Lucy and Mark leaned into a loose Viking influence for their barn wedding. They wanted the day to be chilled but also a little bit of them.
“We kept true to ourselves”, Lucy told us. “We made sure we hired a DJ who would play the music we wanted – heavy metal and country music. There wasn’t a cha cha slide in sight. We didn’t have ourselves announced at the reception, we just entered with our guests after spending time at our home made cigar bar outside.”

Their guest list stayed small, with only 40 people present for the ceremony. The soundtrack began before Lucy even stepped into view, with Slipknot, Billy Idol, and Sleep Token setting the tone. Lucy walked down the aisle to Even in Arcadia by Sleep Token. “We were both incredibly nervous until the officiant told us we could hold hands”, she continued. “We both relaxed at that point. Our vows were not ‘traditional’ in the slightest and we mentioned our quirks (like how Mark always ensures the TV volume is on an even number otherwise I can’t think about anything else!) there was a lot of humour rather than seriousness.”

Lucy created centrepieces, favours, the table plan, and floral arrangements herself. The process felt natural to her. “I LOVED making most of the decorations for the room. I made the centrepieces after having a vision of how I wanted them, the favours, the table plan and flower arrangements. I thrive doing DIY projects like that.” Support from her bridesmaid, who works for Sweet Pea and Ivy, helped expand those ideas further, with additional decorations provided as a gift.

“Being neurodivergent, I can get very overwhelmed very quickly”, she continued. “Luckily I had my very supportive friends to help me. They kept me in check and helped with a lot of the planning on the day too.”
Looking back, Lucy holds one truth above everything else. “One thing I wish people realised when planning a wedding is that you need to make it authentic and keep to what you like. Our wedding wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay. Our guests came for us. They know us. They wasn’t going to be expecting anything else. Don’t try and please everyone else. If you have a cool idea, run with it.”
