Simple, Intimate, Rustic & Romantic Brooklyn Restaurant Wedding

Ahh Lily and Claribell’s wedding brings us so much joy!! They were married at My Moon Restaurant in Brooklyn and although they had just $5000 to spend their day was beautiful and so right for them! The theme was a combination of keeping things simple and intimate but with rustic and romantic touches. They wanted to celebrate their day with their closest loved ones and avoid anything to formal or fancy.

“Our inspiration was for it to be romantic and simple”, they explained. “We loved that our venue provide everything for us and we didn’t have to go crazy hiring multiple people to put our vision together, My Moon had everything we wanted from decor to ceremony space.”

Glitter & Grunge: An Acrobatic Wedding in Brooklyn

Rob and Hannah wanted to throw a fun party for their friends and family for their wedding day, and were inspired by the juxtaposition in their personalities; Rob is a born and bred New Yorker who loves 90s grunge cultures, and Hannah is an acrobatic performer that is always covered in glitter.

Hosted at House of Yes in Brooklyn, NY, where Hannah works regularly, they took away a lot of the formalities of a traditional wedding. They didn’t have flowers or a bridal/groom party. Instead they each had a wrangler to make sure they were both hydrated and feeling good. They had cocktail hour before the ceremony, not after, and they served Mexican food instead of a sit-down dinner as a wedding breakfast.

As an aerial performer, there was no question that Hannah was going to make an entrance on her big day – she came in from the ceiling on her aerial cube for the ceremony. They were married by a friend. “I have a non-traditional family,” said Hannah. “Two gay dads and my mum. We found a way to incorporate all three of them into bringing me to Rob. Rob’s father and older brother passed away a few years ago; so it was very important to have his mum and nephew on stage for the ceremony as well.”

Low Key Brooklyn Wedding at Their Favourite BBQ Restaurant

There is something so very magical about New York in the winter time. Mollie and Ryan clearly agree with me because chose January 7th as the date for their Brooklyn wedding. The day was held at Hometown BBQ, their favourite BBQ restaurant in Red Hook.

“Our wedding was relaxed and non-traditional”, said Mollie. “I did a lot of research on Pinterest and alternative wedding blogs to give us the confidence that all our crazy ideas would come together in the end. Other weddings we’d been to previously we’re a big source of inspiration for us. We shamelessly incorporated what we liked from those weddings and learned from others to make sure everything could go as smoothly as possible for us. For the style of our wedding we took a lot of inspiration from our venue. Hometown BBQ has a fantastic low key vibe. We added in our own touches but we mostly let that vibe flow through our wedding.”

Sock Puppet Wedding at Brooklyn Winery: Lindsay & Jesse

BG Productions-Jesse and Lindsay-65-(ZF-4210-62864-1-085)

Married at Brooklyn Winery in New York, Lindsay and Jesse’s wedding was fun, colourful and a perfect reflection of them. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, but you’d never know that to look at these beautiful pictures. The bride wore a striped dress by Hayley Paige and many pairs of custom glasses! They had paper flowers instead of real ones and a Rice Krispy cake in lieu of anything traditional.

“We decided to just do what we wanted”, began the bride. “We planned the wedding by ourselves with minimal input from friends and family. Any time we began to question our choices, we had to remind ourselves that we were doing it our way, regardless of expectations. We were largely inspired by one of our favorite artists out of Brooklyn, Marty Allen. Marty specializes in large format sock-puppet photography; his work has been a staple of our relationship, as each year we buy a new print from him at the Union Square holiday market. Our apartment is furnished with his colorful-imagination-turned-beautiful-art. We commissioned sock puppets of ourselves for the wedding, which were integral to the décor, featured prominently in our invitations, and proved to be a hit at the photo booth.”

Colourful Brooklyn Backyard Wedding: Lauren & Erik

FreshBrooklynBackyardWedding_HeatherPhelpsLipton-66a

I’ve featured a lot of colourful brides in various coloured dresses in my time, but I think Lauren might be the brightest! I mean any bride with the kahoonas to rock a multi-coloured Betsey Johnson dress with a homemade bright blue veil is a-OK in my book!

This day was the epitome of a low-key backyard wedding. It took place in their own garden, in their Brooklyn home and the bride’s mother officiated the ceremony. Once the formal part of the day was done the atmosphere quickly switched into party mode! Sparkling rose and beer were served, a band consisting of friends of the couple played, and 6-foot sandwiches from Defonte’s Sandwich Shop were devoured!

“We wanted our wedding to be comfortable and true to our personalities”, Lauren began, “a real celebration of Erik and Lauren. I think the way it all came together was kind of patchwork. It took a village to build something so strong. Erik and I are so different from each other in so many ways that a traditional white classical wedding just isn’t our kind of union. It needed to be odd and surprising, happy, romantic and a little ridiculous to reflect our relationship.”

Elegant and Quirky Brooklyn Winery Wedding: Jaime & Marty

JaimeMartyWed_PhotoPhilosophies - 082

When it came to planning their New York wedding, Jamie and Marty didn’t really know what they wanted. It wasn’t until they found their winery venue that it all fell into place. The rustic yet urban space completely set the tone of the day.

“We didn’t do anything that was intentionally unique, quirky or alternative,” Jamie explained. ” we just knew we wanted our wedding to reflect us. By doing that, the rest just naturally fell into place. We found the Brooklyn Winery, it was the first and only venue we looked at, and when we saw it we just knew!”
