If there’s one thing Rock n Roll Bride magazine will always champion, it’s the permission and freedom to be yourself on your wedding. So, an issue dedicated to freedom felt like a beautiful way to embody that.

Freedom shows up in different ways for different people. Sometimes it looks bold and visible. Sometimes it’s just in the small, personal choices that you make. It can mean setting boundaries, changing your mind, opting out of expectations, or simply remembering to trust your own taste and instincts. This issue is about all of that.

Putting this issue together began in Joshua Tree, where we rented an Airbnb and turned it into base camp for a few days. We stayed overnight with the team, sharing food, stories, and that wonderful mix of exhaustion and excitement that only happens when everyone is there for the same creative reason.

We shot around the grounds with a real couple, letting the landscape be our guide. The sky stayed stubbornly grey almost the entire time - apparently, we brought the weather with us from the UK! At first, we were a bit bummed out about it, but when the images came through it felt like kismet. The muted light and sombre skies actually complimented the vibe and colour palette of the shoot in a way we couldn’t have ever planned for. I love when that happens!

Elsewhere in the issue we’re exploring the idea of freedom from multiple angles. We look at the growing pressure to change yourself for your wedding and why opting out of that narrative can be a powerful act. We dig into freedom of expression and finding a wedding outfit that reflects who you are, not who you’re told to be. We also tackle freedom from expectation and emotional labour of dealing with family politics - specifically the dreaded RSVPs. If you’re starting to feel like a full-time feelings manager while organising your wedding, I hope this practical guide will really help!

But as always, this issue isn’t about telling you what your wedding should look like. It’s about reminding you that you’re allowed to decide what your wedding could be. Whether that means inviting fewer people, wearing something unexpected or running away to the desert, the freedom is yours.

So, thank you for picking up this magazine and supporting independent media. I’m so happy you found us.
