Some weddings are built like a scene from your favourite film – full of intention, style, and little details that mean everything. For Natasha and Josh, planning theirs was exactly that. Inspired by the surreal world of David Lynch, their intimate wedding took place at the iconic Hollywood Forever Cemetery – the perfect setting for a celebration on February 24th, Twin Peaks Day.

“Every time we visited LA, this would always be a place we’d go”, Natasha explained. “It’s even where we got engaged. We wanted to really highlight this place and for our décor to feel like it really ‘fit’ the environment. Our florals were the star of the show – the red and blue theme was directly inspired by Blue Velvet – the opening scene with the roses against the blue sky. I think that single shot really encapsulates David Lynch in general. We are also fans of vintage fashion – particularly the 1960s which is reflected in our wardrobe.

Natasha walked down the aisle with her best friend to My Prayer by The Platters, a nod to Twin Peaks. Their ceremony featured a handfasting and a tarot card ritual. They each pulled a card for their relationship. The final card was The Hierophant – literally the marriage card! “It really made everything feel even more magical. It felt so right”, Natasha said. They also created a post-ceremony playlist which played as they enjoyed champagne and took photos. “The first song that played as Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears, which made us feel like we were in a movie.”

While the wedding certainly had some traditional elements, it definitely wasn’t a very traditional day. They wanted the flow of the day to feel relaxed – a simple ceremony followed by tacos, cake and cocktails at a local brewery. Originally they thought about eloping, but in the end decided they really did want some of their loved ones with them to witness and celebrate.

Their photographers, The Hendrys, were the biggest investment – and the first vendor they booked. “We loved their storytelling style. It was the one part we weren’t willing to compromise on.”
And even though the event was small, they also worked with a wedding planner, Opus Events Co. “Belinda was a lifesaver when things got overwhelming. I knew exactly what I wanted but didn’t know how to make it happen. She helped bring our ideas into fruition and ensured we could just enjoy the day.”

“Having a tiny wedding really gave us more flexibility since everyone was clear on expectations”, the bride explained. “Our reception was held at one of our favourite breweries, which was used as a filming location for Lost Highway – another ode to David Lynch. We had drinks, cake and tacos from Chicas Tacos, the taco stand inside of the brewery. While we didn’t have a big entrance or first dance, that didn’t matter. We wanted to feel like we were just hanging out with our friends and just so happened to be celebrating one of the most important days of our lives.”

Looking back, Natasha says the best thing they did was trust themselves, even when others didn’t get it. “You’ll get a lot of well-meaning opinions, especially with a non-traditional wedding”, she concluded. “People project their idea of what a wedding should be. It’s easy to second-guess yourself. But if you stay true to your values, your day will feel like yours – and that’s what really matters.”
