Daisy and Robert wanted their wedding to feel like a modern interpretation of 1970s disco. Vintage concertina Christmas decorations sparked the original idea, becoming the starting point for a design scheme and the inspiration behind the ceiling streamers. They were married in November and while many Autumn/ Winter weddings lean into darker colours, Daisy and Robert pushed in the opposite direction. The couple, who had gotten engaged in Sorrento, wanted to bring little elements of that into the wedding too. So, they opted for an Italian menu.

“We wanted a modern take on 1970s disco, combining retro influences with contemporary styling”, Daisy said. “Vintage Christmas decorations were my main source of inspiration, but we reimagined them in a way that felt fresh, modern, and very ‘us’. Since we both love the 1960s and 70s, this felt like the perfect way to capture our personal style and vision.”
After the ceremony at their local church, two 1950s coaches transported guests across Birmingham to the reception venue, The Old Library in Digbeth. They chose it because it was a true blank canvas which they could put their own stamp on.

In the run up, their evenings were spent tying ribbons onto disco balls and creating countless personal details. Daisy, who worked as a graphic designer before becoming an art teacher, designed the stationery, signage, labels, stickers, beer mats and table décor herself. Etsy and Vinted helped source many of the finishing touches. The ceiling streamers from Boomting Bunting were one of the biggest costs of the day, but they really transformed the space.

Daisy loved wedding planning. Their engagement in July 2023 gave them more than two years to organise everything at a comfortable pace and secure suppliers who aligned with their style. “Our advice would be to not to underestimate how quickly popular suppliers get booked up”, she said. “So don’t delay booking your favourites, especially if you have a specific vision in mind.”

Looking back, there is only one thing Daisy wishes they had included: a videographer. “The day goes by so quickly, and I would love to be able to sit down and relive all those special moments again”, she admitted.
Even without that footage, the day is full of so many wonderful memories. “It’s hard to choose just one favourite moment because we loved every second of it”, Daisy concluded. “The band were incredible, and as soon as they started playing, the atmosphere completely lifted and everyone had such a great time. All the formality, stress, and nerves just disappeared, and it turned into the most amazing celebration.”
