A Quirky Alice in Wonderland Wedding: Nic & Ed

September 28, 2012

Nic & Ed chose Gaynes Park in Epping as the perfect spot for their June wedding. “It is the most amazing venue ever and their food is the highlight”, explained the bride, “In fact people are still raving about it now, it was better than any restaurant I’ve ever been to! It’s also a beautiful space, which didn’t need a lot doing to it which was perfect for us. I just put a few bits here and there to make it ‘ours’.”

“My inspiration came from my love of cakes and Alice in Wonderland. Ed was very happy to let me go off and try and put as much of ‘me’ into the wedding as I could. My aim was for people to know if was our wedding.”

“We made quite a bit ourselves including our table numbers which were numbers from hobbycraft which we decorated with glitter, fabric, sheets of music and pages from books. The table plan started life as a mirror. The name places were the hardest to make and took me nights and nights to get them all done. They were made from red foam, cut into a heart shape and decorated with red glitter. I used fimo to make a scroll and then painted people’s names onto them. I now see them in people’s houses when we go round!”

“We really weren’t worried about what people would think of the way we did things”, Jenny continued. “We had silly readings and came out of the ceremony to Beat Surrender by The Jam. Ed put his foot through my dress dancing down the aisle but we didn’t care as we had so much fun!”

The bride wore a custom made dress with a 1950s influence which was made by The Lace Mill. “My dress was a work of art!” she explained. “I’d looked at so many dresses and I wanted a quirky 50s look, but also didn’t want to miss out of that princess felling of having a massive white dress – I mean there’s not many other occasions you can rock that look – so I had both! I couldn’t believe how amazingly it came out. It was made up of a short 50s style dress with a petticoat, then on top of that we placed an exact replica but just longer which was then all held together with a sash!  After the meal I dropped the top dress and voila! A 50s quirky dress for dancing! Also as a surprise, my dressmaker from Susan, made me a cover up. It has a little peter pan collar and puffball sleeves. It was the cutest thing I’d ever seen!”

Fantastic! Thank you so much to Nic & Ed and their photographer Eliza Claire for sharing this fab wedding with us today.
