Peaky Blinders Meets F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Wedding with a Relaxed Atmosphere

Having a relaxed atmosphere at their February 29th wedding was one of the most important factors for Samantha and Jon. They also wanted to play homage to a couple of their favourite TV shows. Their tables names were F.R.I.E.N.D.S themed, each table named after one of the characters with a quote from the show to make people laugh and Samantha walked down the aisle to a slowed down cover of the theme. The groomsmen’s attire was inspired by Peaky Blinders, complete with flat caps!

“The morning went by slowly but the ceremony soon came and went”, Samantha told us. “We both didn’t want to be in the direct spotlight for too long. We were straight out for photos afterwards heading for group shots with the bridal party and Ryan, our photographer, asked me to drop my flowers down by my side … I took this very
literally and threw my bouquet of flowers onto the floor. Oops! They survived
though and I still have all the dried out flowers now in gin bottles on display at home.”

Less Glam, More Grunge: A Peaky Blinders Inspired 1920s Themed Wedding

As Hilary and Ronnie both work in TV production, it makes perfect sense that their wedding was inspired by one of their favourite shows. “I know 1920s themed weddings are really popular, but we were keen to avoid the ‘Gatsby’ look,” explained Hilary. “I really studied the set design on Peaky Blinders to get a rustic 1920s vintage look with the over the top glitz. We also really wanted our guests to have fun with costumes since we were getting married so close to Halloween, which is our favourite holiday.”

They paired rustic textures with jewel tones and a loose style of decorating while still incorporating more vintage pieces. “We wanted a more aged look as opposed to crisp,” said Hilary. As a graphic and jewellery designer that currently works in art department, Hilary knew early on there would be a LOT of DIY touches!

Alice in Wonderland Meets Peaky Blinders LA Warehouse Wedding

Andrea and Nate’s “Classy Upscale Alice In Wonderland” theme is a total belter. From Nate serenading Andrea as she walked down the aisle to their über cool LA warehouse reception, it was inspo fo’ days…

They describe their wedding scheme “like Alice in Wonderland inspired but not like you just stepped into Disneyland – a specific sort of royal black, white gold, and red.” There was a definite feel of vintage Hollywood glamour, with Nate and his groomsmen wearing a Peaky Blinders-inspired three-piece wool suits with newsboy hats and some worn work boots. Andrea’s bridesmaids all wore jewel tones in styles inspired by her beautiful dress: an elegant hand-beaded 1920s style gown. Her ring was also a hand-curated vintage treasure by Katie Carder.

Relaxed 1920s Wedding with Foxes and an Engagement Squirrel!

Amanda and Edward’s wedding was 1920s art deco themed with a gothic twist! They had three separate venues so their guests could walk about and experience the beauty of York, but they wanted their reception to be intimate and have a Peaky Blinders family gathering kind of vibe. They had a small room with dimly lit with candles for their 30 guests.

“We love the glamour of the 1920s Art Deco/ Gatsby era,” began Amanda, “We also wanted to included foxes somehow because when both Edward and I travelled separately back from one of our our first dates, we both saw foxes run across the road. Also, when we were on the train in to Birmingham to get our wedding rings from the jewellery quarter, there was a fox running along the side of the tracks. We also talked about the crack fox from The Mighty Boosh before we had even met so foxes are very significant to us. Squirrels are also significant as I fed one right after we got engaged, then again the year after when we had chosen our venue and also the year after that, quiet miraculously, when we were having our wedding photos taken! All captured on camera and in the same place. We wonder if it was the same squirrel who we’ve named The Engagement Squirrel.”

Their ceremony was emotional and relaxed, even though Amanda was 25 minutes late! “I’ve been told it’s the bride’s prerogative to be fashionably late although it certainly wasn’t on my agenda”, she laughed. “My lovely make up artist’s train was very delayed but she caught up very well and was as cool as a cucumber. She kept me very calm and we all looked amazing even though we were against the clock.”
