The South African weddings are ruling Rock n Roll Bride right now (did you see this incredible wedding I blogged earlier in the week?) and I get very over-excited when I receive submissions for weddings as cool as Jen & Andrew’s. Their rockabilly-inspired wedding took place at Olympus Stream, Pretoria, South Africa.

“Andy is the upright bass player and vocalist for one of the few Rockabilly bands in South Africa called Reverend Wright and the Mystery Train Gamblers,” Jen explained. ”We pretty much live, breathe and eat rockabilly even though it is still so small in this country. We just wanted to be ourselves without having a boring and stiff wedding day. Andy designed all the menu/name tags/invites etc, we stuck to an old school tattoo theme for that, and everything else we just stuck to what I liked, and what shouted Andy & Jen.”

Martin Rocka played, who are actually a Psychobilly band from Johannesburg, SA, they are my fave band, so it really helped with the vibe. We also had a jukebox, and Dj Ipod, which we loaded with all our favourite songs. We also had the ever so popular Candy Bar, which was such a great hit, we had to chase people away from it so that we could do our first dance.”

Methinks you all loved London Bride’s ‘The List’ two weeks ago so I asked the lovely blogger & wedding stylist to do us another one – this time, one of my favourite wedding themes, Retro Rockabilly.

As always, let us know what you think in the comments and feel free to make suggestions for the next wedding theme for her to tackle.

Enjoy!

You’ve got to see Kassie & James’ killer Roadhouse Relics (Texas) engagement shoot! The vintage, western, neon retro decor and 50′s rockabilly vibe proved to be the perfect location for such an awesome couple. The store, which specialises in neon signs allowed the couple an hour to come in and get some fabulous photographs.

“They have a area in the back set up with some of their old signs and other marquees that they have bought from businesses that went out of business” photographer Jessica told me. ”The couple are caterers her in town and they are AWESOME! www.cateringwithatwist.comis their site. They definitely have that cool rockabilly tattooed awesomeness on a day to day basis so this shoot was totally an extension of their personality. They were the ones that wanted to park his sweet ride in the middle of Congress Ave. Which is one of the busiest tourist streets in Austin so I was a little nervous that someone would hit their car. But it came out AMAZING! Also James loves big trees so we found some awesome trees with tons of knots in them. It was soooo hot that day that we stuck to a few places but I really think it turned out to be awesome!”

Music, tattoos and 40′s/50′s rockabilly provided the inspiration for Laura & Scott’s gorgeous wedding. Laura looked every bit the rockabilly queen in her Avalon from Dolly Couture skirt and top, teamed with lace gloves from ASOS and leopard print shoes from Mary Jane Shoes which were a bargain at just £15!

The tables were named after all their favourite rock bands – Kiss, Whitesnake, Guns n Roses, Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Van Halen and the top table was The Ronnie James Dio table. For a really personal and fun touch their favours were mini cupcake lip glosses for the girls and polystyrene gliders for the boys. They also had dishes of haribo rings and hearts on each table (yum!)

The couple diy’ed all their stationary - in a vintage tattoo style. The boy’s place names had flaming dice and the girl’s had pink nautical stars. They made the table planner with a big piece of MDF covered in a tattoo print fabric from Etsy. They had friend make the cake in the same tattoo theme.

“I walked down the aisle to Tom Petty – Here Comes My Girl. We signed register to Kiss – I Want You and Stevie Wonder – Signed, Sealed, Delivered and we both walked out to Gonna Fly Now from Rocky. First dance was Pulp – Something Changed, closely followed by Kiss – Lovegun” Laura concluded. “We’re both huge classic rock fans and I’ve always been a fan of 40′s/50′s style. We’re both geeks at heart. I’m not against any traditional weddings but we knew it wasn’t for us. We both thought our wedding day should be about our love for each other and that love includes all the things that make us who we are.”

Finally, Laura and her bridesmaids performed ”Kiss – I Was Made For Loving You” – a dance routine that they had perfectedon the hen do (bachelorette party) Be sure to check out the video after the ‘jump’

Ooh what a lovely sparkly rockabilly wedding! Lucia & Pete got married at Arundel Town Hall, West Sussex which was followed by an outdoorsy reception at the bride’s sisters camp site – Billycan Camping, Arundel - which specialises in bringing back traditional camping, with bell tents, safari lounge tents and Teepees! “We wanted to create a family orientated wedding” Lucia told me. It was held in my hometown, my Mum did our photos, my Dad made the rings, my Mother in law made the cake and the whole thing was held at my sisters campsite. Fun, laughter and a relaxed environment was important to us. We’d been to so many weddings where we felt on edge (due to not knowing everyone) and we didn’t want that from ours. It was a buffet lunch that was solely Vegetarian and the tables were decorated with gold sweetie bags with fake tattoos beside them- these were red hearts with a scroll across- reading “Pete & Lucia” something that went down amazingly well with the children.”
