Dean and Helen wanted to focus on the details of their outdoor, camp site wedding. They put their hearts and souls into hand crafting (with the help of friends and family!) a wedding day that really reflected them and everything they love.

“We have been a couple for so long that we wanted our wedding to reflect us”, said the bride, “but we didn’t really have a theme as such. We both wanted an outside venue that people could stop over as there is nothing more disappointing at a wedding when your just getting started and the music gets shut off and everyone goes home. We only looked at one venue and as soon as we found Woodland Tipis and Yurts we fell in love. It wasn’t a wedding venue, but it was exactly what we wanted so we went for it.”

“Most of the decorations were handmade by us or family members”, she continued. “We didn’t want a bunch of things that were bought from a shop that had no meaning behind them. Luckily for us, we have an amazingly talented family and everyone got involved in making things. If anyone had an idea for the wedding we let them go with it and it paid off. My aunt handmade the stunning chandelier that we got married under.”

“I also handmade my bouquet out of brooches, and made the bridesmaid bouquets and groomsmen’s buttonholes our of my favourite book, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Our wedding cake is us dressed as our favourite characters, Tanooki Mario and Totoro. For wedding favours we scoured the charity shops, vintage and antique fairs for glasses and mugs for each guest. We wanted everyone to have something that could take away and every time they got it out to use, they thought of us.”

“The best thing about out wedding was how the guests just went with it”, she concluded. “It wasn’t a ‘traditional’ wedding by any stretch of the imagination, but everyone could see the love and time we have spent making things and making it our own. Many of them have told us its the best wedding they have been to (including their own!)”
