We bet you’ve never seen a wedding quite like this one! The couple – and all their guests – dressed the part and they got married on an actual pirate ship docked near London Bridge. Tracy and Dave live on a narrowboat and decided to push their nautical life to its most playful extreme for their wedding. The Golden Age of Piracy gave them everything they needed as inspiration.

Every guest carried a wooden sword which they’d handed out as a favour. The bridal party were appointed titles like ‘Hag of Honour’ and a ‘Pirate Quartermaster’. “Breaking tradition of a white wedding and dressing in 18th century Pirate garb was a conscious choice”, Tracy explained. “We’d both been married before and done the traditional thing, so something completely different seemed the best decision.”

Tracy walked down the aisle to Skull and Bones by Home Free with her Hag of Honour beside her. As they approached Dave, they scattered chocolate coins across the crowd. Dave presented Tracy with her grandmother’s ring. “Our vows were traditional vows which was one traditional thing we did want to stick with”, she continued. “We left the ceremony to He’s a Pirate better known as the Pirates of the Carribean theme. We then signed the register in the presence of my daughters in the captain’s cabin.”

The reception, of course, was on theme too. Guests belted out sea shanties on the gun deck between the ceremony and the evening party. They had a treasure hunt which sent everyone searching for tiny ducks hidden around the ship – it was a huge hit! The dance floor opened with the bridal party walking in to Prince Charming by Adam and the Ants.

“It is your day, do what you enjoy. Friends and family will love it.” they advise. “Don’t be led by what others think you ‘should’ do. And if you are doing a theme, getting the details right is important. Personalised notes to guests, wine bottle tables and personalised napkins were a few little details that guests really appreciated.”
