos and fireworks! They day was also held at a friend’s house on the Scottish borders.

“Jesse and I met in bar 107 in downtown Los Angeles”, began the bride. “We then proceeded to go on the wildest and most fun night out together and that was that. Our wedding was rustic, magical, tropical and Scottish. We included all the things we like such as candles, pineapples, cactuses, unicorns, dancing, and lovely wine. We really just wanted our friends to have an amazing time so made sure that everything was top quality and lots of fun.”

Colourful Kitsch Yurt Wedding

Caris and Steve were inspired by everything they love for their wedding. So that meant flamingos, kitsch, traditional tattoo designs, Mexican day of the dead, 1950s B movies and octopuses – it was quite an eclectic day!

“We both love colour and knew we wanted it to feature strongly throughout the day, along with a sense of informality, fun and fiesta”, said the bride. “After visiting a few potential venues we realised that we would not be able to do exactly what we wanted at any of them (which were also way over our budget) therefore we would need to start from scratch with a blank canvas.”

“We fell in love with a large 42ft event yurt made by Yurt Maker so we hunted around for somewhere to put it and eventually approached a local wildlife charity who owned the perfect field just five miles from where we live! They were totally up for the idea of having a wedding reception on their land, despite never having done anything like this previously and charged us a really reasonable hire rate and were just fantastic throughout. We were thrilled that rather than our money going to a corporation it was supporting a local charity.”

Colourful Yurt Wedding

COLOURFUL YURT WEDDING (49)

Rebecca and Stephan were married on the bride’s uncle’s farm. They hired a yurt which meant they had a complete blank canvas and could have exactly what they wanted. “When we started to plan our wedding we both wanted an outdoor vibe”, the bride said. “My uncle’s farm which overlooks the River Severn seemed perfect.”

“We have both travelled a lot and so there were a lot of influences that came though in our choices, such as the Mongolian yurt, Mexican bunting and lots and lots of colour. We wanted a relaxed laid back day full of fun and nothing too formal or stiff. We also wanted to use lots of local suppliers and sourced most things locally and most through friends.”

Handmade Budget Savvy Yurt Wedding: Naomi & Glen

Lydia Stamps Photography Quirky DIY Yurt Wedding 855

Naomi and Glen spent just £4000 on their amazing boho wedding in a yurt in September. They saved money everywhere – from the bride having her dress made by a friend, the food being made by friend and family, DIY stationery, the flowers being arranged by Glen’s mum and the cake being made by Naomi’s sister in law!

“We really wanted to make our stamp on this thing”, began Naomi. “We made the invites, signs and props (my favourites signs were made from wooden plaques found in Glen’s late grandad’s house), the drinks dispensers, the cake stands and a room screen for the photo booth. We made our own rings using a blowtorch at home for mine and some heavier duty machinery for Glen’s! The hog roast was a gift, and all the food was done by family and friends. We really and truly poured our heart and souls in to getting the day off the ground and we really did do everything ourselves.”

“We got so many great deals by just asking around so if you’re stuck for an affordable venue check local farms and country b&b’s with land or camp sites”, she advises. “And don’t underestimate how much work it is putting it all together. I’m not sure the wedding would’ve happened without our AMAZING groomsmen and bridesmaids. We love them. SO MUCH. Keep your goals in perspective too. Some homemade things ended up just as expensive as if we’d bought them and can take a whole lot of time and work, but there are lots of things that can be made thriftily”

Outdoorsy Americana Themed Wedding: Amy & Steve

amy-steve-311

Amy and Steve got engaged while on a road trip around America and so an American themed wedding seemed like the most perfect option for them! These guys didn’t go for a subtle homage though, they went all out! “Our wedding was a little slice of American pie”, Amy began. “We got engaged two years ago on a road trip around the southern states of America. Steve got down on one knee over a BBQ of ribs and beer in the mountains of Virginia. It was the perfect setting and was amongst many aspects of that trip that made it one of our most memorable journeys together.”

“We decided we wanted our guests to experience a little taste of the ‘deep south’ for the wedding so they know why we loved it so much. At first we planned to introduce little subtle touches inspired by America but by the end of the planning we’d got so carried away that it was pretty much a full blown USA theme with flags and stars and stripes galore!”
