Taylor Swift Meets Gothic Summer Wedding

I Love You Thirteen

Ruby and Rebecca’s wedding was a perfect collision of dark romance and pop-star sparkle. They tied the knot at their local town hall before heading to the Stock Exchange Bar in Haven, for a reception that felt equal parts gothic soirée and Taylor Swift fever dream. “We wanted to incorporate Ruby’s love of everything gothic and my love of Taylor Swift,” Rebecca said. “We kept the colours and theming dark but the welcome signs and mirrorballs everywhere were themed for Taylor.”

Instead of table numbers, guests found themselves seated at tables named after the couple’s favourite movies, and the bar served its Halloween cocktail menu in honour of their moody, seasonal vibe. “It was such a fun way to bring everything we love together,” said Ruby.

Much of the décor was made by Ruby’s mum, June, and stepdad, Alan. The pair crafted handmade pieces that set the tone for the night, from intricate details to bold focal points. “They did an incredible job and everything looked amazing on the day,” the couple continued. The cake table became a standout, layered with accessories and personal trinkets, while their custom Til Death Do Us Party neon sign from Bag and Bones was a real focal point.

They used a shared email address for RSVPs instead of printed cards, and created their own disco playlist. Even the catering followed the laid back vibes – a relaxed buffet followed by pizzas later in the night. “It saved a ton of money compared to a formal meal,” they explained.

The couple both wore bridesmaid dresses rather than traditional bridal gowns. Rebecca found hers at Maya Deluxe and Ruby chose one from Needle & Thread. The choice perfectly matched their alternative approach. “Two women can get married both in dresses,” they laughed “The amount of people asking which one was wearing a suit was comical!”

If money were no object, they say they’d have added even more food and drink options, maybe even a free bar. But they have no regrets about how it all came together. “Invite who you want and do what you want,” concluded the couple. “Not everyone will be happy with your choices, but it’s your day and it really doesn’t matter. Also, Don’t fall out! Listen to each other and just enjoy your day the way you want it.”
