Night

Modern Film Noir

Kat

June 3, 2010

Christy & Daryl's engagement session has such a dramatic and cinematic feel that I couldn't help but fall in love with it. As well as my crazy obsession with all things wedding and photography, I have a bit of a penchant for the over-dramatic, in particular the film noir style, and this session reflects that to a 't'...yet with fabulous a modern twist! Those shadows are like nothing I've ever seen! "We set off one night with my good friend (and amazingly talented photographer) Edison Miclat, to find a nitty gritty location" Christy told me. "A factory / industrial park by the rail road tracks made a perfect back drop for our photo adventure. The night started with us creeping around an ivy covered building, and ended with dancing in a stinky ole meat delivery truck! The shoot was hilarious and so much fun. I've always loved Edison's mellow demeanor and his ability to produce cinematic, natural images. I am absolutely in love with the results."

Celebrate in Style

I have rather a loving relationship with all the regular contributors to Rock n Roll Bride. After all, they are the ones keeping me going and sending me wonderful and inspiring content to share with you all. So when Jeremy Lawson told me that his love for me continued to grow...well I could hardly say no to featuring Melissa and Howell's fabulously chic wedding could I? (ps emails like this really make me smile so thank you thank you thank you!)

Vintage Vegas

Kat

I've never been to Vegas and I'm not all together convinced I'd like the craziness, but when I see images like these I know it can't be just one big city of sin. According to photographer Maria Mack, Las Vegas doesn't have to be all bright lights, strippers, gambling and bachelor parties. These beautiful, retro shots show Vegas in a much softer light, - one with cute heart signs and quirky vintage touches. Oh yes, this is a Vegas I could get on board with... Thanks to Maria for showing me the diversity of a Las Vegas photo shoot!

Magical Meghan

Yep, Meghan's trash the dress/bridal shoot pretty much rocks. She actually had the session over a year after she married JP because she really wanted to do something a bit more 'outthere' in her dress (which is gorgeous by the way and made by Demetrios.) Her natural skills and comfort in front of the camera combined with her glorious wedding dress and awesome personality made for one of the most enjoyable shoots I’ve ever done. We started out in downtown SD on the prowl for some graffiti, we lucked out when we found an old parking lot with a sweet car and bright graffiti. She was willing to try whatever we suggested with a smile on her face the entire time (like hold a sign on the side of the freeway…..Meghan, did I mention I love you? It’s true). After downtown, we went to Ruby’s Diner where her and JP had their first date…..I remember walking through the mall where everyone was staring at us, and I ask Meghan, “do you feel uncomfortable with all these people staring and pointing?” her answer? “I LOVE IT!” Which made me love her. After Ruby’s we headed to our house for some night shots, where Meghan displayed her magical powers (check out the last picture and you’ll totally understand). Meghan and JP, we had such a great time with you and I can’t wait until we hang out again very soon. In the meantime, I’ll be watching for you on America’s Next Top Model!!!!! Rock On – The Engagements

Kat

July 24, 2009

I was forwarded Danielle & Jerry's wedding by the lovely Amanda of Vintage Glam. I saw it and I loved it. I also discovered their rocking engagement session so I had to feature these first. Danielle's cute little hair bow, their awesome tattoos (do I sound like a broken record sometimes?) and the almost spooky fun fair location - I love it all. Stand by for the wedding, complete with a Groomsman with a mohawk and a Bride in a black wedding dress.
