Cynthia and Michael, who were married on Halloween in Vegas, may go down in history as having one of the most punk rock, unique weddings we’ve ever seen. The clown makeup was Cynthia’s idea – why? Well honesty, why not?

“We both wanted to get married on Halloween, dress up and have fun”, they told us “Michael always wanted to get married by an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas, the ideas go together like peanut butter and chocolate. Mostly the inspiration was just to make the whole affair easy. We don’t take ourselves to seriously, it’s only life after all.”

The couple headed to the legendary Sure Thing Chapel with a small group of friends and family, every single one of them dressed as clowns (except for two who were mimes!) Lady Elvis was there waiting to marry them.

Initially this was planned as an elopement so they didn’t invite any guests. But, after a while, they said anyone who wanted to come along would be welcome. “It was less of a ‘we don’t want any one there’ and more of ‘ if you’re in Vegas on this day at this time, we’re getting married, show up or don’t’. Really, there wasn’t a whole lot of rules to the affair. The wedding was a great excuse for a vacation and sightseeing – sort of a wedding and honeymoon all in one. We skipped the vows and the first dance, and opted for bubbles instead of the rice or confetti throwing.”

Afterwards, everyone went for dinner together. There wasn’t a formal reception, they hadn’t even booked a table anywhere! “We hate how long and boring weddings can be. We just didn’t want anything with a rigid format, it’s exhausting. The only hard and fast rule we had was no-one was allowed to spend over $300 on their outfit. Michael’s suit was $250 any Cynthia’s dress was maybe $50″

For couples considering a non-traditional wedding, their advice is straightforward: stop waiting for permission. “You can just get up and do it!” they concluded. “And it is cliché but marry your homie. We have both had been is some questionable relationships before we met and we know that we were what we were looking for. We have never really fought in the four years together. We support one another’s dreams and we knew what we didn’t want so that made it easy to know.”
